40. Femme Fatale
Femme Fatale
Kelya
Omegas don’t kill their alphas.
That one I know is true.
The pain is unbearable. It is relentless. He’s dead, and the vacuum created in his absence is enormous. It’s sucking all of us dry. Even Ash. Every bit of our aura and influence is rushing into the empty space that was Roman Livingston.
Once the torrent of expulsion is nearly over, it’s obvious which one of us is left with anything at all.
Hollis.
The man who supplied Roman with drugs to use on me. The man who used his alpha bark to make Noble assault me. Hollis has been waiting for this moment. Hollis is forgettable and useless. He’s background. So, why is our bond rewriting to make him pack lead?
It’s his influence. He’s got more than Noble.
Hollis laughs as he stands over Roman’s body and the distressed Noble. His arm is leaking blood from what can only be Tony’s doing. His attention goes to Ash, who is laying on the ground near the door.
Hollis releases his influence over the room, excited to be stretching it wider than ever before. I whimper, and everyone shudders.
The influence comes down on us like gravity, and I nearly fall. Tony bares his teeth at Hollis.
He laughs.
“Submit to me. I’m the new pack lead. My god this feels good! Submit, Omega! Get down on your knees and tell me you’re going to be a good omega.” That’s not going to happen. A rage is being stoked inside of me. “Now!” he shouts, his voice rattling the glasses on the bar top.
I will not submit to this alpha. Not now. Not ever.
“Hollis…” Noble whimpers. “Roman just died…”
“I know! It’s about time someone with a big enough cock took over this pack.”
The gun burns my hand. The recoil had strained my wrist, and it aches already. I lift the gun to point directly at Hollis, knowing a round is in the chamber, just like Tony taught me, and squeeze the trigger, which isn’t easy.
“Kelya! No!” Tony slams my arm down, causing me to miss my mark.
I scream at him and try again. Tony grabs my wrist as a third shot rings out. Hollis’s arms are out wide, and his eyes aren’t blinking. He’s wide open!
I could have fucking gotten him!
Tony pulls my hands behind my back and holds me tight. I’m still gripping the gun.
A familiar hold. It stretches my muscles and bends the bones in the wrong way. He isn’t being gentle, and I’m not giving him a choice. He manages to dig his finger underneath my trigger finger so the gun won’t go off again.
“You motherfuckers! Do you know what happens when an omega kills their alpha!?” Tony screams at Hollis and Noble. “There’s a fucking reason they are notorious! If an omega kills her alpha, she doesn’t stop at one; SHE KILLS THEM ALL! She’s rejecting the bond, and she’ll take you all out!”
Noble slaps his hands over his mouth, and Hollis doesn’t believe him at all.
“She won’t stop until you’re all dead!”
He’s right. Omegas who kill their alphas finish the job entirely. They raze the earth. I always imagined it like berserk mode, but I’ve never had a clearer head. Too bad Tony has my arms pulled back. I struggle, and he brings us down, pushing my knees into the floor.
I bare my teeth at Hollis and Noble, and this time it isn’t an insult; it’s a fucking promise. I will not let these two men walk out of here alive. Weak and evil men do not deserve to continue on. I’ve decided their fate, and I have every right to do so.
Victims have this right.
“Let me go!” I scream. “They don’t deserve to live!”
Hollis’s disposition falters. He’s starting to get it. They can’t go on being bonded to me. Death is imminent.
Tony pushes me flat on the carpet and presses my cheek into the scratchy fibers. I open my eyes to see Ash on the ground, nearly in my same position, scared to death and looking at me.
Is he afraid of me?
Tony wrestles the gun out of my hand. I growl at his success.
I’m worried about Ash. His fear is greater than I would have imagined. I guess we don’t really know how we will act in an emergency. Ash looks over at Hollis, and that fear doubles. Oh. That’s who he is really afraid of.
Hollis.
Well, don’t worry, Ash. I’m going to kill him. Then I’m going to kill Noble. Because I will be damned if either of them has dominion over me.
“I can get her to stop with my bark. She has to listen to me. I’m her alpha,” Hollis says, full of big ideas.
“It won’t work. Your alpha bark won’t work on her,” Tony says through gritted teeth, trying to keep me still. It’s not working. I’m strong and determined.
He tries anyway.
“Kelya, be still!” My omega rejects the bark entirely. “Kelya, you will not try to kill me!”
I laugh. What a tool. He’s going to die.
“I’ll try,” Noble says. “Kelya, stop laughing!”
Nothing.
“As soon as she’s free, she’s coming after you. I can smell her intent, and if either of you were smart, you’d be able to feel it. She’s going to kill you both the first chance she gets.”
“What about Ash? He’s bonded to us, too,” Noble asks. He seems almost like he’s saying I’m being unfair.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so.”
“I’m not going to kill Ash. But I will end your life, Noble. I can do it with my bare hands if necessary.”
My words chill the room.
In the silence following, we hear far away sirens. Good. The police will come and take Tony off me, and then I can get my hands around one of their throats.
Tony has his knee in my back and leans down to whisper in my ear. “I can’t let you do this.”
“But they deserve it.”
“I know, Sweet Rosette.”
“Tony, please let me go. Let me finish this.”
“No,” he says reverently. It does more to me than any alpha bark ever has.
The sirens get louder.
Both of my arms are completely numb by this point, but the adrenaline is keeping the pain away. There’s a strange panting sound coming from the doorway.
“Are those fucking coyotes!?” Hollis shouts.
Ash scrambles away, leaving a body-sized stain of blood underneath him.
Tony reaches down for the gun, and I manage to get away.
He weighs his options and continues for the gun.
I take off after Hollis, ripping my shoulder out of place to get the tie off of my wrists.
I don’t care that I can’t feel my hands or that coyotes are rushing into the room.
I don’t care if the police are on their way.
That alpha is dead.
I launch myself at him, getting my hands on his throat.
He punches my ribs and falls back into the weakened glass from where the bullet shot through.
I won’t stop. I grip him tight. Anytime he breathes in, I squeeze tighter.
His eyes are just as they always have been, cold and unreadable.
Even as I bring him closer to unconsciousness, he doesn’t fear me.
The gun goes off. One. Two. Three shots.
Tony screams at the dogs.
Hollis goes down. My grip is unwavering. Noble decides not to be a coward for once in his life and attacks me from behind. He hits me over the head with something hard. It temporarily causes me to lose my grip, and Hollis throws me off him. I slam into the floor and roll twice until I stop.
My vision goes spotty, and I turn and spit blood. The force of hitting the floor knocked my arm back into its socket.
Fuck, he got me good. My head swims, and I can’t focus my eyes. I lose control of the horizon line.
Tony lifts me up over his shoulder and takes off running out into the hall.
I can barely fight him off. He rushes us outside and throws me in the back of a running SUV, taking his time to lock my wrists together with a pair of handcuffs.
He slams the hatch shut, jumps into the passenger seat, and we take off, passing the roaring sirens.
We left the two alphas alive. My only consolation is we left them with several coyotes, the likes of which I have no idea where they came from.
