Violet #2

When I proved Logan was right. Even if I’d successfully gotten pregnant, I was still broken. I was still useless. I was still nothing.

Vinny’s expression shifted as he watched me retreat inward. The fire in his eyes banked, replaced by something quieter

He eased back an inch. Not leaving. Just giving me space I wasn’t sure I deserved.

“Hey,” he said, voice softer. “What’s wrong?”

My head violently whipped side to side as if that alone could unruin the moment I’d just shattered.

I curled inward, shoulders rounding, hands coming up like they could shield my ribs from being seen through.

Nothing, I signed, I’m fine.

The motions looked sloppy, and while I was most definately not fine, I assumed it would pass, we would fuck, and everything would be fine.

Then, Benji shifted away from me without saying a word.

No. No. No.

I could be useful. I could be sexy. We could all fuck and then go about our day.

Without thinking, I reached for Benji, fingers catching the edge of his wrist before he could fully pull back. My hands were clumsy, frantic.

Wait. Please. I can– My signs all tangled together.

I could be useful. I could be wanted. I could make this smooth again if I just tried harder.

Benji didn’t look annoyed. That somehow made it worse.

He turned fully to face me, golden brows knitting together, and gently peeled my fingers from his arm.

“Hey,” he said softly. “No.”

Vinny shifted then moving from looming heat to solid presence at my back. He didn’t touch me right away. Just stayed close enough that I could feel him there.

“You don’t have to earn anything here, Violet. I thought after a month and a half, you’d know that.” Vinny said. “You don’t owe us sex, or obedience, you don’t even owe me a mark.”

My throat tightened painfully.

Benji nodded.

“We just want you happy and safe.” Benji stopped speaking for just a moment. “Letting Vinny mark you is the safest way to do that.”

The look Vinny shot him made me squirm.

“No. She doesn’t want marked, I don’t mark. That’s final,” he growled.

I shook my head hard, tears burning behind my eyes.

That’s not how it works, I signed, hands trembling.

Vinny exhaled, long and controlled, like he was forcing himself to stay calm for me.

“If I ever find out where the fuck you came from before Serena hit you with her car–” Vinny paused, rubbing at the square of his jaw.

He didn’t need to finish. He was going to threaten to kill someone for me, and that should have made me feel safe. I wanted Logan dead, Gods knew how badly I’d wanted that. But I didn’t want a violent alpha.

I didn’t need someone to kill for me. I needed someone to be kind for me.

Vinny opened his palm, leaving it on the mattress by my face.

“You said no,” he continued. “You pulled back. That’s it. We stop. No punishment. No disappointment. No fucking mark.”

The words didn’t land all at once. They settled, one by one, heavy and unfamiliar.

My hand hovered just above his, before falling into his palm. Vinny’s fingers closed around mine, and it was then I realized just how shaky I was.

Benji shifted again. “Boss, you need to mark her.”

“And you need to get the fuck out of my room,” Vinny snarled.

Benji went still for half a second. Then he exhaled through his nose, and lifted his hands in surrender.

“Okay, boss,” he said, sliding off the bed.

On his way out the door, he grabbed his discarded jacket and apron and gave me one last glance. His eyes looked apologetic, but his expression was hard. He gave me a small nod as he left, closing the door behind him with a quiet click.

The room felt different without him, but I couldn’t place why.

Vinny didn’t move right away, instead he stared at me.

“With Benji gone, do you still want sex?” he asked. “Not for me, for you.”

I paused, actually having to mull the question over. My cunt dully throbbed with the disappointment of almost getting laid, and I assumed this was what blue balls felt like, so I nodded.

Vinny’s gaze dropped to our joined hands then he looked back up, and something shifted in his expression. It wasn’t heat, or possession, not exactly. Instead, it was closer to understanding.

“Lie back,” he said softly. “I’m gonna help you, but I’m not gonna fuck you.”

My brows lifted.

“You want to come, and I’m going to make it happen, it’s what alpha’s do.” He gave a crooked half-smile. “But, I’m not going to risk you backing out when my knot is stuck in your pussy.”

My brows lifted higher, but I didn’t argue.

Vinny eased lower on the bed like a man who knew exactly what he was doing and wasn’t about to rush the process.

His eyes never left mine, even as his hand slid along my thigh.

“Legs up, Little Lamb,” he ordered.

I paused, unsure how I felt about the nickname.

It felt diminutive, just like Logan’s Little Dove, but the way Vinny said it made me feel as if I were something to cherish, not devour. In a way, it made me feel chosen instead of trapped.

I met his gaze, heat simmering low in my belly. My thighs tensed beneath his palms.

“Problem?” he asked, “Do you not like the pet name?”

I thought about lying.

But instead, my legs slid up slowly, knees falling open, my dress sliding higher

I don’t know yet. Say it again. I signed.

Vinny’s grin turned wolfish.
