Legend

I knew that she thought her ass was getting out of that zoo date, but it wasn’t happening. I made sure of it. I used my li’l pimp by bringing him to the office on Thursday. I let him hang out with me all day since I didn’t have much to do.

We even took the stairs during lunchtime, with him riding on my shoulders. I timed it perfectly so that we could run into Legacy. Li’l G wasted no time reminding her that he would be picking her up Saturday at eleven. He told her to dress comfortably and be ready to have some fun.

She wasn’t quite ready for me to know where she lived yet. The fact that I had her number was more than enough for her. So we agreed to meet up at the office.

“Sorry that I’m running late,” she apologized as she climbed into my navy blue Denali with us. “I had to finish some paperwork for one of our attorneys and get it down here this morning. I just finished up what I had to do,” she stated, pointing over her shoulder at the building.

“It’s all good, baby girl.”

I closed the door behind her and rounded the front of the car as she turned in her seat to greet Kayson.

He was so excited that she was there that he chattered the entire way to the zoo about his favorite animals, and he couldn’t wait to go to the cat house to see the panthers and lions.

He let out his best roar to impress Legacy.

“Are you thirsty?” I asked when we arrived at the zoo. The temperatures were extremely hot for a May day.

“I could go for some lemonade,” Legacy declared, pointing at the nearby refreshment stand.

“When was the last time you visited the zoo?” I asked as we stood in line to order.

“Oh, wow. It was probably when I was nineteen. I came here to hang out with my sister and a few of our friends, just goofing around. How about you all?”

“Once a quarter.” When she lifted an eyebrow, I pointed at Kayson. “He loves the animals.”

“Can we start at the cat house, Daddy?” he asked.

“Sure, li’l G, if that’s what you want.”

“Come on, Ms. Legacy,” he demanded, grabbing her hand and tugging on it. As soon as we entered the cat house, Kayson took off to his favorite exhibit without getting too far ahead of us.

“Sorry that he’s so aggressive and bossy.”

“It’s okay.” She laughed. “But I’m sure that I know where he got it from.”

“Do you like that in your man?”

She bit her bottom lip and whispered, “Especially in the bedroom.”

My heart and my dick jumped at once. Was she finally coming around, or was it just mind games?

“I’m kind of the same in the bedroom and out,” I replied.

“Mm . . . I’ve seen a softer side of you, at least with that little boy. I think I like that side of you.”

“Oh yeah? Is that what appeals to you?”

“I like a little bit of both with balance.”

“Ain’t no part of me soft in the bedroom, li’l mama. I can promise you that, but I can treat you gently and be tender with you.”

“That sounds like a doable plan.”

“Are we making plans?” I asked, slanting my attention at her.

“Maybe,” she replied with a wink as she sashayed away from me and caught up with Kayson.

I stood back and watched as Kayson explained everything to Legacy about the exhibits he was checking out.

Throughout the tour of the cat house, he continued to amaze her with his vast knowledge of each cat species.

“What’s your fabuwit zibit, Ms. Legacy?” Kayson asked as we left the cat house.

“The red pandas,” she answered with wide eyes and excitement all over her face.

“I love the red pandas!” Kayson exclaimed.

“Then I think that should be our next stop.”

My little guy had truly taken over this date, but it was all good because it was about him anyway. This was originally his day, but at the last minute, we had decided to include Legacy. Only, he was treating her like this was his date, and her little ass was going right along with him.

I couldn’t be mad, though, because I definitely loved the way she interacted with my little guy. The way she was wildin’ that night at the bar, I wouldn’t have expected her to be as gentle, sweet, and good with kids as she was. First impressions weren’t always everything.

“Aren’t they absolutely adorable?” Legacy cooed when we were in the red panda exhibit.

“What do they eat?” Kayson asked.

“Sometimes they eat small animals, but they mostly eat bamboo shoots and leaves.”

“Owwhhh. Did you see that?” he asked and pointed in the distance.

The panda had jumped almost four feet to another tree.

“Yes, they can jump up to five feet. Do you see the hair on the bottom of that one’s feet?” Legacy asked, pointing at one particular panda.

“Yes,” Kayson answered, bobbing his head.

“That’s what prevents them from slipping when they’re on those branches.”

“Why are they not moving?” Kayson asked, pointing up at the trees where we could see quite a few of them resting in the branches and some in the tree hollows.

“They are called crepuscular animals. That means they’re awake at dawn, which is when it’s light outside, but before the sun comes up, and also at dusk, which is just as it’s changing to nighttime. They’re mostly sleepers. They sleep for up to seventeen hours a day.”

I loved how patient Legacy was when she answered Kayson’s numerous questions and explained to him on a level that he could understand.

We continued our journey through that exhibit before we moved on to see the elephants, manatees, birds, and lions.

“As much as I love the red pandas, I’ll tell you a secret, Kayson.”

“What?” he asked as his eyes ballooned.

“The lions are really my favorite. You know why?” Legacy asked in a conspiratorial whisper. When he shook his head no, she replied, “Because I’m a Leo. Leo the lion.” Then she did a fake roar that had my guy giggling his heart out.

I shook my head.

“That was a weak roar. Wasn’t it, Daddy?”

“She did her best,” I replied with a smirk.

“Oh, so you two are teaming up on me. Can you do better?” Legacy challenged.

Kayson roared and then declared, “Daddy has the best roar. Roar, Daddy.”

I released my roar. Legacy bent her head, played with the short hairs in her kitchen, and then bit back a smirk.

I placed my hand on her lower back, leaned in and whispered, “What ya crossing ya legs for, ma?”

She shivered and met my gaze. “Oh, I think you know why.”

“Might have to do something about that.”

“Okay, Mr. On Sight.”

I winked, and we continued to enjoy our day at the zoo before grabbing some pizza at The Pizza Barn. Kayson was already knocked out from the long day when we pulled up at the office. I climbed out of the car, ran around and grabbed the door for Legacy, and helped her out.

“Wow, and he’s a gentleman.”

“Baby girl, don’t front like you don’t know. You knew that from how I handled ya li’l horny ass that night at the hotel.”

“You’re right. I did.” She bobbed her head and smiled brightly at me.

I took her hands in mine and looked down at her. “Let’s tally up some points. I was nothing but a gentleman at the hotel, and I left your virtue intact.”

She giggled and replied, “You did. Thank you kindly for that, by the way.”

“You’re welcome. And I helped you gather some things that fell from your purse, including a Plan B box, I might add. Prevented you from being embarrassed in the event a smooth, good-looking gentleman stepped up and saw you at your lowest,” I replied with a wink.

She groaned, threw her hands over her face, and then replied. “Please don’t remind me of that.”

“Then there were numerous times that I held the elevator for ya, late ass.”

She giggled again. “One point each, sir.”

“Oh, and let’s not forget the time that we were stuck in the elevator, and your anxiety crept up and tried to punk you out. I didn’t even let you go out like that. I stood like a G on business and whupped anxiety’s ass.”

She laughed so hard that I had to stop and admire her beauty for a moment.

“Why are you staring at me like that?” she asked, biting her bottom lip shyly.

“I ain’t gon’ hold ya, ma. When you laugh like that, it almost brings a G to his knees.”

“Oh, maybe I should laugh like that more often.”

I cupped her chin and caressed it. “Maybe you should.”

Her eyes dropped to my lips, and I slowly leaned in and brushed mine against hers. Our eyes remained open as she watched me. After several soft pecks, I pulled back. “Just a sampler, that’s all I wanted.”

“Smooth.”

“Wait until you get the full experience.”

“Mm. I’m liking the sound of this more and more.”

“Good. Now, where were we . . . I’ve got to keep adding up those points.”

“Oh, don’t forget how you came through with all the cuteness with baby boy on volunteerism day.”

“Definitely that. And today.”

“Best date ever,” she replied with a giggle.

“How about with all those points I’ve added up, you let me top this date? Just you and me.”

“We’re kicking little guy to the curb with all his cuteness and smooth moves?”

“Yeah, because next time, I want to show you where he gets all that shit from.”

“Oh. Well, just say when.”

“Let me plan something, and you show up, and I’ll show out.”

“I like that,” she replied as I released her hands.

I leaned in and kissed her cheek. “You be good, li’l mama.”

“I will, Legend.”

I watched as she walked to her car and climbed inside. Before she closed the door, I called after her. “Legacy?”

“Yeah?”

“Next time, we won’t be meeting up here at the job and putting folks in our business and shit. I’ma roll through like a real G.”

She smiled, blew a kiss, and closed the door. I hopped back inside, feeling happier and lighter than I had in a very long time.
