Chapter 28
Chapter
Twenty-Eight
MERRI
Movie night had sounded like a great idea, a way to take our minds off things and just relax for a couple of hours.
But as soon as the lights went off and the movie started to play, my mind would not stay focused on the story.
I just couldn’t shake the feeling that we were running out of time before everything came to a head.
And if that was the case, I didn’t want to spend the last handful of peaceful nights I might have with people who were still mostly strangers when I could be with my mates.
No shade to the girls—and Remi—they were lovely, but they just weren’t what my heart craved.
So, with freshly painted nails and my PJs on, I ran back to the men I craved.
I hadn’t expected to find them mid-conversation about me when I walked through the door, but here we were. They all looked at me, not a shred of guilt or worry on their faces as I waited for them to answer my question.
“What happened to movie night, Red?” Chaos asked, crossing the floor and tugging me to him.
I shrugged. “I missed you.”
His arms tightened around me, and he pressed a kiss to the top of my head. “We missed you too.”
A part of my brain wanted me to immediately protest that I’d barely been gone an hour so that couldn’t be true, but .
. . I’d experienced the same thing. How could I doubt his words when they mirrored my own experience?
I guess even girls with fated mates had to unlearn years of crippling self-doubt.
We were literally bound by destiny, but I still needed them to remind me they loved me every single day.
“So, what are you going to tell me?” I asked, knowing that if I didn’t give them a nudge back toward my original question, they’d distract me until I forgot all about it.
“We’ve been making plans,” Grim offered, rising from his chair and casually strolling to the bar where Sin stood with a tumbler of whiskey.
“For what?”
“Our future,” Sin answered with a smug grin.
Given what we were about to face, that felt incredibly optimistic. “Don’t you think you’re getting ahead of yourselves?”
Malice shook his head. “We’ve already got three out of the four weapons. Then all that’s left is to plan the attack. Really, it’s just a matter of time now.”
I couldn’t ignore the flood of relief his words caused. They were all so sure we were going to win, and after everything they’d collectively experienced, that certainty carried a lot of weight.
“I can’t lie, I love the confidence.”
Chaos’s fingers trailed down my spine and then under the hem of my top so he could brush them along my bare skin. “We’re very confident. We have every reason to be.”
“And what plans have you made for your future?”
Sin cleared his throat. “Our future, kitten. All of us.”
“Even Lucifer?” I asked with a raised brow.
He made a face and rolled his eyes. “Yes. Unfortunately.”
“I’m all ears.”
Chaos’s fingers tightened just enough around my waist to make me squirm.
“We’re going to give up our mantles after this is over,” Grim said, not hiding anything. I could feel his honesty in every word.
They promised they’d never keep anything from me again, and here they were, proving they’d keep their word. It meant more than they could ever know.
As his statement settled, my chest tightened with worry. If they gave up their mantles, what would that mean for them? Who were they if not the horsemen?
“But . . . can you do that? What happened to the ones who came before you? Wouldn’t that mean you’d die?”
Chaos squeezed me closer. “If we choose to. But the man who gave me his mantle walked into battle willingly afterward and was killed by mortal means. He didn’t die instantly.”
Sin moved into my view, giving a little nod of confirmation. “I asked my guy about it. He told me he didn’t have plans to go off into the sunset just yet, but he was looking forward to a life enriched with meaning because he knew the days he had left were limited.”
“So you’ll become mortal?”
“As far as we know,” Malice said.
The thought of any of them dying filled me with immediate panic.
“Hey, it’s all good, kitten. A life with you means more to us than anything. We don’t want to have to worry about ushering in the end of the world after fighting so hard to prevent it. We just want to grow old with you and make some babies.”
That sounded . . . pretty fucking great.
“I can’t believe you guys would do that for me.”
“Why wouldn’t you? We would do anything for you, hellcat. Anything.”
A ball of emotion lodged itself in my throat, and suddenly I was blinking back tears.
“Hey now,” Grim murmured, pulling me out of Chaos’s hold and into his lap as he claimed a seat on the sofa. “This was supposed to be happy news. Why are you crying?”
My lower lip trembled as I struggled to find the words to explain. “I . . . I just never thought anybody could love me this much. No one has ever chosen me before.”
He stroked the tips of his fingers down the side of my face, sending little bolts of lust and comfort through my limbs. “Then I guess that makes us equal, because love was never something I thought I’d know either.”
Annnnd the tears just kept coming.
“Look at our pretty little mate. Pregnant and emotional. What are we going to do with you?” Sin teased, sauntering over to where Grim still held me in his lap. He dropped onto the cushion next to us and leaned in, claiming my lips as he wiped my tears away with his thumbs.
“There’s a lot going on, okay?” I said after he pulled back.
“Quite right,” Grim murmured.
“Sounds like you need a distraction, baby,” Sin whispered against my lips as Grim trailed kisses along the back of my neck.
Malice cleared his throat. “I do believe it’s my night to provide said distraction.”
Sin’s chuckle washed over me. “This will just be the appetizer. Don’t worry, Mal, it’s still your bed she’ll be sleeping in tonight.”
“Well, in that case,” he mused, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt as he joined us.
Grim’s palm slid under my shirt and up until he cupped my bare breast, fingers teasing my nipple and sending tingles straight between my legs. Meanwhile, Sin tugged at my silky pajama bottoms until I was a sexy Winnie-the-Pooh.
“Always so ready for us,” he murmured, reaching between my thighs.
A soft moan left my lips as the two of them worked in tandem. The sound of a zipper had my eyes landing on Mal as he pulled his cock out. My mouth watered at the sight of him. Long, thick, and already dripping.
“Why are you still dressed?” I asked Chaos, my voice breathy as Grim’s hands grew more insistent and Sin pulled my legs apart as he dropped to his knees in front of me.
“I’m simply appreciating the sight of you being pleasured. Sometimes I like to watch.”
Sin positioned me so I was spread wide across Grim’s lap, legs draped over his thighs, open to both of them.
“Lift her up for me, Sinclair,” Grim ordered.
“You got it.” Sin’s hands wrapped around my waist, and he lifted me a few inches off Grim’s thighs.
I heard the sound of a belt buckle, the rustle of fabric, and then Grim’s touch returned to my breasts as he helped Sin lower me down onto his straining length.
“Oh, fuck,” I rasped as he filled me in one long glide.
“You take him so well, hellcat,” Malice crooned in approval. The hitch in his breath told me he mimicked the glide with his hand. He stroked himself in rhythm with each slow roll of my hips over Grim.
“Stay still, baby. I need to taste you while he fucks you,” Sin said, his words tight as he stared at my exposed pussy.
“Fuck,” Chaos gritted out as Sin dove forward and did just that.
The combination of Sin’s talented tongue and Grim’s deep thrusts had me seeing stars. I was awash in sensation, from the way Grim pulled and plucked my nipples to the way Sin held my hips still as he sucked and licked at me, to the sounds of Chaos and Mal as they fucked their own fists.
“I’m close,” I cried.
“Come for us, wildflower,” Grim grunted. “Come so I can fill you with my seed so everyone knows who you belong to.”
The filthy words were all I needed to go hurtling over the edge. Malice and Chaos came with me, their moans joining mine. As my inner walls squeezed Grim’s length, he let out his own sexy whimpers, and then he was coming too.
His climax spurred a second wave of my own, this one nearly blinding in its intensity.
“Oh, fuck.” My fingers had slid into Sin’s hair at some point, and now they tightened just enough to pull the silky strands.
“Ungh,” Sin said as he stiffened, his face still buried in my cunt. “Yes, baby. Fuck, I love it when you lose control.” Then he let out a soft curse as he sat back on his heels. “I really need to stop wearing pants around you.”
The unexpected statement startled a laugh out of me. “What?”
“I keep ruining them.”
“Well, I suppose that’s something I should be proud of. Making an incubus come in his pants.”
“Kitten, when it comes to you, I’m pretty sure you could make me come by crooking your finger.”
Before I could even move to get up, Malice shoved Sin away and scooped me into his arms. “Thanks for that, lads. If you don’t mind, we’ve got a sleepover planned. See you in the morning.”
I let out a giggle as he carried me off to his room, offering a little wave over his shoulder at the disheveled and sated horsemen we were leaving behind.
