Chapter 32
To Layne’s surprise, it had taken much longer for the NYPD to be alerted that there were decomposing bodies inside Smitty’s Fitness Center. Apparently, no one had been checking on the abandoned property on any sort of regular interval.
There was a pitiful investigation done by the police. After the realization that Eric Ellis had been a major player in the underground sex trafficking world thanks to an anonymous tip from someone by the name of Cowboy, there was little public outrage to look into what transpired inside the gym that night. It was assumed that the dangerous criminals of the world took out the trash living in their own backyard. They weren’t entirely wrong.
Layne had been more than happy to celebrate her status as Eric’s not-so-grieving widow. Particularly since it turned out that the insurance policies and his assets went to her by default. She bet he had never expected that one. Needless to say, finances were looking up for the O’Reilly organization.
As for the documents left for Layne by her father? Layne and Joey decided to keep that to themselves for now. There was no sense in rocking the boat…yet.
Several months had passed, and on this particular night, Joey stepped inside O’Reilly Manor at nearly three in the morning. He shrugged his jacket off and hung it up in the coat closet right near the front entrance.
In what should have been a minor job that night had taken longer than expected. The house was expectedly cast into pitch darkness indicating that Layne was already in bed fast asleep.
Quietly, he made his way upstairs and to the master bedroom. Pushing the door open, it only gave the slightest of creaks while swinging on its hinges. He walked over to the bed they had been sharing nearly every night for the past couple of months.
His hands reached behind him, grabbed the back of his shirt, and pulled it up over his head exposing the muscled physique underneath that was home to all the tattoos he had. Joey walked over to her side of the king-sized bed to check on her before he planned to hop in the shower to get cleaned up.
As he reached out to feel for Layne, his hand felt nothing but the cold sheets. His hand patted the mattress finding no one was there in the bed. Sighing, he hoped she hadn’t fallen asleep in the office again. He had carried her upstairs to bed on several occasions as a result of her spending hours diving into figuring out damage control of the failing criminal empire bearing the O’Reilly name.
Joey headed back downstairs to check the office. A glimmer of light was shining from underneath the door. When he walked inside, he was surprised not to find her asleep on the desk with her head on top of the keyboard.
As he approached the desk, a small but powerful body rammed into his back knocking him forward unexpectedly. Slender arms wrapped around his throat and bare legs around his waist. Fortunately, he was easily able to upright himself. The arms around his neck squeezed threateningly, and a sultry and demanding voice whispered into his ear.
“It’s just you and me now, handsome. I’m only going to ask my questions once, and you’re going to be a good boy and answer them.”
He inhaled the familiar scent of daisies after a rainstorm. His hands grasped onto Layne’s legs wrapped around him as he smirked. “Is that right?”
“Mmhmm.” She responded as her hand spread out and ran over several of the tattoos covering the front of his chest. “Where were you tonight?”
He tensed at the question before he walked over to the desk with her still clinging to his back like a little monkey. “I told you I had a job to wrap up.”
She slid down off of him, placing her feet firmly on the floor. Layne’s hands spun him around to face her. “That’s not what I heard.”
Joey looked down at the sight before him, his eyes lighting up in excitement at what he saw. Layne stood there wearing a pair of black panties with a matching bralette. Her long locks of chestnut hair hung down freely in loose waves around her shoulders. However, it was the dark and twisted mask stretched across her face with the green and orange threads crisscrossed over the skull teeth that sealed the deal on his cock quickly jumping to full attention in his pants.
“Doing a little stalking of your own?” He lifted a brow at her curiously.
Layne nudged him back until he voluntarily sat on the edge of the desk. Her hands grabbed his knees and pushed his legs apart so she could stand between them. “I believe I asked you a question. Are you making me ask twice?”
A grin stretched across his face in amusement at being on the receiving end of inquiries that were typically his. “No, I wouldn’t want to do that.” His hand reached out and tugged that black mask down over her face to expose her full and currently pouty lips. “You want to know where I was?” His thumb traced over her bottom lip slowly.
She gave a small nod in response.
He moved his hand up to slide over the side of her face until his fingers wrapped around the back of her neck while his thumb stroked over her cheek softly. “Seeing someone about a deal I made.”
That answer didn’t quite satisfy her if the look in her eyes was any indication.
He pulled her head in closer as his lips met with hers. Joey’s mouth lovingly claimed her mouth slowly and sensually to ease whatever unfounded concerns she had. When he relinquished his sweet hold on her and drew back, he presented her with what was in his other hand. In the center of his palm was a small black box made of satin.
Layne went still as she saw what was in his hand. Her eyes stared at the closed box for a few seconds and then darted back up to look at his face seeing his eyes set on her.
“I have never wanted anyone the way that I want you. Since the night I first saw you sitting inside McGregor’s, I was immediately hooked. There are days you drive me fuckin’ insane, but those are the days where I want to be your everything the most. I don’t care what battles we have to face, but we will be the storm that everyone should prepare for. I love you and I would die a thousand painful deaths for you.”
He pulled open the box revealing an eye-catching, thin platinum band with a sparkling oval diamond at the center, surrounded by a black rhodium-plated collar with black diamonds. A small emerald to match her eyes was set at both the top and the bottom of the diamond in the middle. “Will you marry me?”
Layne stood there not even looking at the uniquely gorgeous ring, but looking at his face in shock.
“Don’t make me ask twice, Layney.” He did his best to mask the slight uptick of anxiousness in his voice.
Her bottom lip trembled slightly followed by a large smile as she threw herself up against him. Layne’s lips crashed onto his as she devoured the taste of his mouth. Her response came out between several kisses. “Yes!” Kiss. “I love you.” Kiss. “Yes.”
A wave of relief washed over him as he welcomed her onslaught of affection and returned it with his own. His tongue slid its way into her mouth as he savored all of her taste. After several moments of their lips wrangling together, Joey pulled back with a smile. “Let’s get this ring on you before another guy thinks he can take a shot at what’s mine.”
After removing the ring from the box, he lifted her hand to slide the small piece of metal onto her finger. “There, a perfect fit.”
Layne smirked playfully at him. “Much like something else.” Her hands dropped to the belt on his pants. Her fingers unlatched his belt and yanked. It slid from the belt loops with the tail whipping around until it was freed. She dropped it down to the floor.
That’s when Joey possessively wrapped an arm around her waist as he got up off the desk. With a single arm around her, he lifted her and turned to have her take his place on top of the desk where he had just been seated. His hand took hold of her chin while grazing her lips with his mouth as he spoke in the low and husky tone that always set her insides on fire. “Be a good girl and spread those legs for me.”
Her breath caught in her throat as he gave that demand. Layne’s lips parted slightly as she did as she was told. “I need you.” The words barely came out above a whisper.
Joey shoved his dark cargo pants down, taking his boxer briefs with them. Unleashed was his large, hard cock ready to go. His smirk was full of dark desires and promises. “You’re going to get me.” He stepped up to her while his hand gripped and twisted the bralette in his fist. “Every damn day.”
Before her gasp could fully be released from her mouth, he pulled her forward by the flimsy lace containing her breasts. A searing kiss locked onto her and his hands pawed at her chest, sliding the straps of the bralette over her shoulders and the remainder of it to her waist.
Layne feverishly returned his kisses imagining their life together. In a rush of anticipation and excitement, she shoved the lace undergarments off her body. Her mask was pulled off from around her neck and tossed to the ground.
He lowered himself to capture one of her feet in his hands and began sowing a garden of kisses leading up the length of her leg. Layne leaned back on her hands while sitting there on the desk as his mouth worked its way closer to her core.
When his mouth finally made it to the top of her leg, he licked a long line along her inner thigh. She whimpered as he edged closer to where she needed him. Layne needed to feel his mouth consuming her arousal like it was the damn fountain of life.
The strength of Joey’s hands pushed her thighs even wider as he licked his lips. “You better hold on tight, Layney. I’m going to fill myself up on the taste of you.”
That was all the warning she got before he was burying his face against her pussy. Layne immediately surrendered to the pleasure he brought her. Her hands knocked several items off the desk as her body reacted to his mouth.
His mouth brought her over the edge into sexual bliss several times before he pulled her off the desk. Layne’s head was delightfully clouded with pleasure as she smiled at him. “Somebody has an appetite tonight.”
Joey gave her a smirk. “Only for you.” He carried her over to a chair where he took a seat with her in his lap.
With his cock teasing at the opening of her sex, Layne leaned in and kissed her way over the shadow of facial hair along his jaw until she reached his ear. “You should hold on, you’re not the only one who is going to get their fill tonight.” She lowered her body down onto him. Her hands held onto the sides of his body, one of her hands covering up the ‘Chaos Addict’ script tattooed along his ribs.
His hands landed on her waist as he groaned in approval of the way her pussy took him in. He looked into her eyes, getting lost in them as she began to move her hips to ride his cock.
The two of them tangled themselves up in carnal pursuits there in the office until the sun began to filter in through the windows and they ended up together on the floor. Both of their bodies were covered with a mix of sweat and arousal.
Joey lay there with his arms wrapped around her, staring up at her face as she lay on top of his chest. “You’ll always be mine, forever.”
Layne stared down into the face of the one man who had gotten past the walls surrounding her heart, she smiled happily. “You’ll always have me, forever.”
