CHAPTER 5 #4

Suddenly, the newly reattached hand shot out and grabbed my wrist. We both shot our gazes down to it in surprise. Cam tried to pull away but the grip was unrelenting.

I couldn’t stop the laugh that burst from me. Didn’t even try to.

“Seems it still has a mind of its own after experiencing a taste of freedom,” I said, still chuckling.

Embarrassment colored Cam’s face, but he seemed transfixed on where his hand was holding me as he stood and followed me back out into the living room.

He held my wrist the entire way and, as I moved to step away, I expected him to release me to sit on the sofa. He didn’t. We awkwardly stood there as I looked between his face and where his hand still clung to me.

“I’m just going to make us some hot cocoa,” I insisted with an amused laugh, yet the hand refused to budge.

His face scrunched apologetically, cheeks blushing adorably pink. “Sorry, it won’t...” He sighed heavily.

So, he just came with me to make that cocoa.

Once we were both settled back onto the sofa, fingers now interlaced instead of his hand holding onto my wrist, we got comfy as I turned the movie back on.

Perhaps he scooted a little closer to me.

Maybe I leaned further into him until our shoulders were pressed together.

He was warm and the heater had yet to kick on, so the house was a little chilly.

Setting my mug down to curl my legs up, I pulled the blanket from the back of the sofa and draped it over both of our laps.

We watched the movie for a bit before the need to speak to him bubbled up again. Really, I just wanted to hear his voice.

“Today was wonderful. Perfect,” I mused, eyes still staring unfocused at the screen.

His fingers tightened around mine as he leaned forward and set his mug of cocoa down onto the coffee table.

“Almost perfect,” he said softly.

Before I could question his meaning, he had leaned over into my space. So close that his breath mingled with mine. He smelled sweet and chocolatey, making my mouth water. He paused for a few seconds, seeming to wait for me to pull away or refuse him. To tell him I didn’t want this.

I did neither.

Instead, I leaned into him.

The first touch of his mouth against mine nearly undid me entirely.

I moaned against lips that were shockingly soft, the ring in his bottom lip contrastingly cold enough to make me shiver.

The kiss was hesitant at first, a shy brushing of lips.

But when he released that sigh through his nose, as if he had been waiting just for this moment, I melted against him completely.

He released our twined fingers only to bring his hands up, grasping the sides of my neck possessively. His thumbs rubbed at the underside of my jaw, tilting my head back and pulling a deep groan from my throat.

The sound seemed to ignite something in him. The sweet and innocent kiss turning into something bolder, hungrier. More desperate.

His tongue tickled at the seam of my lips which parted on a gasp, granting it entry. That slick heat invaded my mouth, but my tongue met his own, feverish and absolutely willing.

A foreign sensation, hard and smooth, had me pulling back, just enough to catch my breath and ask,

“Your...” I swallowed hard, breathless. “Is your tongue pierced?”

He leaned back in to resume kissing me, and I could feel the smile of his lips against my own. He hummed in confirmation and fuck if that wasn’t the hottest thing. Then that tongue was back in my mouth, exploring with eager desire.

This kiss was like nothing I had experienced before, and I’d had my fair share of kissing, touching, and everything in between.

I knew without a doubt that Cam’s kiss would ruin me for all others.

Not that I wanted anyone else after him.

Although I barely knew him, I knew that it was him I wanted forever. He was it for me.

His voice, his laughter, his gaze, his touch. I needed it to be mine. All of it. All of him. Needed it like I needed water or oxygen. The taste of him and the cocoa on his tongue was consuming me. His touch and breathy gasps driving me wild.

Though I always wished it was true, I had never truly believed in love at first sight or the concept of soul mates.

But Cam was making me rethink everything.

Everything I had known and previously believed.

He was shaking my foundation, my very core, echoed in the trembling of my heart and shaking of my hands grasping for him, pulling him close.

His hands roaming up to tangle into my hair were undoing the very fabric of my being.

His tongue was whispering silent promises into my soul.

And when our lips parted just enough to allow fresh breath into our lungs, I longed to get lost within those dreamy blue eyes.

I desired to dive into those depths and float within them, within him. I wouldn’t even come up for air.

When we broke apart after long moments, I pressed my forehead against his and inhaled deeply. He would become the oxygen I breathed.
