SHORT STORIES 7 #3

"All right. Easels ready. Aria will model for us today. She is experienced enough to be here and new enough that I expect every one of you to treat her with respect. Look carefully. Draw honestly. No comments that would make your late wives slap you."

A low ripple of laughter moved through the room.

Aria stepped onto the platform.

For a moment she only stood there in the wrap dress under the bright practical lights. Ten faces watched her. Sam remained near the back wall, arms folded, trying and failing to look casual. Francis waited by the first easel.

Aria untied the dress.

The fabric opened and slid from her shoulders in one clean motion.

She caught it, folded it once, and set it on the chair behind her.

Then she was naked in front of all of them: breasts soft and full, nipples tightening in the cool air, stomach smooth, hips rounded, legs long, pussy bare and visible the instant she turned into the light.

No one spoke.

Pencils lifted. Chairs creaked. Someone exhaled hard through his nose as if he had forgotten how breathing worked.

"Standing pose first," Francis said gently. "Weight on your left leg, Aria. Chin slightly up. Hands relaxed at your sides."

She obeyed.

Being seen by two men had been intense. Being seen by twelve was something else entirely.

Eyes moved over her with different kinds of hunger and wonder: artistic, lonely, startled, grateful.

Aria felt all of it on her skin. Her nipples hardened further.

A flush spread across her chest. She kept her posture open and did not cover herself.

"Beautiful," one of the men murmured, almost to his paper.

"Draw," Francis reminded him, though there was warmth in it. "Do not just admire."

They worked for twenty minutes before the first break.

Aria changed to a seated pose, one thigh angled over the other, then later to a three-quarter turn that showed the line of her back and the full curve of her bottom.

Each shift made her newly aware of how completely available her body was to their attention.

When she parted her knees a little more than necessary for balance, she felt the air touch her openly and saw at least three pencils pause.

During the short water break she remained naked while the men stretched and refilled cups.

That, somehow, felt more intimate than the formal poses.

There was no artistic excuse left. She was simply a bare woman standing among dressed men, sipping water, answering when Harold asked if the platform lights were too hot.

"They are fine," she said. "I am more nervous than hot."

"You do not look nervous," Walter said. "You look like you belong up there."

Aria smiled. "That may be the kindest sentence anyone has said to me all year."

Sam brought her a second bottle of water and kept his eyes on her face with visible effort. "You all right?"

"Yes."

"You look..." He stopped, searched for a safer word, and failed. "You look like every man in this room is going to go home and remember this for the rest of his life."

"Including you?"

Sam met her eyes. "Especially me."

The second hour deepened everything.

Francis had her lie back on a draped bench with one arm above her head and one knee raised.

The pose opened her body completely. She knew exactly what they could see: the soft underside of her breasts, the plane of her stomach, the smooth lips of her pussy, the shadowed invitation between her thighs.

Shame flickered and then burned away into something hotter.

She held the pose and let them look. Charcoal whispered over paper. Someone swore quietly in pure awe.

Later Francis asked for a standing rear pose, hands on the back of the chair, feet apart. Aria bent just enough to present the round bare cheeks of her ass and the intimate seam beneath. She heard a pencil hit the floor and roll. No one laughed. The room had become too concentrated for laughter.

When the two hours ended, Francis did not immediately tell her to dress.

"Closing conversation," he said to the class. "Aria has agreed to stay as she is. Coffee, questions about the drawings, ordinary talk. That is the deal. You earned the privilege by staying present."

So Aria remained naked while ten older men showed her rough sketches of her own body.

It should have been humiliating. Instead it felt strangely tender.

One drawing made her breasts too heavy. Another caught the exact tilt of her hip.

Sam, who had not been drawing, still hovered close enough that she could feel the heat of him whenever she turned.

Harold cleared his throat. "I have not looked at a woman like this in twelve years. I forgot bodies could be kind."

Aria touched his sleeve lightly with her bare fingers. "Then I am glad I came."

By the time the last man left, the room felt larger and quieter. Paper still covered the easels. The air smelled of charcoal and coffee and warm skin. Francis locked the hallway door out of habit more than necessity. Sam stayed to help break down the extra stands.

Aria reached for her dress and then stopped.

"Do you need me to go?" she asked.

Francis shook his head. "Not if you do not want to."

Sam set an easel against the wall and turned. The look he gave her was raw now that the audience was gone. "If you put that dress back on too quickly, I might actually be sad."

Aria laughed, soft and shaky. Standing naked between them after the class felt different from posing. There was no platform ritual left, no artistic distance. Only three adults in a locked basement room and the thick leftover charge of being watched for hours.

"I keep thinking about last week," she said. "About how far I went and how much further I almost wanted to go."

Francis stepped closer, careful, giving her every chance to stop him with a word. "And now?"

"Now I do not want to stop at being looked at."

She saw the effect of that sentence move through both men. Sam's hands flexed at his sides. Francis's gaze dropped briefly to her breasts, her stomach, the bare soft place between her thighs, then returned to her eyes.

"You are married," Francis said quietly. "I need to hear the boundary."

"My husband knows what this class is," Aria said.

"He knows what it does to me. He told me that if anything more happened and I wanted it, truly wanted it, he did not want me to lie to myself out of old habit. No one is being betrayed in secret. No one here is related. No one is being forced. I am forty-two, clear-headed, and asking."

Sam let out a breath. "That is the hottest careful speech I have ever heard."

Aria reached for his work shirt and tugged him in first because his hunger was simpler, closer to the surface.

When she kissed him, he made a low broken sound and kissed her back like he had been holding himself on a leash for eight days.

His hands settled on her waist, then slid up to cup her bare breasts, thumbs brushing her nipples until her knees weakened.

Francis watched for a moment, not excluded so much as invited by patience.

When Aria turned her head and reached for him too, he came without hurry and kissed her with the slow confidence of a man who had wanted her for years and could still afford tenderness.

His palm traced down her spine and over the curve of her ass, squeezing once, appreciative and firm.

They moved her to the draped bench she had posed on.

The symbolism was not lost on any of them.

Aria lay back naked where charcoal eyes had studied her, and now real hands replaced distance.

Sam kissed down her throat and took one nipple into his mouth, sucking with open need.

Francis eased her thighs apart and looked at her openly before stroking her with two careful fingers, finding her already wet from hours of exposure and praise.

"Oh," Aria whispered. "Yes. Like that."

Francis circled her clit with maddening patience while Sam worked her breasts and kissed her mouth whenever she could catch breath.
