Chapter 9
Chapter Nine
EDGAR
He really likes coloring. He’s totally outside the lines but he doesn’t care, and neither do I. I only care about keeping him smiling just how he is. We go from unicorns to Disney princesses. Once his hand gets tired, he wanders over to Nova’s movie collection and picks up Cinderella.
“Like girl in coloring book.” He looks at the DVD more closely.
“It is. Cinderella. Want to watch it?”
His lips shift from side to side and he nods. “Ovens in there?”
“I don’t remember. But let’s see together.”
“Together.” He rushes to sit beside me on the bed, and I stack up pillows for us to lean back on after putting the DVD in.
Lifting the blanket halfway over our bodies, I reach for the remote on the small stool, and he scoots closer to me, resting his head on my shoulder.
His arm and wing settle behind my back, and I scoot up a little so he has more room.
“Popcorn?” He turns his face to mine.
“Sure. Give me a few minutes.” I kiss his cheek, and then hop off the bed to step through the portal.
“You’re back, and you didn’t bring my plates with you.” Franky opens the fridge, pulling out a can of Pepsi as I’m entering the kitchen. Luckily they haven’t gone to bed yet, and I didn’t walk in on anything I can’t come back from.
“Oh…forgot. I mean, they are only in your closet,” I deadpan.
He rolls his eyes, closing the fridge door and popping the tab on the can. Taking a sip, he leans one hand on the counter, his gaze following me as I place a bag of popcorn in the microwave.
“You watching movies together?”
“Yeah. He loves them. Popcorn too, apparently.”
“Apparently. So is my house your own personal concession stand now?”
I look back at him, before my eyes return to the spinning bag. “Tonight it is. And maybe tomorrow too. Too soon to tell.”
He snorts. “You can always bring him to watch movies here. We can all watch one together. Nova’s excited about hanging out with him again.”
“Soon. But not today.”
“Not ready to share him with anyone else yet?”
“Were you ready to share Nova with anyone when you first started seeing each other?”
He sips his drink again and makes a pondering face. “I’m not always wanting to share him now.”
Grinning back, I reach for the microwave as it beeps. “I can see that happening later with Polly too.”
“You’re really falling for him.” It’s a statement, not a question.
“I am. He makes it really easy.”
“That’s good. I’m happy for you.”
“Thanks, and thanks for the food too.” I close the microwave, shaking the popcorn in the air.
“Sure thing. I’ll need to come over and see what you have in your cabinets sometime.”
“Go ahead, but you’ll be very disappointed. I think there might be a three-year-old box of graham crackers in the back that still might be edible, though.”
His nose turns up. “Yeah, I’d definitely wait before taking Pollux over to stay at your place.”
I laugh, grabbing two cans of Pepsi before walking back to Franky’s bedroom. Nova is in the closet, looking at a shirt, and he jumps when I come up behind him.
“Oh, hey, Edgar. Did you get you and Polly some pie?”
“Not yet. Maybe you and Franky can bring the rest over tomorrow. We can have some together.”
His eyes brighten. “Yeah. I think we can do that. I’ll toss a shoe through the portal so you know when we’re about to come through. You know, in case you’re both indecent.” His eyes bat and I bite back a laugh.
“Yeah, I caught onto that, and thanks. Appreciate it.”
“See you tomorrow, then.”
“Yeah. Night.”
Walking past him, I slip through Franky’s hanging shirts and I’m back in Nova’s house in a matter of seconds. Polly is already watching the movie, so deeply invested with his hands curled under his chin as he sits only inches from the TV.
“I can see I took too long.”
He looks my way, appearing startled. “Sorry. Hit play. Accident.”
I chuckle, sliding next to him with the bag and drinks in hand. “I’m sure it was. Thirsty?” I lift a can of Pepsi to him.
“Drink?”
“Yeah. It’s bubbly.”
His fingers brush mine as he takes the soda from me. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, baby. I think we need one more snack for our movie.”
He fidgets with the can, hitting the top, and I pop the tab on it for him. His expression is grateful as he drinks from the opening. Some drips down his chin and he tilts his head back more, drinking faster.
“Not too fast, baby. Don’t choke now.”
I roll off the bed, grabbing one of my bags. Opening the top, I pull out two candy canes and two packaged Little Debbie gingerbread cookies. I’m back sitting next to him seconds later and he looks down at my hands, setting the soda down on a stool to reach for the candy cane.
“Excited to try those, huh?”
“Excited.” His tongue pokes out as he scratches at the plastic until it falls around the candy.
“It’s very minty.”
“Minty.” He licks across a row of stripes and rubs his lips together before sucking on the top. “Not sweet.”
“Not all candy is.”
He points to the cookies. “Sweet?”
“Yes. These are sweet.” I press one into his open palm and he opens it once the candy cane is fully devoured, biting off one of the arms.
I open mine and go for the head. Laughing, he bites off the legs of his, and we both sit back in the bed to watch the rest of the movie. I don’t want it to end. Reaching a movie’s ending means more time passes. The more time that passes means it’s that much closer to when I have to return home.
“Come back with me,” I say, tugging at his chin to force his eyes on mine.
“With you on Christmas.”
“Soon. In two days. Stay the week. I’ll bring you back. No one has to know you’re there. No one aside from us, Franky, and Nova.”
His eyes turn downward and he fingers the blanket. Silence stretches between us for too long, and when his eyes reach mine again, he says, “Go with you. Spend week. In your home.”
“My home is your home. Whenever you want it to be.”
His lips stretch, and that smile goes right to my heart. And I swear it doubles in size as he says, “You’re home to me. Always.”
My hand slides through the feathers on his neck and I run my fingers up into his hair. “I was thinking…why wait to go to my house when we can go now?”
He gets off the bed, picking up my bags. “Go now. Edgar’s bed can smell like me now.”
“Yeah, it can.” I get off the bed, turn off the movie, and help him carry my stuff through the portal.
Franky and Nova are in the back yard, sitting on the patio having their nightly tea, and we sneak past them.
Tomorrow, I’ll let them know to stop by my place instead of through the portal.
Slipping out the front, I link my arm with Polly’s, tugging him toward another place I want his scent.
He looks at my car in recognition and I open the door, ushering him inside after tossing the bags in the back.
I help him buckle up once I’m in the driver’s seat and hold his hand in mine while I start up the car.
“I can’t believe you’re here.”
“I’m here.” Lips lifting higher, he rolls down the window and sticks his head out. “No stars?” He lowers himself back in the seat.
“Not yet, baby. Not until nighttime.”
“Spend nighttime watching stars with Edgar.”
“Yeah. Spend the night watching stars and making love under them with Edgar.”
“Making love?” His face moves closer to mine, our shoulders pressing together.
“Sex with someone you care about.”
“Spend morning making love to Edgar too.”
Letting out a soft chuckle, I stroke his cheek. “Yeah, right under the rising sun and maybe in the snow too.”
“Snow.” He jumps in his seat. “Want to take Edgar in sky when snow.”
“Then in the sky we’ll go. Up in the air so high that it’s just you and me.”
“I love you and me.”
My heart skyrockets. “I love you too, baby.”
I don’t care how fast it is. When it’s there, it’s there, and much like Polly, it happened out of nowhere, right when it was meant to.
His lips capture mine and one of his feathers falls into my lap. I pick it up and place it on my dashboard. “So you’ll always be with me even when you aren’t.”
“You have my feather and I have your sweater.”
“You’ll have a lot more from me too after Christmas. I have something for you to take back before then too. Something you can actually wear.”
“Wear? Dress?” He sits up taller.
“How’d you know?”
His cheeks flush. “I like dress. Finian had dress.”
“Polly will have one to show Finian too.”
“Go home now so I can open present. Want to wear while making love under the stars.”
“It’ll be under the sunset first and then the stars. Then in my bed where I’ll wish you were after you leave.”
“I come back again.”
“As many times as you want.”
“Get visa, and never have to leave Edgar’s bed. Then you tell me another wish you have while I in your arms.”
“There wouldn’t be a need for another wish if I had you with me every night. I just need you.”
“And food.”
I laugh. “You and food. In that order.”
“Need you too. Need you to fit with me.”
“Right now?”
“Now.” He climbs into my lap and I recline the seat, sliding a hand up his back feathers.
“Yeah.” I look around, and once I’m sure no one’s around, I take out my cock.
He quickly moves forward, guiding me inside him.
He pushes himself down, moaning, and he reminds me exactly why he’s quickly become more important to me than food.
More important than anything else in the world—his and mine.
