Chapter 70
JESSI
I’m not sure what Jack and my dad talked about, and I don’t care because Dad is here, and for that, I’m thankful.
We’re trying to go back to the way things were prior to Austin and Shannon, but it might be a long road.
Maybe we will, or maybe we’ll settle into a new normal, but we’re both trying. I’m happy he’s here.
The afternoon rushes by. These people are my family. I can’t believe I questioned if I could be entrenched in this life. There is no place I’d rather be.
Jack catches me staring at him in awe. He heads toward me and directs me to the front of the room.
Then he whistles, drawing everyone’s attention.
“I want to thank everyone who showed up to the grand reopening of our shop and club. Without you, tonight wouldn’t be as special, so thank you for giving us your support. ”
Applause ripples through the bar.
After it dies down, he clears his throat and squeezes my hand. “I also wanted to share how much I love Jessi.”
I stare at him, wide-eyed, and watch as he drops to one knee in front of me.
“Jack?” My mind races, trying to comprehend what’s happening.
He grins at me. “Jessi, I love you. I don’t want to spend one more day as boyfriend and girlfriend.
” He gives me a wink, and I laugh. “Baby, let’s make a deal.
If you say yes, you can pick every movie we watch, and I won’t turn my nose at all the weird greens you try to make me eat.
I’ll let you pay anytime you want—from our shared bank account.
I will love you until the end of time, and nothing in the world would make me happier than if you were my wife. Be mine. Forever.”
I grin and nod, too stunned to speak. I drop to the floor to meet him where he is.
A beautiful teardrop diamond ring sparkles from a box in his hand, and he wastes no time sliding it on my finger. Then he hauls me to him, cradling my head in his hands. He kisses me like we’re not in a room full of family and friends.
When I finally speak, there’s only one thing I can say. “Deal.”
