Epilogue
I paid a visit to Zhao Yin.
Ever since Wang Ba was sent into my place, people in the industry stayed tight-lipped about that special Sanatorium.
Some said it was a special prison that locked away criminals the law could not touch.
Others said it was the entrance to hell—enter and never leave, die and never live.
Countless people had checked the hospital's records.
Even the best hackers came back empty-handed.
My background as Director was the most mysterious of all.
Besides the name, no one knew where I came from, why I opened this hospital, or how I kept those madmen under control.
It was February, reverse spring cold, frost still unmelted.
Zhao Yin took off his coat early.
The moment he stepped into the company, dozens of eyes shot toward him at once.
Some held sympathy, some disdain, some open gloating.
He kept his face calm.
I was already waiting in his office, sitting in his seat and flipping through papers.
When I heard the movement I turned around.
The instant our eyes met, goosebumps rose all over him.
One glance nearly sent him bolting for the door.
From head to toe, inside and out, my calm eyes seemed to see straight through him.
He wrapped his clothes tighter.
"Li Qingshan," I said, giving only my name.
No titles. No identity.
It was absolute confidence that no one would fail to know me.
"Hello, Director Li." Zhao Yin held out his hand. "I am Zhao Yin from the Third Hospital. At the earlier exchange meeting we still..."
I ignored the polite small talk.
I pulled out a sheet of paper and laid it lightly in front of him. "Was Wang Ba's certificate issued by you?"
He swallowed.
"Wu Pan, Chen Youzhi, Chu Yu, Liang Jiahao..."
Sheet after sheet floated onto the desk without a sound, yet each one crashed in his ears.
Every dirty deal he had done over the years was pulled up by the roots one after another.
"Were these people's certificates also issued by you?"
My tone stayed flat. No joy or anger could be heard.
It was only a question.
He gritted his teeth. "These people's paperwork was reasonable and legal. Everything went through regular channels. I don't know why Director Li is suddenly asking about all this."
The words "legal" and "regular" rang out solid.
But the tremble in his voice had already betrayed him.
"Heh heh."
I gave a soft laugh. "Whether these people have shady business, you and I both know perfectly well. Stop circling around it. I came only to tell Zhao Yin to prepare himself and move over to our hospital for treatment. For the sake of being colleagues, I guarantee Zhao Yin the most thorough care."
Zhao Yin shot to his feet. "I'm not crazy! Why should I go to your place!"
I leaned back and watched with interest the anger flooding his face.
I spoke softly.
"Right. You're not. But I can make you be. Just like you did."
No one would doubt my words.
Zhao Yin’s face went blank.
