Chapter 26 #2
“Yes on both counts. The DNA results came back that he is indeed Wilson’s biological son.
He was born in Utah from one of the women that was kidnapped and held for Wilson’s sick fetishes.
It turned out that someone called in suspicious activities and when they were raided, Wesley and his mother were taken away, along with several others, and in the mêlée Wilson slipped away into the night.
He resurfaced several years later in your town, and then you did what you did, and he was finally caught. ”
“Was Quinn’s mother contacted?”
“Yes, but she flat-out refused to know anything about him. She said she had done her parental duty of getting him to the age of eighteen, but since he was now an adult, she washed her hands of him. Because what she said was true, there wasn’t anything we can do.
We can’t force her to come get him. In my personal opinion, he’s right where he belongs. ”
They all nodded, and when Fred had to leave for his next case, Lucius and Lilith went out to his truck. They settled in for the drive home. He looked at her with his quirked brow. “Would you like to stop and get lunch someplace?”
“Not really, I am hungry, but I would prefer my favorite burger at Hell’s Coffin.”
Luc reached over, picked up her hand and kissed the back of it. “I like the way you think, Woman.” He held her hand for the entire drive, only releasing it when he slowed down to pull into the parking lot of the bar.
Once inside, he directed her to a table that had been set already, and in less than five minutes, both their meals had been delivered, along with their usual drinks. They ate in comfortable silence, and when Luc pushed his empty plate away, he saw she was done and took her hand in his.
“I don’t know if you know this, but two years ago today, we sat in these very same chairs. It was the night Starr brought you here and we were talking about paranormal activity.”
“Has it been two years?”
“Yes, and tomorrow will be our second anniversary of our first date at the café.” He released her hand and rubbed them on the thighs of his dress slacks.
He stood, then quickly dropped to one knee, reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the little black box that had been burning a hole in his pocket for months.
“Lilith, I think I fell in love with you the first night I met you. It started as a slow burn, and at every turn, no matter what life threw at either of us, you stood tall and proud. That made me love you even more with each passing day. Will you marry me so we can continue to weather what life throws at us?”
“Yes,” Lilith said on a sigh as she held out her shaking hand.
As soon as the ring was on her finger, and she was in his arms, the bar erupted in applause.
Lilith turned to see all the club members there, along with their partners, and several regulars.
She turned back to Luc with a frown. “You planned this?”
“Yes, the only thing that hinged on this was whether you wanted to eat here or in town.”
“Well, since I love the burgers here, I made the right choice.”
They hugged and kissed, then they watched as Starr started pushing her way through the crowd. When she reached them, she blew a horn left over from the New Year’s Eve party several months ago, and placed a small cake on the table. Then she ran up to Lilith and gave her a gigantic hug.
“I only have one question,” Starr said with a grin.
“What’s that?”
“Where will your vacation be this year?”
“About that,” Lilith said and turned toward Lucius. With an impish smile, she asked, “What do you think of Denver, Colorado?”
“It’s a city in a state, what’s there?”
“The Stanley Hotel, that’s where they filmed ‘The Shining’.”
“When do we leave?”
They hugged one another and it was several minutes before they broke apart and paid attention to the others milling around the bar. They spent the rest of the afternoon filling the others in on the sentencing of the three people who had terrorized them for their own gain, which they lost.

Later that night, as Lucius lay there trying to get his breath back from the intense lovemaking he had just had with Lilith, he reached out, laid his hand on her naked thigh, then turned on his side to stare down at her.
“How do you feel?”
“Exhausted.”
“Thank you, but no, how do you feel about what happened earlier today. Not our engagement, but what took place at the court house?”
“Relieved.” She turned to face him. “I know everyone, you included, always said that Lucifer got his revenge, that things you did in the past was always Lucifer’s revenge.
I never saw it, because I wasn’t hanging out with you back then.
I will admit, there had been times that I was extremely frustrated and wanted to take matters in my own hands, but you always talked me off the ledge to wait and let Karma come knocking.
It finally did.” She sighed heavily, shook her head, and nodded.
“I can honestly say that I don’t know if it was actual revenge that we got on those three or if Karma is real and it came after them.
All I know is that they did me wrong, and now look who’s going to be locked behind bars the rest of their lives, and who is free to do anything they want?
” She giggled when he chuckled, and after they pulled the covers up, they snuggled in each other’s arms. It was the first restful sleep either of them had since all this had started, knowing that their enemies would never be able to come after them again.
It was a great way to start a new life with the man she loved.
