Chapter 10 #2
Luc shook his head and sighed heavily. “One, she wanted the status of being the girlfriend of the president of a motorcycle club. She thought if she dated me, then she could be in charge of the women of the club. Little did she know that we didn’t operate like that.
The only time my ole lady would be in charge was if there was any strife among the women.
She would hear them out, then come to me.
This chick thought what she said was the law in the club. ”
“Can you give any examples?”
“She demanded the others pay for her when they went out. I’m talking her nails, her hair, her clothes.”
“Oh my.”
“Yeah, that lasted about a week before I shut that shit down. I told her if she couldn’t afford something, then she didn’t need it.
She flipped a switch and tried to decorate the bar to make it into a posh downtown nightclub with neon and glass.
She even fired my contractors and tried to hire her own to get what she wanted. ”
“Oh my.”
“Yeah, again, I shut that shit down. When we argued, she said that as my wife, she had a say in everything I did. I told her that she wasn’t my wife, and never would be.
That I was only dating her, and she didn’t have any status in my life.
If she didn’t like it, she could hit the road.
She was gone three days later because I refused to apologize.
” Luc shook his head sadly. “It’s not that I’m sad, it’s just that over the next three years, during the entire build of the bar, I had four more women exactly like the first one.
When I finally woke up and smelled the coffee, I made a vow that I would never date again until I found a woman that interested me. ”
“What’s that mean?”
“Those five women I told you about?”
“Yes? What about them?”
“They were sent in my direction by my brothers in the club, or my parents. They thought I was lonely and wanted me to be happy. What they didn’t figure out until I told them to stop was that the women were gold diggers and only wanted me for what I brought to the table.
Oh, and they expected my job to stop at five at night along with me footing the bill for everything in their lives, even their past bills. ”
“That can’t happen if you run a bar and restaurant.”
“Exactly, and the last one, I sued because I caught her on video dipping into the till. She tried to say that because we were dating, I couldn’t do that.
” He shook his head and looked off into the distance.
Again, it was almost two minutes before he said anything.
He looked her directly in the eyes as he spoke.
“What I’m about to say will probably have you running away screaming, but I have to say it.”
“What’s that?” Lilith asked around the lump in her throat at his words and expression.
“First, I like you, Lilith, I mean I really like you. I want to see if we can have something between us. It’s finally warming up, and I’m going to be getting the bike out this next week.
I know you work during the week, so do I.
I guess I’m asking if you would like to go for a motorcycle ride with me next Sunday? ”
“I would love that, however, what would I wear?”
Luc grinned. “Warm clothes.”
“I know that, but what?”
“Do you have a leather jacket?”
“No.”
“Okay,” Luc nodded and lifted up on one hip as he pulled out his wallet.
After taking a few seconds going through some business cards, he handed it to her.
“That’s a local motorcycle shop that one of the club members owns.
If you have time this week, go there and tell him what you need.
Tell him you’ll be riding on Lucifer’s bike.
He will probably immediately leave you to call me, but I will confirm it. ”
“Why would he need to call you?”
“Remember those women I told you about?”
“Yes.”
“None, and I mean none of them rode on the back of my bike. They had to earn that position. They hadn’t by the time their true colors shone through. There’s something about you, Lilith, that I know is true. Anyway, talk to Gator. Do you have sturdy jeans?”
“Yes.”
“Sweatshirts?”
“Yes.”
“Helmet?”
“No.”
“Okay, then you’ll need sturdy boots. I’m not saying it will happen, but if we crash, then I don’t want your feet messed up while wearing sneakers. Gator will let you know what works. You’ll need a helmet, again, he’ll hook you up with the proper one to your liking. Then a leather jacket.”
“Got it,” she said with a nod, dancing in her seat with excitement.
“I need to tell you something else. This might make you not want to ever see me again, but I swear on my family’s life, it is the God’s honest truth.”
“What is it?”
“If anyone, not just you, but if anyone wrongs me, I will get even. Starr and the guys from the club call it Lucifer’s revenge. I call it justice. I will not do anything illegal, but I will make sure you pay for your actions.”
“Like that guy who tried to sell your land? And the woman who stole from you?”
“Exactly. I’m not saying this to be a bastard, but I don’t believe that anyone should take advantage of someone else without paying the piper.”
“I totally understand.” She nodded and they both looked up when the barista approached them.
“Excuse me,” she said hesitantly.
“Yes?” Luc asked.
“We’re about to close in fifteen minutes. I was wondering if you were done with your coffee.”
Luc and Lilith looked at each other in shock, looked at their watches then back at the barista.
“We’ve been here for four hours?”
Yes.”
“Holy shit,” Luc said as he drained his coffee, and watched as Lilith did the same. “We’re sorry, we lost track of time.”
“Don’t worry about it. I thought you would want to know that we’re closing.”
“Thank you,” Lilith said as she stood, and because she still had time, she went to the ladies’ room. When she returned she found Luc standing at the entrance and she went to meet him. Out on the sidewalk they looked at each other with a grin.
“Would you like to go someplace for dinner?”
“I would, but unfortunately, I think I should get home. I have to get ready for work in the morning.”
“I understand,” Luc said with a nod and with his hand on the small of her back, he escorted her to the parking lot and waited for her to lead the way to her vehicle. She unlocked it, and turned to him.
“I don’t go into work until two on Thursday, could you call your friend and tell him I’ll be in around ten.” At his frown, she giggled. “Motorcycle gear.”
“Oh, yeah, I can do that.” He nodded, then put his hands on her hips, and leaned in to kiss her. It was several minutes before they broke apart. With his forehead on hers, he sighed heavily.
“Until next Sunday.”
“What time?”
“Can I call you during the week?”
“Yes, but not before nine, The library closed at eight, but by the time I get home, changed and get something to eat, it’s after nine.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” He kissed her again, then stepped back.
He stood there in the parking lot until she pulled away, then with a gigantic grin on his face, he went back to his truck and headed out to the bar.
On the way, he used the feature in his truck to call Gator to tell him about Thursday.
He found himself whistling after he hung up with his friend.
