Chapter 10 #5

I watched as Kash picked up a small bottle of shampoo and poured it into his hands. He began to wash Motley’s hair as the two talked quietly to one another. My gut told me they were talking about me, so I leaned closer to listen.

I could barely make out Kash’s voice. “I’m telling you, she’s more understanding than you think.”

Who was he talking about? Wait, was he actually talking about me? But if so, what would I be so understanding of?

I leaned closer to hear better while Motley rolled his eyes. “I don’t know. It’s hard to imagine someone easily willing to share their significant other. I mean, it was fun, don’t get me wrong. But I-I just don’t think I could do that all the time. I just—it’s not my thing, Kash.”

His thing? What thing? What were they talking about?

Kash delicately scrubbed Motley’s hair. The shampoo suds were changing from white to purple, presumably from his hair dye. “So you’re not going to give it a chance? Even if it meant it was the only way to be?—”

Motley shot forward and almost knocked Kash over. “Enough, Kash. We had our fun, but that’s all it was. Fun. Besides, you know I can’t keep sharing.” Nothing they said made any sense.

Kash stepped back and stood up as he shook the suds from his palms. “Damn it, Motley. We were so close.”

What are they even talking about?

Motley stood abruptly and glared at Kash.

“Maybe you were close to getting everything you wanted. But not me. That’s not what I want.

” Motley stepped closer to Kash. “You know what I want.” The two were so close.

So oddly close. And the look they held, the way they were so intently locked on one another, was similar to the one they had earlier tonight. When it was just them.

I watched Kash and Motley closely while they stood there.

Something was hanging heavily between the two men.

Something… intense . But what? What could be between them?

Was it some dark secret? Something only they knew?

But what? What would make them look at each other in such a way?

What could be so intense that—wait. ”Kash.

” My whispered breath must’ve been louder than I anticipated, because both men snapped their heads towards the bathroom door.

I quickly took a step back, but it was too late.

Motley swung the door open as purple-tinted bubbles trailed down his cheeks and the color drained from my face. “Oh, um, hey, Twila. I’m sorry, did we wake you?” He looked back at Kash, who seemed just as shocked as I was.

I shook my head. “No! I–I—” God, I felt so unexpectedly embarrassed. Like I had been caught doing something I shouldn’t have been.

Kash stepped forward and hugged me. “I’m sorry, babygirl.

I didn’t mean to wake you.” He pulled back and sweetly brushed the hair from my face.

God, he was always so gentle with me. So sweet and perfect.

But the look he had in his eyes told me something was off.

Different. This wasn’t the same Kash who reached his hand out into the crowd and pulled me on stage.

He wasn’t the same man who picked me—chose to love me.

The rockstar who spent so much of his time teaching me how to play guitar so I could shine next to him. This wasn’t him. But why?

“I-I didn’t mean to interrupt—” Why were my eyes beginning to water? I didn’t do anything wrong!

Kash’s eyes widened. “Interrupt? No! Baby, you’re fine.

I was just helping Motley wash out that damn hair dye, that’s all.

Man, you should’ve seen how messy we were after everything.

” He smiled at me with that intoxicating smile he always had.

God, why was he so beautiful? So fucking perfect?

“I mean, well, look for yourself.” His eyes fell down my naked body, and I nearly shivered.

I almost didn’t hear what he said. Kash grinned and pointed at me.

I made a face. “What?” Kash walked me past Motley and towards the mirror.

He wiped the steam from it, and I nearly busted out in laughter.

Motley’s purple hair dye was all over my face and hair, alongside some of Kash’s stage makeup and smears of my lipstick.

“Oh my gosh, I’m such a mess!” I turned to face him.

“You boys must’ve been really messy too, huh?

” They exchanged an odd look. Motley tried to hide a smile as he hung his head and dripped shampoo onto the motel bathroom floor.

Kash rubbed my arms and completely avoided my question. “Why don’t you get in the shower and clean yourself up?”

I looked back at Motley and pointed to the shampoo in his hair.

“What about his hair?” The two men exchanged a look.

“I mean…aren’t you still washing it? And with those curls, you can’t just shampoo it.

He needs to rinse and properly condition them.

” The men exchanged a look. “Oh, I know! Why don’t we just shower together?

That way, we can all help each other out?

” Motley raised a brow, and Kash smiled.

“We can both help Motley, then you two can help tackle this mess.

I mean, you're both responsible.” I motioned to my body with a soft laugh. “You can help me. Together.”

I wasn’t sure why, but I felt like the only way to get Kash to join me was to invite Motley along. And for some reason, I wanted to see them together. Just a little longer. I wanted to see if that wandering little thought, tucked back in my mind, was actually possible.

Kash looked at Motley. “Well, I mean—” Motley shrugged and smiled. Kash exhaled and turned back to me with a grin. “Let’s not waste anymore water then.”

The two men stepped into the shower and held the curtain open for me.

I dropped the sheet and wiggled my way in.

As I helped rinse the now purple shampoo from Motley’s hair, I couldn’t help but to watch them, noticing every single move the two men made.

The way they had this flawless energy of openness and authenticity between them.

Most people wouldn’t just casually shower together, even after a steamy threesome.

But they did. And they weren’t just in the shower together.

They were tending to one another. Something only people on a certain level of intimacy would do.

There was something about seeing them together that just seemed to click everything into place.

They weren’t just familiar like friends. They were more than that. Much more.

It all makes sense now.
