Chapter 22

CHAPTER 22

T hat night, Blake grabbed Tria’s leash when he saw Paige stretching and yawning. It took all of his willpower to not go over and kiss her.

Clearing the air between them was a good thing, but now he knew exactly what she wanted, and he couldn’t have her.

But damn if he didn’t want her.

He didn’t know how they would manage to sleep in the same bed together and not have something happen.

“I’m taking Tria for a walk,” he said.

Paige glanced up at him. “So late?” It was nearing ten.

“I’m not tired, and I’m going a little stir crazy.” He worried that she might offer to come with, but he needed time away from her.

She nodded. “Okay. I’m going to bed. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Blake took Tria down the street past Phil and Ida’s house. The lights were off, which was a shame, because Blake might’ve stopped by and chatted with them for a while.

As he circled back, he wondered if Paige was right. They probably wouldn’t last without something happening. But his feelings were all mixed up. He was falling for this crazy girl, and he didn’t know why.

She was everything he never wanted. She was new agey and artsy. She believed in psychics and astrology.

And yet, he didn’t see her as someone he just wanted to sleep with because she was pretty with a nice body. He wanted to love her.

He came around a corner, and Tria spotted a squirrel and practically yanked his arm out of the socket. He pulled her back, and she whined.

She couldn’t have what she wanted either. He jammed a hand through his hair.

He had a feeling that before this summer was over, he’d have more than his fair share of drama.

And he couldn’t figure out what he was waiting for.

If it would happen eventually, why not enjoy it while he could?
