Chapter 12

Kendall hugged his flagpole as he bounced toward the car with a smile as big as Texas. The night had come to an end with Lakeside winning fourteen to nine. While most students were celebrating the win, Kendall was celebrating my volunteering placement.

“You have to sneak in some good things about me. Tell them how much I practice.“

He insisted.

I glanced at Kendall’s hopeful eyes in the rearview mirror and pulled out of the school parking lot.

“Coach Thatcher and I talked a lot about you. They had great things to say.“

I tapped my thumb over the steering wheel. “Honey, why don’t we run by Aunties house this weekend and grab your rifle for practice with the team?”

Kendall’s eyes widened.

“Really?” He asked.

“You won’t get better if you don’t have the space to learn.“

I chuckled. “And Kathryn is biased.”

“Yeah.“

Kendall laughed.

He pulled out his phone and excitedly messaged someone. I assumed either his friends or Kathryn. He had always been an Auntie’s boy.
