Chapter Nine

Amelie

Baxter

See? I only stalk victims.

Amelie

Sure, sure.

Baxter

I either have to kill her or fuck her.

Amelie

DO NOT KILL HER!!! That is a direct order!

Baxter

Sitting in a pool of her blood would be a turn on…with the added bonus of completely fucking with her grandmother.

Amelie

Then who would you fuck?

Baxter

The help.

“How are you friends with that guy?” Onyx’s sudden appearance makes me jump, and I almost drop my phone.

“Because he’s had my back since day one, and he’s actually a lot of fun.” I turn to face Onyx who’s still in his work out gear, his biceps glistening with sweat.

“Baxter Branson is not fun.”

“You’re just biased because you hate him. Let’s go, I need a shower before my date.”

“Get on, I’ll carry you.” Onyx squats down and I jump on his back, wrapping my arms loosely around his neck. Is it immature? Yes, it is. Do I give a fuck? No, I don’t. He’s more than proved that he’s fully recovered and that it’s only the fear in my mind that needs to heal now.

He piggybacks me all the way up to my room, kicking the door shut behind us. I slide down from his back and he sits on the chair by my desk. I strip down to my underwear, and his intense glare melts me to my core. I have to remind myself that I'm going out with Sawyer tonight.

“Stop looking at me like that, I have a date with your brother.”

“So? He won't mind.”

I rummage through my clothes trying to find something warm, yet sexy.

“You’re telling me that you wouldn't care if I had a date with you and came over smelling like Kalen? That it would be okay?”

“As long as you brush your teeth if he sticks his dick in your mouth.”

I turn to face him, mouth agape, and he just shrugs. I throw my sweaty crop top at him and laugh. Men are so alien. I don't know if I could deal with one of them smelling like another woman, let alone knowing they were having sex. I would kill a bitch with my new-found knife skills.

Onyx gets up from the chair and stalks towards me, placing his finger under my chin to make me look at him.

“Don’t worry, we wouldn’t even look at another girl, and we went into this knowing you’d be with our brothers. We’re okay with it. If Sawyer wasn't such a prude, we would all happily have a mass orgy with you.”

I cough and splutter at his words. “As in, all of you at once?” I have to squeeze my thighs together at the thought. Slate and Onyx at once was a given, they never kept that a secret. And there was Halloween when Kalen was sort of there too…but not like Onyx’s implying.

“You're wet just thinking about taking all of our cocks at once,” he taunts, running his hand down my stomach and into my underwear. I whimper when he rubs circles around my clit.

“You dirty girl. Can you picture me inside you and Slate balls deep in that tight ass, with Sawyer fucking your mouth and Kalen’s huge cock in your hand?”

“Mmmm,” I moan, as stars explode behind my eyes.

“Now you’d better go and shower.” He snickers, pulling away, leaving me bereft, and slapping my ass as I turn away in a huff. “And tell Sawyer he’s welcome.”

Onyx tells me Frost is outside and will wait until Sawyer arrives before he leaves, and then says goodbye so that I can get ready. I pout, wishing I had more time to play out the four on one fantasies in my head.

After my shower, I throw on a red floral print ruffle-hem belted dress.

I know what it’s called because that's what the tag said when it arrived in the post. Now that I’m somewhat acclimatizing to this place, or the weather just isn’t as freezing as it has been, Elsie keeps forcing me to buy some cute clothes.

I'm not one to normally wear girly stuff – that’s what happens when you’re raised around men – but I’m taking this opportunity to try new things.

I still pair it with some stockings and knee high boots though.

“I'm here to do your hair,” Elsie declares as she walks through the door without knocking, carrying a bag. She pulls out a blow dryer and hair straightener.

“Sit your cute ass down in the chair and let me work some magic.”

I do as she says and take a seat while she starts to blow dry my hair in sections. I have so much hair I never bother. It’s easier to pull it up into something that resembles a bun or just leave it out to dry and throw in some curl products to help keep it somewhat tame.

After what feels like hours, she switches the blow dryer to the hair straightener. I sigh. Who in their right mind has time for this shit?

By the time she’s done I have a few beach waves in my hair and it looks so silky. I love it. Not worth the trouble of doing it daily though. Elsie applies the bare minimum of makeup and keeps the look natural, finishing off with some tinted lip gloss.

“Voilà,” she announces, waving her hands in the air.

I stand, take a look in the mirror and smile. I look nice. When someone knocks on the door, Elsie skips over to answer it, letting Sawyer inside.

“Wow, you look beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

“You two love birds go and have fun while I sulk all night and eat a gallon of vegan ice cream.”

Sawyer smiles at her and I shake my head.

“Call him. He isn't working tonight. Clear the air and lay your cards out. Jasper needs to know where he stands.”

“I'll think about it,” she grumbles, grabbing her bag and heading out the door.

Sawyer comes closer and takes my hand, pulling me into his body.

“We should go. I have an amazing surprise for you.”

I look up at him, and he smiles. I love when Sawyer smiles because it’s with his entire face when it’s genuine. He has the nicest eyes.

“Can I have a hint?”

“Nope,” he says, booping me on the nose with his finger. Cute. Annoying.

We head down to his car, and he opens the door for me like a proper gentleman.

We talk about our week and how busy things are for me now, and I confess that I’ve been feeling like I’m neglecting him.

He assures me he has been just as busy as me, but it will all go back to normal eventually. Well, normal-ish.

The further we drive, the denser the forest appears. If it was anyone other than him, I would question his intentions and worry he was finding a nice place to dispose of my body after he kills me.

He pulls the car to the side of the road and gets out, coming around to my side and opening the door again. He offers me his hand.

“Are you sure we’re in the right place?” I ask dubiously, looking around into the pitch black.

“I’m sure.”

I take his proffered hand and Sawyer carefully leads me into the trees. I grip his hand tighter, almost sure this is where the shoe drops and I die here in the bloody cold where no one can find me.

Lights flickering up ahead catch my eye as we round a slight bend. I gasp at the sight before me. Tealight candles in mason jars line the dirt path.

“Wow,” I whisper.

We come to the end of the path and I’m lost for words…

fairy lights are strung up around the trees and a massive glamping tent sits underneath them.

Sawyer leads me to the tent and pulls the door open.

Warm air filters out, hitting me. I look around at the pink and white interior filled with fluffy blankets and throw pillows.

A large picnic basket sits to the side, and I smile.

“This is beautiful.”

“You like it?” he asks cautiously.

“I love it.”

He lets the door flaps fall closed behind us and helps me out of my jacket. I don’t wait for him, I make my way to the pile of pillows and flop down on them, rolling to my back to watch Sawyer move around the space.

“How did you manage to get all the candles set up?”

“Frost and the new guys.”

I snort at the thought of Frost having to set up something so romantic. I wonder how he had the time when he was watching over me before Sawyer picked me up. He must have sped all the way here.

Sam Hunt lightly plays in the background, and I’m quickly taken back to the first time we met. A giggle escapes me. I may have gatecrashed his pub date to fuck with Monty and Laura that night, but the attraction was instantly real. Oh how far we have come since then.

“What has that smile on your face?”

“I'm thinking about the first time we met.”

His lips pull up into a smile. “I’m still fond of the kitchen at Dad’s, when I was very conflicted about you being my student and my step-sister.”

When he pressed me against the door and squeezed my throat. Fuck. That was hot.

He comes to sit beside me, placing the basket down in front of us and pulling out different meats and cheeses.

“You do know I’m so sorry about you losing your job over me?” I say earnestly.

“I'm not. Honestly, I love teaching but I love you more. And I have a full plate with Order stuff. Plus, teenagers are annoying as hell.”

“I'm pretty sure that I’m still a teenager,” I say, batting my lashes at him, trying to distract myself from the way my stomach still twists with guilt despite his reassurances.

“Yes, but you're special. You only annoy me ten percent of the time.”

I laugh. “Only ten? I might need to work on that.”

“I'm sure Kalen can give you some pointers.”

We both laugh and dig into the amazing cheese platter he’s arranged. I don’t come from a family that serves fancy meats and cheeses. If I put this down in front of Smalls or Aadi they’d die of starvation. Sawyer pours us both a wine. The bottle looks expensive but wine just tastes like wine to me.

We end up lying back and talking about our week. I’m grateful for the one-on-one time. He asks how my training is going, and I tell him that the physical stuff is okay. I hadn’t realised there’d be a reading list.
