Chapter 15

FIFTEEN

Getting readjusted with the ins and outs of my business had been more consuming than I’d expected.

It wasn’t until I made it into my home that I realized just how much I’d been on the go and just how much I missed Ever.

It had been three days since I’d seen her beautiful face, and I refused to go another.

“Hello?” Her sultry voice appeared on my line.

“What are you doing?” I wanted to know.

“Just finished eating dinner and got the girls in their pajamas.”

“It’s still early,” I told her as I checked the time. It was only seven-thirty.

“I know. I like to clean them up right after dinner so that we have the rest of the night to do nothing.”

“Or y’all could come over. I want to eat dinner, too.”

I knew we’d agreed to eat dinner together as much as possible, but the time for it hadn’t come. We were both extremely busy trying to figure out business.

“You sure?”

“If you’re asking me if I’m ready to meet the girls, I am. Everybody get ready. I’m about to come scoop y’all up.”

“No. You don’t have to come get us. I can drive to your place. I have to take them to school in the morning. Essence starts daycare with Emorey.”

“That’s cool, too, but I can drop them off in the morning if you’d like. I need to holler at my moms, anyway. I ain’t seen her in a week.”

“We can take them together. We’re about to head over.”

“Aight.”

I ended the call with Ever and cut the oven off. The chicken that I was planning to cook could wait. My dinner was on the way and it included Ever and whatever she’d cooked.

I ran upstairs for a quick, five-minute shower. It was all I’d have time for before Ever was at the door with her girls. The last thing I wanted was to smell like outdoors when they approached.

I adjusted the temperature of the water and stepped into the shower the second it was warm enough.

The large beads of water massaged my shoulders as I allowed the deeds of the day to roll off my back while trying to figure out how to convince Ever that she belonged in my space more than anywhere else.

I knew she was on her independent, don’t want to live with a man shit , but she didn’t have to.

I understood what her healing process required, and I refused to interfere but coming home to an empty house every night when there could easily be two giggling girls waiting at the door for me was absurd.

It didn’t have to be every day or every night, but a few out of the week wouldn’t hurt.

If she didn’t want it to be my home so soon, then I was definitely going to get her apartment situation squared away before the week was out.

Shit, within the next forty-eight hours because I knew it was possible.

I’d gotten so comfortable sleeping next to her for four days straight that I wasn’t getting much shut eye now that she wasn’t around. I was exhausted, which is why I called them over. If they didn’t come to me, then I was taking my ass to Lyric’s.

When the doorbell sounded a few minutes after my shower, my stomach growled.

It was as if my body understood who and what was at the door waiting for me.

I turned on the lights that led to the door to lighten the place a bit.

Aside from the small traces of light from the setting sun, the place was black.

Anxious to see the people behind the door, I opened it.

The sight behind the door was one that I could never get tired of.

There was little Emorey, whom I’d had the pleasure of meeting already.

Then there was a slightly taller, slightly bigger version of Emorey who happened to be another mini Ever.

Essence. She was the prettiest. So was Emorey.

And, Ever. Shit, I was starting to wonder if I really wanted a boy or another one of the three people standing in front of me.

“Emorey, Essence. This is Luca, Mommy’s boyfriend.”

I appreciated Ever’s honesty. She’d told me that lying was something she despised and chose not to do it herself. I figured that meant when it came to her children as well.

“Luca, these are the girls.”

“I’ve met this one,” I shared with Ever who was puzzled by the revelation. “At my mom’s center.”

I bent down and scooped Emorey into my arms. Then, I turned to Essence and watched her twiddle her thumbs in front of her.

Knowing how important it was to ask permission to invade a child’s personal space because there were so many adults who didn’t think they had the right to have personal space, I began speaking to Essence.

“Would you like to take the express ride to the movie theater?”

She nodded, granting me access. I got a bit closer, turned around, and patted my back for her to climb on. When she was finally situated and comfortable, I stood and shifted Emorey in front of me. With both girls, I began tugging down the hallway.

“Chooooo. Chooooooo.”

In a fit of laughter, the girls were delivered safely to the couch where I had the lights off and the television turned on, waiting for them to make a selection so that I could make it happen.

“Do you have popcorn, Luca?” Essence asked.

“As a matter of fact, I’ve got plenty.”

“Caramel?”

“Caramel. Sweet. Buttery. Plain. Whatever you want. And if I don’t have it, I can always get it.”

“Always?” Essence followed up with.

“Always,” I confirmed.

“I’ll take caramel. Emorey will, too.”

“OK. You know how to work this television, Essence?”

“Ummm hmmm.” She nodded.

“Good. Your mom and I will get the popcorn ready while you two choose a movie. That’s alright with y’all?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Yes, sir!” Emorey repeated after Essence.

I handed her the remote and looked up to see where Ever had gone.

I found her over in the corner against the wall observing with contentment on her face that couldn’t be mistaken for anything else.

Using my head, I signaled toward the kitchen where I wanted her to meet me.

She nodded in return, letting me know she understood. She took off immediately.

“Be right back,” I told the girls before following behind her.

“Hi, Mommy,” I finally spoke to Ever once we were alone in the kitchen.

“Hi, Daddy,” she returned with a smile. That unleashed the beast within me.

My hands slid up her shoulders. The right one wrapped around her neck as the left lowered until her ass was in my palms. I stuck my tongue down her throat as she moaned into my mouth.

My dick hardened on contact with her skin.

I cupped her ass in the black pajama pants that hugged her body just like I wanted to.

“I missed the fuck outta you,” I admitted. “Come in here.”

“Come where, Luca?” She looked around.

“Right here.” I pointed to the pantry.

“We can’t.”

“Yes the fuck we can.” I pushed her forward as she began to chuckle.

We made it inside of the walk-in pantry and closed the door behind us.

“Bend that shit over,” I instructed as I lowered my shorts.

Once she was bent over the rack in front of her, I pulled her pants and panties to her ankles. I wanted so badly to eat her box from behind but we didn’t have time for that shit. So, instead, I spat into my hand and rubbed the head of my dick. Less than two seconds later, I was sliding into her.

It had been three… whole… days.

We both sighed in harmony.

“I missed you so much,” Ever whimpered as she began to throw her ass backward.

She knew what the fuck she was doing, and she knew I wouldn’t last long if she continued doing it. I wasn’t mad at her. Not only did the shit feel good, but it would lessen our chances of getting caught by the girls. Time wasn’t on our side, and we needed to make this quickie really fucking quick.

“Shiiiiiiiiit,” I barked. “That’s it, Ever. Put that pussy on a nigga.”

“Ummmmmmmmmmm. Feels so good.”

She wasn’t playing fair. The sound of our skin smacking and her moaning was driving me insane. At any second, I was going to blow.

“That pussy gone make a nigga nut. Where you want this shit?” I already knew the answer, but I wanted to hear her say it — every fucking time.

“Inside of me,” she begged and that’s exactly where she got it. Inside of her.

I let loose inside of her as she’d requested.

My entire body stiffened and locked until my balls were empty.

Exhaustion hit me heavy at that moment, and I knew for a fact that I probably wouldn’t be making it through the entire movie.

I leaned forward and kissed Ever’s neck before pulling out of her.

“I’m not leaving you hanging. I got you whenever we get a minute to ourselves.”

“I’m happy you’re eager to make me cum but that was more than enough. That one was for you. Some will be for me. Others will be for us both. But don’t feel any type of way because I’m still trying to catch up to your lead, so don’t sweat it.”

“Kiss me.”

She wrapped her hands around my body and connected them behind my back as she looked up and got on the tips of her toes. She still wasn’t tall enough to meet my lips, so I assisted her by lowering my head. Ever quickly pecked my lips and then lowered to pull her pants up.

“I’m going to go clean up and change my panties. Can you handle making the popcorn?”

“Yeah. I got it. Go ahead. I’ll meet you back in there in a few.”

One more peck of the lips, and she was gone. As soon as she disappeared around the corner, my cell rang. I didn’t recognize the number on the screen, but that had been happening a lot in the last few days. They were usually connected to people who Laike saw fit to have my contact information.

“Who is this?” I answered, cutting straight to the chase.

“Wow. Is that really how you answer your phone?” the female asked.

“Either you’re answering the question or I’m hanging up.”

“OK. OK. So grumpy. It’s Kasey. We met at Oat + Olive.”

“Yeah, I remember. You’re a little too late. Go ahead and delete the number, Kasey.”

“Wow. You move fast.” She chuckled.
