I’ve been cramming for the SATs for a week, and math is finally starting to make sense. Alba high-fived me when I solved a quadratic on the first try. Asher texted that he was proud of me; we’ve been talking every night.
No one but Alba knows. She even offered—without me asking—to tell my father I’d gone to Oakwood Springs with her and her dad if he calls while I’m not at school.
Our relationship is becoming something I’ve never had with Mandy—a friendship without the crack running down the middle of a heart.
