Avalon Timeline

AVALON TIMELINE

Prior to 427 AD: Avalon and Camelot are allies, separated by a mystical lake. They both worship the old gods, and messengers bridge the worlds. One of these bridges is Nimu? (the Fey Lady of the Lake).

420: Morgan le Fey and Accolon of Gaul have a son, Mordred.

427: Nimu? and Merlin have a son, Auberon.

On Avalon, Queen Morgan rules with her heir, Mordred. During her reign, the court flourishes with poetry and art.

In Camelot, Merlin grows increasingly entangled in human affairs and enchanted by their power.

438: King Arthur learns of a magical portal in Avalon that can transport individuals to other lands. This could create a British empire. He begins planning to encroach on Avalon’s territory to use this portal so he can conquer new worlds.

439: Merlin betrays the other Fey by supporting Arthur’s annexation plans for Avalon. Nimu?, believing Merlin has betrayed the old gods and the Fey, separates from him.

440: Mordred begins plotting against Arthur and Camelot to protect Avalon.

Spring 441: Mordred curses the Lady of Shalott, trapping her in a tower for the crime of warning King Arthur about his attack. Mordred breaks into Lothian Tower anyway and slaughters as many knights as he can. He kills Arthur and Guinevere. This attack sparks a war between Camelot and the Fey of Avalon.

Merlin takes control of the human army using magic. He leads the charge against the Court of Morgan against his own people, the Fey.

Autumn 441: The armies of Camelot, led by Merlin, clash with the forces of the Court of Morgan in Avalon. They fight to the death using magic and iron weapons. They call up the waters of Avalon to drown their enemies. As the battle rages, the island of Shalott is drowned.

Morgan is slaughtered on the battlefield.

Mordred fights viciously but ends up surrounded. Merlin is unable to kill him, but he curses him to live in isolation on the ruined, battled-scarred island of Avalon.

Winter 441: As the ashes of the war settle, the Court of Merlin creates Brocéliande. With the help of Merlin’s magic, Auberon convinces the surviving Fey that he is Morgan’s son and the true heir.

Auberon’s parents help him flee to safety in the new realm, and he discovered his magical skill of creating portals. Auberon now rules in a kingdom cut off from the human realm, where no one remembers that the true heir to the throne is Mordred. He stages a coronation in Brocéliande.

But still, Nimu? is grief-stricken at the destruction of Avalon and the betrayal of the Fey. She curses Merlin to languish for eternity inside an oak tree.

449: Auberon’s first son, Prince Lothyr, is born.

451: Elaine of Shallot has spent ten years trapped on the balcony of a tower at Camelot. Auberon becomes enchanted with her beauty. He rescues her and brings her to Brocéliande.

521: Prince Talan is born, the child of Elaine and Auberon.

528: Auberon burns Elaine for treason.

Early 1790: Scorched Earth Revolt

A famine breaks out. The peasants revolt against the king, and the royal family responds by burning the mob with dragon fire. Lothyr dies in the fighting.

2003: Second famine

A second famine breaks out, leading to starvation across the kingdom. Auberon blames the demi-Fey and humans for rotting the kingdom.

2005: Invasion of France

Auberon invades France to conquer new territory, hoping to feed the Fey and replenish his treasury.
