Chapter 22
Taylor
Epilogue
Little Jack runs around the backyard as Mr. Maxwell tries to catch him. For being almost two, he sure is fast.
He lets out a shriek as Pops catches him and swings him in the air. He’s such a good grandfather.
“How do you even keep up with that kid?” Easton shakes his head as he sits back in his seat.
“It’s a struggle most days.” Cassy chuckles. “Sometimes I'm not sure I'm going to survive it, especially with this one on the way.” She places her hand over her pregnant belly.
“Well, you have me to wrangle the little monster now.”Cassy’s husband smiles and presses a soft kiss to the top of her head.
“How are you feeling?” Cassy turns her attention to me and my equally pregnant belly .
“I'm ready for this to be over. I want to meet our little bundle of joy.”
“You only have one more week, baby.” Easton drapes his arm around my shoulders and presses a soft kiss to my head.
“I know, but it’s just too long,” I groan, letting my head fall back against him.
“I’m just happy this baby wants to stay for as long as he or she has. Delivering JJ so early was terrifying. I wasn’t sure if he was going to live and going through that alone was awful.” Cassy shakes her head as she stares at her son with so much love.
Once Easton’s mom apologized to us, we took our time letting her get used to our relationship before we spent a lot of time with the Maxwell family.
Soon, Cassy asked if we’d be willing to meet Jack Junior. She wants him to have a relationship with Jack’s family and knows that will be a little more difficult since Jack died.
The first time she came over, she pulled me aside and apologized for everything that happened the day of the funeral. She was upset and she took it out on me, which looking back is also extremely understandable.
I can only imagine how painful it was for her to know Jack loved her and wanted to be with her, yet he refused to give himself fully to her. I'm sure she hated me for a very long time and I can't blame her one bit .
It’s taken us some time to grow in our relationship, but we’re getting there. She’s been a huge supporter for me throughout this entire pregnancy and I can't wait for both of our babies to be born.
Cassy’s husband, Tom, is perfect for her. He reminds me a lot of Jack and it makes me so happy to see the two of them together. Each one of us will never stop missing Jack, but it’s nice to see everyone living again.
We're all finding our happily ever afters even though our hearts will always be broken over the loss of Jack Maxwell.
