Epilogue

Leila

A warm summer breeze filters through the open windows, gently ruffling the sheer curtains and carrying with it the scent of blooming jasmine from the garden.

The house feels alive today, filled with the sound of laughter, chatter, and the soft coos of my newborn nestled safely in Henry’s arms. It’s a day of simple joy, a snapshot of the life I once thought was beyond my reach.

The soft hum of contentment settles deep in my chest, and I can’t help but smile, a sense of peace settling over me as I take it all in.

Ryan, Henry, and Luke sit together, talking easily, and their bond is a testament to the profound life we share.

Our little one, barely a few months old, has each of them wrapped around her tiny fingers.

Henry cradles her now, his face alight with the soft glow of fatherhood.

I love watching him with her, love how gentle he becomes when she’s in his arms, and the way he talks to her in soft murmurs as if she understands every word.

Ryan’s hand rests on Henry’s shoulder, and Luke leans back in his chair, looking at them both with a satisfied smile that mirrors my own.

This is my family unit. My heart swells with a love so vast it’s almost overwhelming.

Across the room, my father sits comfortably with a glass of wine in his hand, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he listens to my sister Cassie recounts some story that has her in fits of laughter.

Danae, my best friend, sits beside them, her presence grounding and familiar.

Her hair falls over her face as she laughs, but there’s an anxious undercurrent to her smile today.

I’ve known her long enough to sense when something’s off, but I decide to give her time.

Danae never holds back when she has something on her mind.

I stand from my seat, stretching my legs and making my way over to my father.

His eyes flick to me as I approach, and he grins wide, the lines of age softening his face in a way I never noticed before.

I sit beside him, resting my hand on the arm of his chair, and he leans down, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.

“Everything alright, darling?” he asks in his deep, familiar voice.

I nod, my chest tightening with a sudden rush of pleasant emotion.

We sit in silence for a moment, listening to Cassie and Danae’s conversation. They’re talking about how my little one has Henry’s eyes, and their words stir a warm, happy feeling inside me.

“Leila,” my father says suddenly, breaking the silence. His voice carries a hint of hesitation. I look up at him, curious. He clears his throat, setting down his glass before continuing. “I wanted to tell you something. Something I think you should hear from me before anyone else.”

I raise an eyebrow, waiting for him to go on. My father has always been the type to speak his mind, so the fact that he’s hesitating now makes my heart race with anticipation. He leans forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees.

“I’m going to be a father again,” he says, the words slow and deliberate, as if gauging my reaction.

It takes me a second to process what he’s said.

His words hang in the air between us, and for a moment, time seems to stretch.

My father... having another child? I know he said he wanted one, a new heir after my marriage was finalized, but hearing it now spurs something within me.

My mind wanders to Cassie’s mother, his new wife. She’s pregnant?

I blink, the initial shock giving way to a surprising warmth that spreads through my chest. I’d expected.

.. I’m not sure what I expected. Maybe the old sting of abandonment, the familiar resentment that used to bubble up whenever my father made decisions without considering me. But instead, I find myself smiling.

“Wow,” I breathe, the smile widening across my face. “Dad, that’s... that’s wonderful. I’m happy for you.”

His eyes widen, and for a second, he looks genuinely surprised, as if he hadn’t been sure how I’d react. He releases a breath I didn’t even realize he was holding and laughs softly.

“You are?” he asks, his voice a little lighter now. “You’re really okay with this?”

I nod, my smile unwavering. “Yes. I mean... why wouldn’t I be? You deserve happiness, Dad. And... I think I’m past the point of feeling like you owe me anything.” I pause, swallowing the lump that forms in my throat. “I know you love me. I don’t need you to prove it anymore.”

There’s a flicker of something in his eyes…relief, perhaps, or maybe even pride. He leans down, pulling me into a tight hug, and for the first time in what feels like forever, I feel that old, familiar connection between us.

“Thank you, Leila,” he whispers into my hair. “I didn’t know how to tell you, but I’m glad you’re happy for me.”

We pull away, and my eyes meet Cassie’s. She offers me a warm smile, having heard the conversation with Dad. It’s clear she already knew about the baby. I smile back, a quiet sense of contentment and peace washing over me.

I rise to my feet and make my way toward my mates, my heart lighter than it’s been in years. As I sit back down beside Ryan, he wraps an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. Our daughter stirs in Henry’s arms, and Luke leans over to coo at her, his soft words making her giggle.

This is my life now. My family. And for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Danae moves beside me, drawing my attention. I can tell something’s on her mind. She’s been quiet all afternoon, her usual sharp wit subdued. I nudge her gently with my elbow, raising an eyebrow in question.

“You, okay?” I ask softly.

She hesitates for a moment, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress in her lap. Then, with a sigh, she leans closer, lowering her voice so only I can hear.

“I need to tell you something,” she says, her tone anxious. “My family has started marriage talks on my behalf.”

I blink, taken aback by the sudden revelation. “Seriously?” I repeat. “With whom?”

Her expression tightens with nerves, and she looks around the room as if worried someone might overhear. “He’s not from here. He’s supposedly the strongest Alpha in his country.”

My eyebrows shoot up at that. “Danae, that’s incredible. Why do you look so worried?”

She sighs, her shoulders slumping. “Because I don’t understand why someone like him would be interested in me. I mean... I’m a recessive Omega, and I’ve never exactly got lots of attention before. I don’t know…”

I reach out, taking her hand in mine and squeezing gently.

“Danae, don’t talk like that. You’re an amazing woman, strong, intelligent, and beautiful.

Any man would be lucky to have you. This guy isn’t marrying you because of some obligation.

He’s marrying you because you’re worthy of him. You’re worthy of love.”

Her eyes soften, and she looks at me with a vulnerability I rarely see from her. “You really think so?”

“I know so,” I say firmly. “You’re not just some random woman from a good family. You’re Danae. You’re my best friend. And if this man doesn’t see how incredible you are, then he doesn’t deserve you.”

A soft smile tugs at her lips, and she lets out a small, relieved laugh. “You always know how to make me feel better.”

I grin, nudging her shoulder playfully. “That’s what I’m here for.”

The tension eases from her posture, and for the first time today, I see the spark of hope in her eyes. She’s nervous, yes, but I can tell she’s starting to believe in herself again. And that’s all I want for her, to see herself the way I see her.

The rest of the afternoon passes in a blur of warmth and laughter.

We eat together, talk together, and for a while, it feels like the world outside doesn’t exist. It’s just us, my family, my friends, and the life we’ve built together.

My father leaves later in the evening, pulling me into one last hug before he goes.

There’s a sense of closure between us now, a healing that I never thought possible.

As the sun sets and the house begins to quiet down, I find myself sitting by the window, cradling my daughter in my arms. The soft glow of the evening light bathes the room in a golden hue, and I watch as my mates settle in for the night, their voices low and content.

I feel a deep, abiding sense of gratitude for the life we’ve created together.

This is my happy ending. And it’s even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
