Chapter Fourty-one
“So they'll be arrested tomorrow?” I enquired, adjusting my head on Nathan's chest.
He ran his hand over my bare breast and played with my nipple absentmindedly. “Yeah. Then the court will give us a date, but I don't think it'll be too long before they're convicted. I want them in jail as soon as possible.”
I let out a breathy noise as he began of lay kisses on my neck, his hand travelling to my core. He moved so he was hovering above me and dipped a finger in. Squirming under him, I pushed my knees up and put a leg around his waist, moaning loudly.
“Darling, you're going to wake Oliver if you don't quiet down.” He told me huskily, his finger moving in and out of me.
Distracted by the pleasure, I nodded as another loud cry escaped my lips.
“Shh.” He reminded me as his lips met my neck again, kissing a spot that always had me arching my back.
“I thought we were done for tonight.” I feigned a protest but ran my fingers through his hair.
“I brought two condoms out for a reason, Love.”

I hummed along to the song playing from the radio, tapping my fingers on the steering wheel as I drove to Ivy's house. Checking my rear view mirror when I got to a red light, I made sure no strange car was following me before the light turned green and I continued on my way.
It's been a week since the incident with the watch. After that day, Nathan sped up his efforts to get Christopher convicted. We found the watch the day after, well, Nathan said we should find it so it can be used as evidence in the case but the listening device was disabled and we kept it far from our room.
Since that day, I've been looking over my shoulder none stop. I was worried that Christopher, no doubt knowing I didn't do what he said, would attack me or send someone to do it. I carried a taser in my purse for my protection and in the last week I've barely been out of the house. I only went out to pick Oliver up from school.
Nathan noticed this and forced me to call Ivy so we could spend some time together. He said it was unhealthy to be so 'paranoid'. I'm not paranoid just cautious.
Ivy lived in a condo in a pretty secure part of town and was excited when I told her I wanted to come over. She was already outside her door by the time I pulled into her driveway.
She greeted me with an excited hug and led me inside her home. It was a very modern place, almost reminded me of my house but without the tech stuff.
“So how are you and Nathan doing?” She asked me, placing a drink in front of me.
Just thinking about him made me smile. “We're doing good. What about you, do you have any man in your life yet, Ivy?”
She scoffed. “All the men I've met are terrible. Have you ever tried casual conversation with a lawyer? All they do is argue.” I failed at stifling my laugh. “Honestly, all he did all night was argue with me about whether fashion is a good career. I mean seriously, he kept saying how he worked at this big ass law firm and that a designer could never get to where he is and make as much money as him. You know the funny thing, he was wearing an Armani suit.”
I nearly spat out my drink bursting into laughter.
“When I had enough,” she continued. “I told him that if the person that made his suit thought like that then he'd be walking around butt naked. I was pretty sure his underwear would be from Calvin Klein.”
I shook my head at her as laughs escaped me. “And you just sat there after?”
“No!” She scoffed. “I walked out on him and I'm pretty sure other people there heard what I said 'cause most of them were close to spitting out their drinks.”
My laughter was interrupted when my phone started ringing. The bad feeling in my stomach I felt melted away when I saw Nathan's name as the caller ID.
“Hi, Love.”
“Hi, Nathan.”
“Have you gotten to Ivy's house yet?” In a way, I knew that was why he called. He didn't think I'd actually go through with it, joke's on him, I did.
“Yes, I have. You know you didn't have to call to me for that, right?”
“Of course not.” The sarcasm in his voice was obvious. “I just wanted to ask how long you're staying.”
I shrugged then I remembered he couldn't see me. “Not sure. I have to pick Oliver up soon and maybe she'll come to our place after. Is there a reason you want to know?”
“I was thinking about coming home a little earlier so we can have some nice, hopefully quiet time together.” I could hear the cocky smirk in his voice. “Would you like that?”
My face flushed, the memories from just a few hours of hitting me with full force. “That sounds g-good.”
He chuckled lowly. “See you then. Have a nice time with your friend.”
“Okay, bye, love you.”
“Love you too.”
When he hung up, my face was still red. Ivy was sitting not too far from me so I was pretty sure she knew who I was talking to.
“So,” She drawled. “What was that about?”
For some reason, my face got hotter. “It was nothing, he just wanted to know how I was.”
She hummed with disbelief. “And that's why your face is as red as a firetruck?”
I huffed, burying her face in one of her throw pillows while she laughed.
“Come on, you haven't been telling me much about you two, what's been going on? I did hear you tell him you love him, when did that happen?”
After telling her the story of our honeymoon that I apparently hadn't told before and a lot of squeals from her, we had gotten past it and were laid on the carpet laughing at yet another one of her failed date stories. She has a lot of them.
My phone pinged, telling me that it was almost time to pick Oliver up. Oliver was asleep when we got there so I carried him to the car while Ivy helped me with his bags.
An hour later, he was awake, fed and in the process of doing his homework while Ivy and I helped. We were disturbed by a loud thud on the door, it sounded like someone was trying to break it down.
The noise startled all of us and made Oliver latch onto me for protection. I had to distract myself from how cute it was so I could see who was at the door.
The second thud sounded just as I reached the screen, having pried Oliver off me. I looked to see that on the other side of the door was a brown haired man with rage filled dark eyes.
I could feel my heart rate and breathing speed up as the third thud rang through. I glanced at Oliver and Ivy standing by the couch, concluding I needed to keep them away from him.
“Ivy, please take Oliver upstairs and stay with him.” I urged.
She looked confused and worried. “What's going on? Who is that?”
“Please, just do it. Go to him room and distract him, I don't want him to know what's going on.” I saw the door move at the impact of hit. “Go now.”
“Mommy, what's going on? Who's that?” Oliver interjected fearfully.
I crouched to his level, gripping his shoulders reassuringly. “It's nothing, I just need to handle something. Why don't you go up with Aunt Ivy and show her your favourite toys?”
“But my homework, I'm not done.”
“You can finish it later, okay.” He nodded, looking slightly confused. “Now, go on.”
He took Ivy's hand and began walking out of the living room. Before they left, I was able to whisper to Ivy to call the police. She had a questioning look on but didn't stop and followed Oliver up the stairs.
They were barely out of the room before the door flew open. I took a step back as Christopher charged in, murderous eyes set on me.
“What are you doing here?” I mustered up the courage to ask. “You need to leave, now.”
“I am not leaving until you are dead!” He said, lunging at me.
I managed to escape his punch but he was able to get hold of my hair and pulled me back. Thankfully, I hit the couch and noticed my purse not far from my reach. I barely picked my head up when I felt his fist connect with my cheek.
I heard a click just as I gripped my taser from my purse. I felt him shove the barrel of a gun against my temple and gasped.
“I didn't want to kill you so soon but things change. I'll just have to kill the person holding the copy of your father's will.” He chuckled darkly as I let out a surprised sound. “You didn't know? There's someone else holding your dear daddy's will, only to reveal it if you die. They'll die soon. It's a shame though, someone else has to die so I can keep everything I've worked for.”
He hasn't worked for anything. With that thought, a sudden rush of adrenaline hit me and I swung my hand at him.
The taser hit his leg and he howled in pain, a bullet shooting out. I made a grab for the gun, it fell close to him. I barely reached it before a hand came around my throat, pulling me back as it clenched.
“You are not getting away that easy.” He pinned me to the floor, straddling my hips as another hand came to tighten the grip on my neck.
My hands went to pry his off but, of course, he was too strong for that. All I could do was dig my nails into his hand so hard that I drew blood.
“Where's your husband now? Why isn't he here to save you?” He taunted. “Oh, that's right, he doesn't care, nobody does. I am going to kill you today and nobody will give a….”
He was cut off by a vase crashing on his head, making his let go of me. I gratefully took a long breath as Ivy helped me up. Christopher groaned and tried using his arms to get up but was stopped when a plate hit his head.
I noticed Oliver standing next to him when he shouted the word. “Die!”
Christopher was back on the floor, unconscious. It took a few minutes for us to get over our shock and that was enough time for the police to show up.
The man was in handcuffs in two minutes and dragged out of the house. I pulled Ivy into a tight hug, expressing my thanks countless times.
“Hey! I helped.” Olly pointed out as he joined the hug.
I laughed but thanked him nonetheless. If it wasn't for him smashing that plate of his head, Christopher might've still been conscious.
The police took our statements and told me that my husband was outside but they hadn't let him in. The moment Nathan came in, he crushed me in the tightest hug ever.
“I'm so glad you're okay. Wait, you are okay, right?” He drew back, taking my face in his hands. “Oh, your cheek, it's bruising, let's get some ice on it.”
I nearly laughed at how freaked out he looked but I knew it was only because he loved me. I decided to assure him that I was fine. He didn't believe me though and forced me into the kitchen and an icepack on my face.
“How did you know to come home?” I stopped his rant about how much he hated Christopher.
“Your heart monitor.” He replied. “I guess you were really scared when you saw him because your heart rate was dangerously fast. Also, I got a call on my way saying that something was going on, it was from Ivy, Oliver gave her my number.”
“Oh.”
He came to sit on the bar stool next to me. “But, are you sure you're not hurt anywhere else?”
“Yeah, I'm fine. He didn't hit my anywhere else.”
He let out a breath, accepting my answer. A comfortable silence enveloped us before Ivy spoke up.
“Lys, wasn't that your uncle?” She questioned and I nodded in reply. “Why would he do that to you?! He wanted to kill you!”
Knowing that she deserved it, I decided to tell her everything. At the end of my story, she had tears streaming down her face and was holding me almost as tight as Nathan. I told her the plan to put in jail with Nathan adding that the police were headed to his house to arrest Rebecca and Hailey.
“I hope they're put away soon.” She commented.
“They will.”
