EPILOGUE

Five days later…

Xavier

It’s official. This was the best long weekend of my life. I haven’t left my bed except to get food, shower, and go to the bathroom since I got out of the elevator on Thanksgiving.

Melanie just left to go water her plants. She’s been naked in my arms for days. I was reluctant to let her go back to her apartment this morning. I don’t really want to go to work this morning, but I have no choice.

I roll out of bed and shower. My mind replays every second of my weekend. I can’t believe it. I’m one hundred percent falling for this woman I’ve known for less than five days. Fine, I sort of knew her before, but now…I feel like I’ve known her for years.

We spent hours lying in my bed talking. She’s smart, very smart, funny, and silly, but also serious. We shared memories of vacations and our families. Hell, I know her better after five days than I knew my ex.

I throw on my clothes and head out the door. I’m hesitant to get in the elevator, but after all the working out horizontally this weekend, I don’t think my legs will let me go down eight flights of stairs.

The elevator doors open, and I take a deep breath. I can do this.

Melanie

I get dressed and showered and head to the hallway glancing between the stairs and the elevator. I’m not sure my body can take the stairs after all the sex from this weekend, so I opt to tempt fate as I press the call button.

I’m surprised when it pings rather quickly and the doors slide open to reveal…Xavier.

He smiles at me. “Fancy meeting you here,” he says.

“I bet you tell all the girls that,” I reply with a wink.

He chuckles. “I might, but I only mean it when I say it to you.”

Something about his words makes me want to jump him again. What has this man done to me? I’ve never wanted someone this badly.

The doors slowly slide shut and Xavier holds out his hand to me. I look down and then up at him before taking his hand. His thumb rubs small circles on the back of my hand, it’s comforting. Well, until the elevator gives a lurch and stops.

“Seriously,” Xavier mutters as he goes to grab the phone.

I pull his hand back, and he looks down at me. “I mean…I’m not opposed to being late to work, and…we’ll have a valid excuse.”

“But…I don’t have any condoms,” he says.

I reach into my bag and pull one out. “I refilled…you know, just in case.”

Xavier grabs me around the waist and presses me against the elevator wall, bringing his hand up to caress my jaw. “I think I might be falling in love with you in this elevator.”

“I think an elevator is a great place to fall in love,” I reply with a smile before leaning up to kiss him. I have a sneaking suspicion that we are going to be very late to work today, but there’s no other place I’d want to be than right here with Xavier.
