Epilogue
Four months later
Jon
“Hurry up, son,” Jon called out to Wyatt. “Breakfast is ready.”
“K, Daddy!” Wyatt said, jogging down the stairs of Ben and Rob’s home.
Kyle, Jon, and Wyatt had been living with them in Westport for the past two weeks, commuting back and forth to Hawthorne Bluff while they put the final touches on their new home. It was Saturday, and they were officially moving in today. As soon as they all finished breakfast.
“Sowry.” Wyatt sat next to his grandpa. “Hadta pee.”
“That’s fine, son.” Kyle hid a grin.
After breakfast, they loaded up the last of their things into their new SUV and set off toward their new home. Wyatt opted to ride with Ben and Rob since the whole family was making the trek to Hawthorne Bluff.
As they drove through town, Jon noticed the new signage hanging over the door at the Artistic Alchemist. Matthew had taken time to do some construction in the new store and had coordinated next week’s grand opening with Kyle and Jon’s move to town.
“We should stop by and see how Matthew is doing with the store,” Jon suggested.
“Yeah. I really liked how it was shaping up the last time we stopped by,” Kyle said.
“Do you think Neil is gonna like being the company accountant?” Jon asked.
Since Neil had a degree in accounting, Matthew had suggested that Neil quit his job in DC and handle his company’s books, and Neil had readily agreed.
He was currently living with Matthew in Westport, and Matthew drove up to Hawthorne Bluff whenever he needed to during the renovations.
He and Neil would be looking for a place to live there soon.
“I think he’ll like it for the time being,” Kyle answered honestly. “A lot will depend on how well Matthew’s business does, I think. Neil needs a challenge at work, and as long as he has that, he’ll be fine. If things get too easy, he’ll be bored.”
“True,” Jon agreed. “You two are a lot alike that way. I guess if Matthew’s business continues to grow, it will keep Neil busy.” Jon turned onto their street and pulled into the driveway of their new home. As they got out of the vehicle, Ben parked behind them.
“Come see room, Pa!” Wyatt pulled Ben along. “You too, Papa!”
Kyle
As they laid in bed that night, Kyle turned to his husband and kissed him gently. “I can’t believe we’re finally here.”
“I know,” Jon said quietly. “When we found out what happened to Mike and Becky, it seemed like our whole world was falling around us. But somehow, we’ve managed to turn that tragedy into something hopeful. Like your dad said, a new beginning. For us and for Wyatt.”
“We’ve got love and family. That’s really all we need, right?”
