Chapter 10 #2
I didn’t really know how long we were at this bowling alley with nobody really bowling but the kids, but as the day began to wind down, some bowling did happen.
I stood back and watched as Rem bowled with my nephew and Bry.
I had been nervous as hell earlier, but now here I was wondering what I was so nervous about.
It wasn’t like he was some square being tugged into a world he knew nothing about.
It was the complete opposite. It took a beast to run with a beast, so of course he fit right in.
“You really fuck with him, huh?” My brother’s voice filled my eardrum. I glanced to my side and Aroyal leaned against the bar on the side of me.
“I do. Is it that obvious?” My eyes found Reminisce as my nephew gave him a high-five.
“Hell yeah. You been watching him for the better part of the day. You got that shit bad, but I get it. Trust me, I do.” His eyes were in the distance. When I followed his line of sight, I found Kaydence seated at a table talking to their daughter.
“Then tell me something.”
“Tell you what?” he asked, his eyes now on me.
“You shook his hand and you didn’t know him. For all the time I was with Turo, you never shook his hand.”
Aroyal nodded, his expression growing serious. “You remember how you introduced Turo to me?”
I shook my head. “Not really. I mean, I’m sure I told you he was my boyfriend or something like that.”
“Exactly. When you first brought him around, you introduced him as your boyfriend and that nigga did not flinch when you said it. Whereas with him.” He threw his head forward in Rem’s direction.
“You introduced me to yo’ man and you stood ten toes down behind it.
It’s different. Even if you don’t see it, I do. ”
“Are you sure it’s not the fact that he has tattoos on his face too? I mean it’s okay if it is.”
“Fuck outta here.” He waved me off. “Now come in here and let me whoop your ass in bowling like I used to when we were kids.”
“Ifucking love looking at you.” He was behind me, most likely staring at my ass while I made him an omelet at seven in the evening.
We spent most of our time with my family for my nephew’s party before we ultimately came back to my place.
Here he made sure to touch me everywhere it counted before announcing he was hungry.
Only Reminisce regarded pizza and cheesesticks as snacks.
He was picky, but tonight his picky ass was getting a spinach omelet before I knocked out.
“You heard me?” he asked, dispersing my thoughts.
“Yeah, but I’m pretty sure you’re staring at my ass, right?”
“Damn right I am. That motherfucker is calling my name.”
“I thought food was calling your name, Reminisce.”
“Shit, that too. ’Boutta eat that and hope this migraine goes away, then we going to get my daughter in the morning, ’cause Rennix got me fucked up kidnapping my daughter and screening my fucking calls.
Talking about they’re at the movies. Does it look like I give a fuck? They could pause that shit.”
I laughed. “They can’t pause the movies at the theater, Rem.”
“If I were there, they would.”
I flipped his omelet onto the plate, then cut the stove off. Once I was finished, I moved over to him. “I bet they would, now eat up. I’m going to sleep.” I set the fork I’d been holding down along with the plate then moved to walk away.
He gripped my arm. “Nah, stay with me.”
“I’m tired. I’ll wait on you in the be—” I started but there was banging at the door. I felt Rem’s eyes before we both looked at the door. He knew not to ask if I was expecting anybody because I had been with him the whole day.
“Go put some pants on so I can see who’s at this door.” He set the fork down and stood.
“Ain’t nobody looki—”
“Pants now, Karim,” he called over his shoulder as he moved toward the door.
I eyed my track pants on the sofa before moving toward them. Once I had them on fully, Reminisce opened the door. I approached the back of him, wondering who the hell was banging on my door.
My eyes landed on the two uniform cops standing on the other side of my threshold and I immediately crossed my arms. “Good evening, sir, we’re looking for a Karim Ortega. Is she anywhere around or on the premises?”
Before Reminisce could respond, Turo’s bitch ass voice filled the space. “It wasn’t her who hit me. It was him.”
I pushed closer to the door, lodging myself between him and the door in case these were the type to jump stupid.
“Are you sure?” One of the cops looked back at Turo.
“Yes, she hi—I mean, he hit me,” Turo’s weak ass repeated feebly.
“Nah, I’m not about to be a part of any bullshit doing a favor for Hanson.” The other cop stepped away from my door.
That must’ve pissed Reminisce off. I was immediately forced behind him as he opened his mouth. “What the fuck is the point of this?”
“She tripped me in the store and you fucking hit me right here. I want your ass arrested.” Turo looked from cop to cop, but neither of them moved.
“Hypothetically, if I did put my hands on you, why you come here talking about she did? Not only that, but if she hypothetically asked your weak ass to leave, but you didn’t, hypothetically wouldn’t that be considered trespassing? And wouldn’t you be the one getting arrested? Hypothetically?”
The cops looked between Turo and Reminisce then at one another. They were lost and obviously this was a dummy mission as a favor to Turo’s older brother who was a low-grade detective.
“My freaking eye isn’t hypothetical, asshole.” Turo pointed to his blue eye.
Reminisce yawned. “Look, I ain’t got time for this. Y’all need something officers or can we close this door?”
The cop with the funny looking mustache and weird shaped head interrupted Reminisce’s statement. “Sir, if either of you put your hands on him—”
“Then he’d have much worse than a fucked-up eye. Believe me,” Reminisce cut in quickly.
I stood on the side of him, my heart beating a mile a minute. I now wanted to put hands on Turo for bringing this shit to my door.
Turo sucked his teeth loudly. “You hit me.”
Reminisce tilted his head to the side. “You said that already.”
“Earlier you said she assaulted you,” Officer Mustache pointed out.
“Well, I didn’t know his name.”
“And you said hers instead?” the other officer followed up. “You’re lucky we aren’t arresting your ass out here.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Turo sneered.
“Very serious,” the other cop responded.
“So you’re just gonna let him go?”
Thick Mustache addressed Turo. “No, we’re gonna ask you to leave the premises before the outcome of this is something you won’t like.”
“You have got to be kidding me.”
“No, we’re not. Let’s go, Mr. Hanson. We apologize for bothering you, Ms. Ortega,” the other cop said.
The moment the door closed, my back was pressed against it. “I’ma end up killing that nigga, and on my mama, you better not care when I do.”
I smiled before drilling the top row of my teeth into my lips. “That’s fine too. Now can I go to bed.”
He then lowered his lips and pressed them against mine. At the same time, he gripped my ass, picking me up. I immediately wrapped my legs around his waist. “Nah, not yet, but you can definitely get some of this dick.”
“I thought you had a migraine. And didn’t you just have me make this omelet? You better ea—”
My sentence was interrupted as he carried me past the omelet, the kitchen, and the living room.
“Nah we good, that motherfucker was salty too, bae. I got something else in mind I wanna eat though.”
I laughed. “And your head?”
“It’s cool. Not as bad when we were at the bowling alley.” He spoke quickly, moving into my bedroom. To my surprise he didn’t stop there, but instead took us to the bathroom. He sat me on the counter and went into the shower room.
“You skipped my omelet to take a fucking shower, Reminisce?”
“Nah. I skipped it ’cause I didn’t feel like having hypertension. Don’t get mad at me ’bout that. At least I told you the truth.” I could hear the water in the other room, but instead of the shower it was the sound of the faucet filling the tub.
“Fuck you, Reminisce.”
“You ‘bout to.” He walked out of the bathroom holding his phone in his hands with his unbuckled belt and jeans sagging low on his waist. “We’re going out to Rennix’s house tomorrow.
Indiri is in town and wants to have dinner with everybody.
It’s at Rennix’s house and on my life, I’m grabbing my baby, ’cause they got me fucked up. ”
I laughed. He had been going on and on about his siblings kidnapping Romance all day and he didn’t like it one bit.
Jade was supposed to have returned her to him, but Rennix took her from him and was now demanding a couple days with her.
“She’ll be home bargaining for extra snacks before you know it. ”
He laughed, then typed something into his phone. “True.” When he finished typing, he set his phone face up on the counter next to me. Then he stepped between my legs, his hands finding themselves on the waistband of my trackpants.
“You really fuck with me, Rim?”
I nodded, dropping my arms on his shoulders. “The longest way possible.”
“Good. Now lift up for me.”
Doing as I was asked, I helped him help me out of my pants.
