Chapter 8 #3

I realize he’s whispering in my ear. His words are low and filthy and worshipful all in the same breath. I listen to him telling me how tight I am, how he loves how wet I get for him, and how long he’s wanted me. It’s heady stuff for a woman who never felt particularly wanted by a man.

I rake my nails down his back and raise my hips to meet him, thrust for thrust. Yeah, I’m a little demanding and a whole lot greedy, right up until my third orgasm of the night comes crashing down around me. I think that he’s going to chase his own orgasm, but he grinds out, “Not yet.”

He surprises me by rolling over without pulling out and putting me on top. Sitting astride this big, rough biker makes me feel like a queen for real. He keeps his hands on my hips, and all I can think about is riding him.

“Your turn, darlin’. Take what you want from me. I promise I’ll fuckin’ love it.”

And just like that, I’m in charge. I bend down, give him a quick kiss, and begin moving over him, faster and faster, giving us both the good, hard movements I’ve discovered we like best. I end up bracing both palms on his chest to balance myself.

Sabre does his share by thrusting from below, his hips driving up to meet me.

We might no longer be graceful at this point, but we move perfectly together.

When I come all over his cock, Sabre drags me down for one final kiss, stilling inside me.

We’re locked together so tight that I almost can’t feel his cock throbbing inside me as he finds his own release.

Eventually, I collapse on his chest. For several long moments, neither of us can catch our breath, much less move.

“So, my grade in bed would be an A-plus, right?” He’s back to being sexy and playful.

“Don’t you dare try to make me assign a grade to the best sex of my life.” I nip playfully at his shoulder. Then he laughs. It’s a deep, rich sound that comes up through his diaphragm. It’s true, wholesome, and it makes me like him even more.

Once we’ve both caught our breath, I prop my chin up on his stomach and say, “Tell me about Gus. Was he a family friend, relative, or some wild man you met in the woods one day?”

He gives me an indulgent look. Me? I just want to learn more about him and hear the slow rumble of his voice.

“He was a neighbor who became a friend and mentor when I needed one the most. He had a shop behind his house and would let me hang out there. He taught me woodworking and how to fix cars. We fished several times a week, and he taught me to use a fillet knife when I was about Noah’s age.

He also taught me to pick berries, nuts, and fruit and how to cook basic shit.

There was always somethin’ interestin’ to do at old Gus’s place. ”

“He sounds amazing. You lucked out finding him. You mentioned he was the one who taught you to throw knives.”

“Yeah, like I said, he taught me a lot of important shit. His house was the only truly safe place I had growin’ up.

My parents were what they call emotionally unavailable.

My ma ran off when I was little, and my old man worked, drank, and didn’t like havin’ me around.

My gran stayed with us for a while, but she passed.

Gus let me come and go from his place before I even started first grade.

If not for him, I’d have been home alone all day while my old man worked, scavenging for food I could feed myself. ”

“It sounds like Gus just taught you a better way to scavenge for food.”

“Yeah, I guess you could say that. He was just a lonely old man with not a living soul in the world who cared about him. I became the grandson he never had.”

Patting his chest, I say, “You both needed someone and became that for each other. It’s a sweet story if you think about it.”

Sabre reaches down, grabs my hand, and brings it to his lips for a tender kiss. “Unfortunately, Gus passed while I was stationed overseas in the military. It just about fuckin’ broke me.”

“I’ll bet it did. Grief is hard, especially if you can’t get back to pay your final respects.”

“He left me this house and money. I’d trade it all to have him back.” The conversation stalls out for a moment before he adds, “I like that he left me this house. Every fuckin’ corner of this place is filled with memories of him and all the shit we did together.”

“I’m glad you have something to remember him by.”

“He’d have liked you, Linsey,” Sabre says. “He’d have liked Noah too. That kid keeps a log of every fuckin’ thing.”

I smile at the pride in his voice when he talks about Noah.

He pulls the blanket up and tucks it around us, careful to make sure my shoulders are covered. One hand comes down to cover my hand, the one still resting on his chest. He holds it there over his heartbeat. He’s silent for so long, I think he’s fallen asleep. Then he speaks.

“So, now you know what I came from,” he says with quiet dignity. “You have to decide if I’m the kind of man you want in your life.”

My head comes up hard and fast because I was drowsing and didn’t catch all of that. “What? Say that again.”

“I came from poor white trash and managed to make something out of myself. I don’t want to be with someone who will look down on me. You have to decide if my upbringing is a deal breaker for you.”

I’m already shaking my head before he even gets the sentence out. “Of course that wouldn’t even be a consideration, much less a deal breaker. You didn’t choose to be born into a family with problems. If anything, I think it’s commendable that you got your life spinning in a better direction.”

He looks relieved. “I just wanted to be honest with you.”

“You already know I grew up in a messed-up family as well. My father is one of those holy rollers who acts pious at church three times a week and curses at his family on off days. And my mother, bless her heart, has a serious medical issue.”

His expression turns serious. “I’m sorry. I hope she’s doing okay.”

“Well, she was born with a spine but lost it somewhere along the way. Who the hell knows if she’ll ever find it again.”

Sabre frowns at me. “Not funny, Linsey.”

“Sometimes you just have to laugh or else you’d cry,” I say. It’s true. I’ve used humor over the years to try and minimize the shit my parents and Dylan put me through.

“Just so you know, I’m not interested in one-night stands. I’ve been there and done that. I’m ready for something permanent. No pressure. I just want you to know what I’m aimin’ for here.”

I tip my gaze up into his clear blue eyes. This badass biker wants something real with me. I tell it to him straight. “I have to think about what’s best for my son as well as myself. I’m not sure I’m ready for a long-term relationship. But if I were, I’d want it to be with you.”

“That’s fine,” he responds. “I’m a patient man. We can keep it casual and see where this goes.”

“You should probably know that I don’t share and have a zero-tolerance policy for cheating, so club girls are off the table.”

He brings my hand to his lips again, and instead of kissing my hand, he nips at my knuckles with his teeth. “That’s something you’ll never have to worry about with me. You have my word on that.”

We fall asleep in each other’s arms, and for the first time since I learned that Dylan had been released, I slept soundly.
