Bailey
This is going to be the longest week ever. Why didn’t I make plans with him after work? Oh, because that makes me look like a crazy person.
But seriously, how am I going to survive five whole ass days before seeing him again?
Is this a pity party? Yeah, but fuck it, I’ll buy a hat and some cupcakes and call it a day.
Mondays are usually busy, so hopefully the rest of this shift will fly by. I’m already caught up on the weekend follow-ups and onto my second cup of coffee.
I look up from the medication bin, glancing at the door, just fucking willing him to waltz through it.
I shake my head, trying to remind myself that I’m a professional, at work, and that I shouldn’t be day dreaming about sexy men in crop tops waltzing into the pharmacy.
I busy myself with the daily tasks, trying not to check my phone for any missed messages, but failing miserably after about thirty whole minutes. Who needs self-control anyway?
Friday can’t come soon enough. My phone vibrates in my coat pocket and my heart jumps behind my rib cage.
A small sigh of disappointment escapes my lips when it’s not him.
Liam: When’s your next not date?
I smile, cheeks warming faster than should be humanly possible.
Me: Friday
Liam: I fucking knew it. Where is he taking you? What are y’all doing?
Me: I actually have no idea
I laugh at the absurdity but realize I don’t mind.
Liam: That’s fucking cute, Bays.
My cheeks heat further and I shake my head in embarrassment.
Liam: Are you at work fretting over whether or not you should text him today?
Me: Nope
Liam: Liar
I huff a laugh.
Me: Fuck off
Liam: Just send the damn text, Bays. What do you have to lose?
Everything, I think. Fucking everything.
I don’t reply, but I find myself pulling up Lolly’s message thread, contemplating what I could send that wouldn’t make me sound ridiculous. Honestly, a knock knock joke would be less cringe than some of the shit that’s come to mind thus far. God help me.
I take a deep breath and prepare my thumbs for warfare.
Me: You’re on my mind, hope you’re having a good day.
I hit send before I can back out, my heart rate picking up as I start to panic, worrying it’s too much too soon.
I smile when the three dots appear, apprehension making my stomach turn.
Lolly: You’ve been on mine too. It’s good to know I’m not alone in that. My day is going fairly well, Mom seems to be in better spirits today and I’m really looking forward to a hot date I have this weekend.
Hot date?
Me: Oh, well that will be nice.
It’s the best I can manage, my chest squeezing so damn tight I feel like my ribs may crack.
Lolly: I think so too. As long as he doesn’t spill his drink on me, I think it could be more than nice.
I exhale a laugh, relieved at his words. Bailey, you fucking goober.
Okay, it’s a date. His words, not mine.
Me: Hopefully whoever he is, he’s on his best non-drink-spilling behavior. I could imagine that might put a damper on the evening.
Lolly: I have a good feeling about this one. I think it’s going to be perfect. I just hope he doesn’t forget to wear those slutty glasses.
