26. Chapter Twenty-Six

Chapter Twenty-Six

A s the evening wore on, I found myself relaxing more and more in the company of these four men. The initial nervousness had faded, replaced by a warm sense of comfort that surprised me. We had moved from the dining room to a cozy living area, settling into plush sofas and armchairs arranged in a loose circle.

Elias sat beside me on the sofa, close enough that I could feel the warmth radiating from his body, but not so close as to make me uncomfortable. Finn and Soren occupied the armchairs across from us, while Lucian leaned against the fireplace mantel, his tall frame silhouetted by the soft glow of the flames.

"Lydia," Lucian called, drawing my attention. "I think it's time we addressed the reason we asked you here tonight." I felt my breath catch, the lighthearted atmosphere suddenly charged with anticipation. Elias fell silent, his hazel eyes watching me with a mix of hope and concern. Soren leaned forward, his usual smirk replaced by a serious expression. Finn gave me a small smile, but I could see the same look as Elias had on his face.

"Right," I managed, my voice barely above a whisper. "The... courting.” I didn’t know how to approach the subject at all as I shifted in my seat.

Lucian nodded, his steel-grey eyes gentle but intense as he looked at me. "Yes, the courting. We wanted to have an open conversation about our intentions and hear your thoughts on the matter."

I felt my heart rate pick up, a flutter of nervousness in my stomach. This was the moment of truth, the conversation I had both dreaded and longed for.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. "I... I admit I was surprised when Soren told me that's what was happening. I didn't realize..."

Elias's warm hand found mine, his touch gentle and reassuring. "We should have been clearer from the start," he said softly. "That's on us, Lydia. We didn't mean to confuse or overwhelm you."

Soren leaned forward, his purple eyes serious. "We know this is a lot to take in since we are an already established pack.” He wasn’t wrong— usually if the pack had an Omega already mated and bonded like they were, they didn’t add another Omega into the mix. I had read about things like it happening before, but it was rare.

Lucian leaned forward, his grey eyes serious. "Courting, in our pack, is a serious commitment. It's not just dating or casual fun. When we court someone, we're considering them as a potential mate— a lifelong partner. We don’t do flings or go outside of our pack. That isn’t up for debate."

I nodded slowly, absorbing Lucian's words. The gravity of what they were offering— not just a relationship, but a potential lifelong commitment— both thrilled and terrified me.

"I understand," I said softly. "And I appreciate your honesty. But... Why me? You're already a bonded pack. Why would you want to add another Omega?"

Finn spoke up, his green eyes warm. "Because you're special, Lydia. From the moment Elias met you, he felt a connection. And as we got to know you, we've each felt it too."

Elias squeezed my hand gently. "You're talented, kind, and stronger than you give yourself credit for. We see the real you, Lydia, beyond just being an Omega."

Finn spoke up, his green eyes warm as he looked at me. "We want you to know that there's no pressure here, Lydia. We're interested in courting you, yes, but only if that's something you want too. Your comfort and happiness are our priority."

I felt a lump forming in my throat at his words. It had been so long since anyone had prioritized my feelings like that. "Thank you," I whispered. "That means a lot to me."

Elias squeezed my hand gently. "We know you've been hurt before," he said softly. "And we know trust doesn't come easily. We're willing to take all the time you need to make this work.”

I nodded slowly, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. Their sincerity was palpable, their care for me evident in every word and gesture. But the fear of getting hurt again, of opening myself up only to be rejected, still lingered.

"I... I'm not sure what to say," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "This is all so new to me. I've never been courted before and I don’t know how to court you guys in return? Do I have to do anything?”

Elias gave a soft laugh, “No, as a pack we are courting you, someone without a pack. You don’t have to do anything but be yourself and let us spoil you.” I blushed at this, the heat coming off my cheeks making me want to duck my head and hide.

“Alright.” I whispered, glancing at all of them, “I want to try. I can’t say how fast or slow this will go…but I really want to try.”

As the words left my lips, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders. The room seemed to exhale with me, the tension dissipating like morning mist.

Elias's face lit up, his honey-warm scent spiking with happiness. "Really?" he asked, his voice filled with hope and excitement.

I nodded, a small smile tugging at my lips. "Really. I... I want to see where this goes."

Lucian pushed off from the mantel, his tall frame unfolding as he approached. He knelt in front of me, his steel-grey eyes intense but warm. "Thank you, Lydia," he said softly. "For giving us a chance. We promise to honor your trust and take things at your pace."

I nodded, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement fluttering in my stomach. "So... what happens now?" I asked, glancing around at the four men.

Elias chuckled softly beside me. "Now, we court you properly," he said, his hazel eyes twinkling. "Dates, gifts, time spent together separately and together as a group.”

Elias gave a look at the others then back at me, “And on that note, will you do the honor of letting me take you out on the first date? Just you and me?”

I felt my cheeks warm at Elias's words, a mix of excitement and nervousness fluttering in my stomach. The idea of a date with Elias— just the two of us— was both thrilling and slightly terrifying.

"I... I'd like that," I said softly, meeting his warm hazel eyes. "What did you have in mind?"

Elias's face lit up with a bright smile, his honey-warm scent spiking with happiness. "I was thinking we could have a picnic in the park," he suggested. "I know a beautiful spot by the lake. I could pack us a basket of treats, and we could spend the afternoon talking and enjoying nature."

The idea sounded lovely— casual enough to put me at ease, but still romantic. I nodded, a small smile tugging at my lips. "That sounds perfect."

Elias's face lit up with a brilliant smile, his honey-warm scent spiking with happiness. "Wonderful," he said, his voice filled with genuine excitement. "How about tomorrow. You said you usually have Mondays off, correct?”

I nodded, a small smile tugging at my lips. "Tomorrow sounds good… and yes Mondays are usually my days off that I set for myself.”

Soren leaned forward, his purple eyes twinkling with mischief. "Just don't let him talk your ear off about sourdough starters," he chuckled, throwing a teasing glare to Elias, “He can go on for hours.”

Elias shot Soren a playful glare. "I'll have you know my sourdough discussions are fascinating," he retorted, before turning back to me with a softer expression. "But I promise, no bread lectures unless you ask."

I couldn't help but laugh, the tension in my shoulders easing further. "I wouldn't mind hearing about it, actually," I admitted. "Your passion for baking is... nice."

Elias's face lit up at my words, his honey-warm scent spiking with happiness. "Well, in that case, I'll be sure to bring some of my latest creations for our picnic."

Lucian cleared his throat, drawing our attention. "While Elias has claimed the first official date," he said, his deep voice tinged with amusement, "I will be claiming your for the second one if you don’t mind.”

I heard Finn and Soren call out ‘unfair’ causing me to laugh softly, but I nodded. I felt my cheeks warm at Lucian's declaration, a mix of excitement and nervousness fluttering in my stomach.

"I'd like that," I said softly, meeting his intense steel-grey eyes. "What did you have in mind?"

Lucian's lips curved into a small smile, his eyes warming. "I was thinking we could visit the art museum in the next town over," he suggested. "I've heard they have a new exhibit on contemporary Omega artists that I thought you might enjoy. Afterwards, we could have dinner at a quiet restaurant I know."

The thoughtfulness of his suggestion touched me deeply. Not only had he remembered my passion for art, but he'd specifically chosen an exhibit that celebrated Omega artists. It was a gesture that spoke volumes about his desire to understand and appreciate me.

"That sounds wonderful," I said, my voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "I'd love to see that exhibit."

Lucian grinned, “Good. Do you have a preference for Friday or Saturday night?”

I considered for a moment, weighing my options. "Saturday would probably be better," I said. "The shop is usually busier on Fridays, and I'd hate to rush through closing up."

Lucian nodded, his steel-grey eyes warm with understanding. "Saturday it is, then. I'll make the arrangements."

Finn leaned forward, his green eyes twinkling with playful indignation. "Now hold on," he said, his tone light despite the mock frown on his face. "Are we going to have to fight over who gets to take Lydia out next?"

Soren chuckled, stretching out in his chair. "Looks like it," he said, shooting me a wink. "Better start planning now, Finn, or you'll be left in the dust."

I felt my cheeks warm at their playful banter, a mix of flattery and nervousness fluttering in my stomach. "I'm sure we can figure out a fair system," I said softly, glancing around at the four men. "I don't want anyone to feel left out."

Finn's expression softened, his green eyes warm as he looked at me. "Don't worry, Lydia," he said gently. "We're just teasing. There's no rush or competition here. We all want you to be comfortable and to enjoy getting to know each of us at your own pace."

Soren nodded in agreement, his purple eyes serious despite the playful smirk on his lips. "Exactly. We're a pack, after all. We support each other, including in this."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me at their words. The idea that they were all on the same page, supporting each other and prioritizing my comfort, eased some of the anxiety that had been building in my chest.

"Thank you," I said softly, looking around at each of them. "I appreciate that. This is all so new to me, and I... I don't want to mess it up."

Elias squeezed my hand gently, his honey-warm scent wrapping around me like a comforting blanket. "You won't mess anything up, Lydia," he said, his voice filled with reassurance. "We're all in this together, learning as we go."

Lucian nodded, his steel-grey eyes intense but warm. "Exactly. There's no rulebook for this, no perfect way to do things. We'll figure it out together.”

I nodded at this before offering Finn a small smile, “What did you have in mind for a date?”

Finn's face lit up at my question, his green eyes twinkling with excitement. "Well, I was thinking we could do something a bit different," he said, leaning forward slightly. "How do you feel about stargazing?"

I felt my interest pique at his suggestion. "Stargazing?" I repeated, a small smile tugging at my lips. "That sounds lovely."

Finn nodded, his enthusiasm evident in the way he spoke. "There's a great spot just outside of town where the view of the night sky is incredible. I thought we could pack some blankets, some hot chocolate, and spend an evening under the stars. I could point out some constellations, or we could just talk and enjoy the peace and quiet."

The idea sounded perfect— romantic without being overwhelming, and the thought of spending a quiet evening with Finn under the stars made my heart flutter.

"That sounds wonderful," I said, my voice filled with genuine enthusiasm.

"I'm so glad you like the idea," Finn said, his green eyes bright with happiness. "We can plan for it after your dates with Elias and Lucian. Maybe the following weekend?"

Soren leaned forward, a playful smirk on his lips. "Well, I guess that leaves me for last," he said, his purple eyes twinkling with mischief. "But don't worry, I'll make sure it's worth the wait."

I felt my cheeks warm at his words, a mix of curiosity and anticipation fluttering in my stomach. "Oh? And what did you have in mind?"

Soren's smirk widened, a hint of mystery in his expression. "Now that would be telling," he teased, his purple eyes shining with mischief. "Let's just say I have something special planned. You'll have to wait and see."

I felt a flutter of excitement in my stomach at his words. There was something thrilling about the mystery, about not knowing what Soren had in store. "I look forward to it," I said softly, meeting his intense gaze.

Soren's expression softened slightly, his purple eyes warm as they held mine. "So do I, Lydia. So do I."

Lucian cleared his throat, drawing our attention. "While individual dates are important," he said, his deep voice carrying a note of authority, "we should also plan some group activities. It's important that Lydia gets to have both experiences.”

Elias nodded enthusiastically at Lucian's suggestion. "That's a great idea," he said, his hazel eyes bright. "Maybe we could do a movie night here at the house? Or a game night?"

I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness at the idea. Group activities would certainly be different from one on one dates, but the thought of spending time with all of them together was appealing.

"I'd like that," I said softly, glancing around at the four men. "A movie night sounds nice. Or... maybe we could cook dinner together sometime?" The words slipped out before I could second guess them, and I felt my cheeks warm slightly.

Elias's face lit up at my suggestion. "That's a brilliant idea, Lydia!" he exclaimed, his honey-warm scent spiking with excitement. "We could each contribute a dish we enjoy.”

I smiled at Elias's enthusiasm, feeling a warm glow of happiness at how well my suggestion had been received. "That sounds perfect," I said softly. "I'd love to learn some new recipes."

Finn nodded, his green eyes warm. "It's settled then. We'll plan a group cooking night after our individual dates. It'll be a great way to spend time together in a relaxed setting."

Lucian checked his watch, his eyebrows raising slightly. "It's getting late," he said, his deep voice tinged with regret. "We should probably wrap things up for the evening. Thank you again for coming Lydia. We enjoyed having you.”

I glanced at the clock, surprised to see how much time had passed. The evening had flown by, filled with good food, laughter, and meaningful conversation. Part of me was reluctant to leave, but I knew it would be best if I did.

“Thank you for having me too. I enjoyed it…and I can’t wait to see what is to come.” I really meant it too.

I was apprehensive of the future…but with these four men I was also looking forward to it.
