12. Drix #2

“Okay. Give me one second and I’ll try to get that done for you.”

“Thanks.”

“Just you?” she asked.

I looked at each of my siblings.

“I’ll sit in the dressing room,” Chandler said.

“If you can get me at the barrier too, that’s where I want to be,” Rome said.

“Okay. I’ll be right back.” Allison excused herself.

The three of us filed into the dressing room. Chandler and Rome took seats while I walked around the room, taking everything in.

Part of me missed performing but not being on the road constantly.

“Do you want to post this?” Chandler turned her phone toward me to show the picture she’d apparently taken of me and Myome.

It was just the two of us standing together in the dimly lit hall. Myome held her flowers and microphone while I held her hips and we stared at each other as we spoke. She had a huge smile on her face and I couldn’t lie, I was looking down at her lil pretty ass like I wanted to break her down.

“Yeah. You can send it to me.”

“Alright.”

Chandler sent me the picture and I posted it to my page with a microphone as the caption then sent it over to Myome.

Allison came back for me and Rome a few minutes later with two security guards who walked us through two side doors and got us beside the stage so we could stand in front of the barrier.

Radiant Reverie came out damn near instantly and I saw when Myome saw me and Rome. She smiled widely and waved at me quickly before adjusting her microphone in hand and looking at the crowd.

I crossed my arms over my chest while I looked up at the stage.

My eyes stayed on Myome and Rome and I bobbed to the beats as they played.

I couldn’t understand for a second why Twin had been worried.

She was good in the studio, better than most actually, but on stage she was a mothafuckin’ monster.

She was charismatic, looked beautiful, and sounded clear.

I was worried she’d get winded a few songs in but her stamina was good.

I’d seen her rehearse but watching her dance full out was different, especially because she was going even harder with a live audience.

When they finished, I whistled, clapped, and cheered. The lights went down and Rome and I headed back toward the side door. When I pushed it open, I was met with screaming and yelling.

I instantly noticed it wasn’t the happy kind and scanned the crowd of people rushing around. My eyes gravitated toward Myome immediately and my heart dropped to my fucking feet.

Myome was laid on the ground. Charm, Allison, and two security guards were all around her. I jogged over and hit my knees immediately. I put my fingers to her pulse to verify she was breathing and looked at Allison who was already on her phone calling for help.

“Yo.” I ran my hand up and down her throat and felt for her pulse again. “Come on, Yo.” I ran a hand up and down the side of her face. I felt like I was going to be fucking sick. ”Come on, Yo.”

My brain short circuited and I didn’t even realize time had gotten away from me until the first responders were lifting Myome onto the stretcher. I hopped up with my hand still holding hers. Even though I already knew she was still breathing, it was reassuring to me.

They let me ride in the ambulance with her and I deflated as soon as Myome’s eyes opened. She immediately panicked, her head darting from one side to the other before she looked at the light above her. I watched her chest move faster while she gasped lightly.

“Ay. You’re good. I’m right here.” I leaned further into her line of sight. “I’m right here,” I assured her.

I squeezed her hand and she squeezed back.

“Berlin,” she said quietly.

I nodded. “Just lay there and don’t move, alright? Just let them check you out. I’m right here.”

She ran her thumb along the back of my hand briefly then squeezed and closed her eyes. Little tears slipped from her eyes and I reached over with my free hand to wipe them.

Her breathing slowly evened and she seemed alright by the time we got to the hospital.

“We need to run a few quick tests on her.” The first responder blocked me from following them through the double doors.

My eyebrows knitted together.

“You want me to fuck you up?” I asked seriously and ignored how his eyes widened. “If you think you’re about to keep me from my wife, you’ve got life fucked up.”

“Sir, we just need to—”

“Berlin!” Chandler yelled as she closed in on me. “What’s going on?”

“I don’t know. This bitch won’t let me in the back so I’m about to stomp a hole between his fucking ears.”

“What’s up?” Rome walked up with Charm and closed the space between him and the first responder. “You want me to knock him out?”

“We’re not knocking anyone out,” Chandler said. “How long will it take for us to get an update?”

I dragged my eyes from the first responder when I heard Myome’s name. My head jerked in the direction of the receptionist who’d just mentioned my wife and I made a beeline for her, not bothering to even listen to the first responder anymore.

“Yes. Myome Ross was just brought in and—”

I cut her off by reaching over and hanging up the call. Her head jerked back and she looked up at me.

“I’m Myome’s husband and next of kin. Don’t call nobody and update them on what’s going on with her,” I said simply.

“Her paperwork states—”

“And I’m stating that I’m her husband,” I repeated.

“Legally—”

I cut her off a third time. “Bitch, I was doing my best not to call you a bitch but what the fuck did I just say?” I grabbed my gun from where it was tucked in my pants and set it on the counter. “Pick that phone up again and see,” I warned.

Myome wasn’t particularly close with her family, so I wasn’t sure if she’d want them at her bedside while dealing with whatever she had going on. I wasn’t about to let someone take that choice from her. When she woke up, she could call and text whoever she wanted. It could wait.

“Berlin!” Rome jogged over to me. “Myome is awake. They took blood and her blood pressure and asked questions but said you can see her now.”

“Alright.” I looked the receptionist up and down.

“Please don’t make me come back up here and show out.

” I tucked my gun back. “Myome is awake. That means she can call whoever she wants. Don’t make no calls on her behalf or I’m gon’ have my sister flip you on your back and this bitch gon’ get a real good lawsuit.

You hear me?” I waited for the woman to nod.

“Thanks.” I tapped the counter with my knuckles then turned to face Rome. “You know what room she’s in?”

“Yeah. She’s in one oh three.”

“A’ight. Give me a few and I’ll update y’all. Keep your phone in your hand,” I instructed as I headed for the double doors.

I damn near jogged through the hall looking for Myome’s room. When I pushed the door open, I automatically smiled seeing her sitting up in bed.

“Berlin?” She pouted and sniffed.

“What’s up, Yo?” I walked over and she tilted her head back for me to plant three slow kisses to her forehead, my eyes shut while I thanked God that she was okay. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay.”

“Then why are you crying?” I collapsed into the seat beside the bed.

She shrugged.

“I’ve never passed out before and it was scary.”

“I get that.” I slid closer to her and put a hand on her knee, lightly rubbing up and down. “So, how are you feeling for real?”

“My head hurts and I, uhm, may have a sprained ankle from how I fell when I lost consciousness. But it looks like I’m okay for the most part. They took blood and they’ll let me know if anything looks weird, but I think I’m okay.”

“Alright.” I nodded.

Myome gave me a little fake smile and I scoffed and let my head fall forward, resting on the edge of the bed.

“Are you okay, Berlin? Do you want a checkup too?” she teased.

I lifted my head slightly to look at her. I gave her a forced smile.

“You scared the fuck out of me, Twin,” I confessed.

“I’m sorry,” Myome said quietly. Her little smile dropped. “I’m sorry,” she repeated.

“I’m just glad you’re okay.” I kissed her hand and let my head fall back on top of it.

Her free hand went to the top of my head and she softly scratched my scalp with her nails. I let my eyes flutter shut. It felt amazing and the closer I was to Myome right now, the better.

I deserved that kind of shit right about now after seeing her laid out on the ground and thinking the worst.

I lifted my head to glance at her.

Even while not feeling well she looked beautiful. I licked my lips while my gaze drifted over her, trying to make sure she actually did look okay.

I wasn’t taking my eyes off her anytime soon.
