Willow,
I won't be surprised if this is the first of my letters you actually read, because I know how much dancing means to you.
It's who you are. You were pirouetting before you could even walk properly, and I've always loved watching you do what you love.
It's the thing that made me feel alive. So, watching the joy drain out of you when you gave it up to look after me? That broke my grumpy old heart. Actually, scratch that. I’m young as hell.
Still, I never wanted that for you. I wanted you to live your teenage life, not be burdened by your sick dad.
I know this will make you sad. I’m sad writing it, too.
Not just because I hate writing letters, but because I know you will shut down when I’m gone and start blaming yourself.
You've always had trouble with your feelings because you care so much and, for some reason, have trouble letting people in.
I don't want you to be alone, so please let someone in.
Fall in love. Laugh. Live. Because the thought of you being lonely is worse than anything I have ever felt.
And one more thing—remember to keep going for the people in your life, even if it's hard sometimes. Shine on that stage you're about to step onto and show the world exactly how damn incredible my daughter is.
Make me proud, little one. I love you, and I’ll see you in another life.
