Chapter 06 CAM

My heart was a jackhammer inside of my chest, almost as though it was trying to escape the confinement of my own body, and I didn’t mind the sensation one bit. Bella and I skipped hand in hand up the hill, and I was all smiles because I couldn’t remember the last time I had so much fun.

Something told me that Bella wasn’t used to acting so silly, and that made my idea even greater. There’s nothing better than seeing someone outside of their comfort zone for the first time. I’ve noticed in the past that’s when most people’s true colors shine through, and I already liked Bella, but I wanted a deeper look. Plus, I really, really wanted to roll around in the grass with her.

At the top of the hill, I released my hold on Bella’s hand and faced her head on. “Okay. How should we do this? Do you want me to start out on top, or you?“

I resisted the urge to wink.

Bella’s cheeks grew rosy. She looked down at the grass beneath our feet and shrugged. “What do you usually prefer?“

Sheepishly, her eyes slowly moved up to mine.

I gasped. “Bella! You dirty girl!“

Bella bit down on her bottom lip, making me want to kiss her, and not for the first time that evening, either. “Hmm. I kind of like being on top, if that’s okay with you?“

This was already showing me more of Bella. Warmth exploded and expanded in my stomach.

Bella nodded. “I don’t really, um, know what I prefer. If you… know what I mean.”

At first, I was confused, and then I figured out what she meant. “Are you bi? Pan?“

I asked. “I don’t care, either way,“

I reassured. I figured by her telling me that she didn’t know what she preferred, she had never been with another woman before, but I didn’t mind that at all

Bella’s lips curved into a soft smile. “Bi.”

“Cool! So, you want to start out with me on top, and then we can roll?”

“That sounds great. I guess I’ll just… lay down,“

Bella said with a nervous laugh.

“Ready when you guys are!“

Sadie called out from the bottom of the hill.

I threw Sadie a thumbs-up, then placed my feet on either side of Bella’s hips where she laid in the grass. I crouched down, then gently moved down so that I hovered above her but wasn’t actually pressing on top of her.

“You can lay down,“

Bella said with a snort. “I’m tiny, but you won’t break me.”

Noted. “Ready to roll?”

“Let’s do it.”

I wrapped my arms underneath Bella’s back, then moved us a bit so we were on our sides. After rolling us over, the hill did the rest for us naturally. It wasn’t the most comfortable experience, but as we rolled and tried our damndest to keep our grips on one another, we laughed maniacally like two schoolgirls without a care in the world. Our heads bumped together at one point, but I barely noticed. Together, we were a blur of colors and squeals until eventually, our momentum slowed and we flopped next to each other in the grass, breathless by Sadie’s feet.

“That…was… somuchfun!“

Bella shrieked breathlessly.

Her face, fully brightened by the joy we just experienced, shined despite the sun beginning to go down. Her freckles stood out like a constellation in the night sky spanning across her cheeks, and I had to resist the urge to trace them out with my fingertips.

Instead, I looked up at Sadie. “How’d we do?”

Sadie blew a chef’s kiss out into the air in front of her. “A lot of the shots won’t be worth keeping, but the handful that I got? Phenomenal. I want to show you both, but I want to get to the pond right now. It’s about to be the perfect sunset.”

Bella and I stood up and brushed the grass off our legs. As we continued our journey to the pond, now only yards away, I readjusted my skirt which had twisted during our roll down the hill.

“How’s our hair?“

Bella asked Sadie with a smirk.

Sadie threw her head back and laughed. “Beautifully crazy.”

As we walked, I pulled a few stray blades of grass from Bella’s hair and smoothed it out as best I could. She did the same for me. No words were exchanged. Only curious, flirty smiles that made my heart leap.

I liked this girl. I liked her even more after our adventure on the hill, now that I knew she was down to follow through on my crazy, spur of the moment ideas.

It was funny, because I had no idea who Bella was. I didn’t know her age, what she did for a living, where she lived, her zodiac sign. Nothing. But I knew one thing for sure—I liked her.
