“Oh don’t be a spoilsport. We’ll just do one line and then we can fuck like minxes again.

You know they say it makes it feel even better, don’t you?

” she slinked over to him slowly and seductively swept the bag against her naked chest and breasts.

“Come on. I’ve always wanted to try it and I don’t trust myself with anyone else but you. I know you’ve done it before.”

“ Jesus, Liz, you’re killing me here,” he groaned.

“It turns me on just thinking about it. You all agitated and rough. It’ll be the fuck of the century,” Liz purred. Jonathan launched himself at her and pinned her under him, unable to contain himself any more. Liz squealed, then laughed up at him.

“You really want to do this?” he asked breathlessly holding down her hands by her head. Liz nodded eagerly, her eyes wide with excitement. He bent his head down and kissed her hard. “Okay babe, let’s do this.”

OVER THE WHOLE WEEKEND La Casa d’Italia had been packed out from the opening doors to when the kitchen closed.

The time flew past and before Dani realised, it was Sunday night.

Work and limited sleep were finally catching up on her and she was seriously thinking of blowing off going to Sky.

Her rational self knew she needed the rest. What with Kuch’s birthday tomorrow night, then New Year’s Eve mid-week, the next week was going to be just as busy.

She also needed to find time to pack her things for when she moved into the apartment on Friday morning.

But as Dani wiped down her last table she knew there was no way she’d miss an opportunity to see Jerome.

Saturday had been hectic and he’d been occupied in the main restaurant, as Peter had taken the lunchtime shift off.

On Sunday Jerome hadn’t come in at all, so he could spend all day with his family who’d been away, according to Gia.

And with the restaurant being closed on Monday it would be Tuesday before she’d get to see him again.

Peter locked up the front door and began turning off the main lights, leaving the bar lit while he gathered up his paperwork.

“Are you done?” he asked. There was only Augustino and Dani in the back restaurant finishing off.

“Yeah. I’ll just run down and get changed. Is that alright?”

“No problem. I’ve just got to cash up now so you’re good for fifteen minutes or so.”

Nicole and Rosa were already changed ready to meet Kuch who was no doubt pacing up and down in the car park.

“Oh, you both look lovely,” Dani gasped.

“Thanks,” Rosa and Nicole replied together.

“Come on, we’ll wait for you.” Nicole waved her hand in an attempt to hurry her along.

“No, don’t bother. I’ll be up in fifteen minutes tops. You go ahead, Kuch is probably waiting.”

“Okay, if you’re sure. We’ll see you there.” Then both of them exited the changing rooms and ran up the stairs.

Dani pulled out her bag from her locker and fished out her makeup bag.

Her bag lit up from the inside and she realised it was her phone.

Someone was ringing her, though she couldn’t hear anything as she’d switched it to silent.

Dani grabbed her phone and looked at the screen to see who was ringing her at almost midnight.

Jez’s face flashed across the screen and her heart lurched just at the sight of him.

Why was he calling her? He said he wouldn’t bother her.

All manner of horrible thoughts came to mind and she shook her head in an attempt to rid them.

Before she could answer, the phone stopped flashing indicating that he’d hung up.

Dani switch on the ringer and then put the phone back in her bag.

She’d call him tomorrow. Whatever he had to say could wait.

Within fifteen minutes Dani had quickly dressed and retouched her makeup and as she pulled up to the Ferretti House car park, the barrier opened.

She drove through, waved on by the car park attendant.

Perks of working for the owner, Dani thought to herself descending down two floors until she found a space.

She quickly checked herself in the mirror, then as she went to open the door her phone began to ring again.

Pulling it out again Dani scowled faced again with the smiling image of Jez.

Her instinct told her something had to be wrong.

Even when she’d first left him he hadn’t rung so persistently.

Taking a deep breath she swiped the screen to answer the call.

“Dani?” Jez croaked.

“Jez? What’s wrong? Are you alright?” From his voice Dani knew something wasn’t right.

“I am now. It’s good to hear your voice babe.” He sounded hoarse.

“You sound funny.” Dani felt a sudden wave of uneasiness.

“I’ve been in an accident.”

“An accident! What kind of accident? Are you alright?” Dani gripped her throat in panic. Her first thoughts were who was looking after him?

“Some fucker tail ended me and I hit my head. Just a few stitches and whiplash. They’re keeping me in until tomorrow, to check on my concussion.”

“Concussion? Jesus, Jez.” Dani moved her hand to her mouth.

“The car’s a mess.”

“Forget the car! What about you, where are you?”

“In the hospital. I just wanted to hear your voice. I’m restless and the painkillers are playing havoc with my head. I’m going to have a hell of a black eye and I’m sure I’ve a lump the size of an egg on my head. What time is it?” he sounded disorientated.

Dani pulled the phone from her ear to check. “It’s nearly half past twelve.”

“So you’ve just finished your shift?”

“Yes, I was just heading… I was on the way home.”

“It’s good to hear your voice, Dani.”

“Shouldn’t you try and sleep?”

“Yeah in a bit. Can you talk to me until you get home? It soothes me.”

Dani swallowed hard, trying to dislodge a lump that had stuck there. “Um, yeah, sure. Let me put you on hands free.” Dani connected her phone to the hands free and started the engine.

“I miss you, Dani. I’m sorry I called you so late. Sorry I fucked up,” he mumbled. Dani reversed her car out of the parking space and ascended up to the ground floor.

“Don’t talk about that now. Let’s talk about something else.” Dani tried to sound chirpy but her heart was breaking knowing he was laid up in some hospital bed all alone.

“ Jeez, my head is banging and these pain killers are starting to make me woozy.”

“Well that’s good. Once they kick in you won’t be in so much pain.

When did they give you them?” Dani pulled out on to the road and headed towards Harewood.

Her eyes clouding over as tears flooded her eyes involuntarily.

For the first time since October she wished she wasn’t two hundred miles away from him.

“Just before I called you. The nurse said they’d start working in twenty minutes.”

“When did it happen?” Dani asked trying to keep her voice steady.

“I was on the way to the bar. I think it was six-ish. I hope they managed alright without me tonight.”

“I’m sure they did, Jez. Don’t worry about that now, Earl’s there.”

“Yeah, but he’s no manager. He’s not you.” The last three words he spoke were tinged with regret and Dani gasped softly.

“You didn’t get a manager, then? Someone to help you?” she asked before she could stop herself.

“No. Who could ever match up to you Dani?”

“Jez, please don’t. You said you wouldn’t do this,” Dani mumbled.

“Okay. I’m sorry. I’ll change the subject.”

“Good.” In an attempt to lightened the conversation Dani asked, “Are they looking after you alright? The hospital I mean.”

“I’ve got a freaking drip attached to me, you know how I hate needles. And they put my head in a neck brace,” huffed Jez.

“Oh Jez.” Dani tried to contain a sob.

“I’ll be fine tomorrow,” he yawned. “It’s just good hearing you again. Did I tell you that? Did I tell you that I miss you?”
