Chapter 2
“Who are you?” I say, meeting the surprised, gaped gaze of a man I’ve never seen before.
His eyes are a piercing emerald green, and he looks young, but not that much younger than I am.
And there’s something about the way he holds himself that screams confidence, but I can see the slight tremor in his jaw as he tries to search for the right words.
We just stare at each other for a long moment—him, attempting to gather his thoughts, and me, oddly captivated.
My chest feels tight, like I can’t take a deep enough breath.
My head starts to feel lighter, and I have to forcibly stop myself from reaching out and running my fingers through his light brown hair.
I shake myself from my mind. The fact still remains: there’s a stranger I’ve never seen before loitering around my trailer, and he shouldn’t be here.
“Hello?” I get impatient just staring at his dumbfounded eyes. “I’m calling security.” I turn in a huff to head back inside, anything to tear myself away.
“Don’t! I’m with the studio. They told me to come by today. Did no one tell you? I’m your new assistant.” He rambles, stopping me in my tracks.
Oh…right.
He holds up a plastic badge and I snatch it from him. Scrawled beneath his picture is the name “Miles Albrecht” and the word “assistant.”
Miles.
I commit the name to memory and return “Miles's” badge. His cheeks are washed in flame red and the urge to tease him is staggering. “They know I’m not usually into men, but you’re pretty enough.
” I didn’t think his face could turn any redder, or that I’d be able to break his seemingly unbreakable confidence, but I can tell he’s turned to jello from my words and I smirk, “stay there. I’ll be out in a minute. ”
I close the door behind me, abandoning Miles outside.
I take in a deep breath, and try to shake the image of the man just on the other side of that door from my mind.
His silky brunette locks, his long, black lashes, his captivatingly green eyes.
He looks like a celebrity himself—sharp, masculine features that I don’t dare to call ‘sexy’.
The tips of my fingers tingle as I imagine what his smooth, rippled abdomen would feel like as I ran my hand under his shirt from his waist to his pectorals.
I imagine he’d have a mole or two on his chest—dark brown and alluring.
Would he have a lot of hair? Or is he groomed?
The sudden flood of thoughts shocks me to my core.
He’s a man—I shouldn’t be having these types of thoughts about a man.
“Alright. Let’s go, Miles.”
Miles.
The name slips out, buttery smooth and sweet as honey. I want to feel this sensation again, continue calling his name just to feel it again. But I refrain.
My eyes continue to follow him as we go through the morning.
Watching him lean against things as he waits around, like he’s never been on a movie set before.
I track his eye movements, searching the crowds, looking around as if he’s trying to find something.
There’s a nagging urge in my chest that I can’t seem to get rid of.
Every time he passes by, my muscles tense to reach for him, my eyes are always searching for him, and my mind always goes to him when there’s a second to spare.
He’s quiet, barely having said anything to me besides a “Mr. Ellis” here and there.
I could listen to him say my name forever.
His deep, silky voice is an angelic hymn to my ears.
“They’re ready for you, Kane.” Joseph grabs my attention. I stand from my canvas chair and begrudgingly pull my focus away from Miles and back to my job. I close my eyes, forcing the room away until there’s only the character. I have a job to do, and I can’t blow it for some guy—he’s just a guy.
