Epilogue

Kol

Oscar and I run side by side, chasing the van through the city streets. There’s no license plate on it. All I know is that it’s a Mercedes. That’s a start. We lose it somewhere near the riverfront.

“They were Legs’s men, right?” I ask.

Oscar is too out of breath to answer. But the answer is yes.

I just watched Mads and Locke get taken right in front of us.

They were maybe ten feet away. Oscar was on his phone ordering a car.

I was trying to stop myself from going after Cadi and biting her exactly in the same spot Oscar bit Mads.

They were talking about bites and marks, and I thought I was going to pass out.

My ears have been ringing for the better part of an hour. I wasn’t operating at 100%.

I wasn’t paying attention.

My reflexes were non-existent.

I feel like I have no skin and all my organs are on display. I feel like I lost a limb. Two limbs. My beta and my alpha have been taken. I’m about to go feral.

I’m out of time.

It’s happening.

I don’t realize I’m screaming until Oscar shakes me.

“You need to breathe.” He shows me how to do it. Suck in a breath and hold it. Slowly let it go. He guides me through until I’m calm. His hand is on my chest, and his other hand is on my shoulder.

“Think about it, Kol. We know where they are taking them. To Salt Port. We need to be smart. We have to bond with Cadi to make us strong. Then we will go get our brothers back. Do you trust me?” I have tunnel vision, and all I see are his earnest, sure eyes. I nod. Yes, I trust him.

Drool drips down the side of my mouth.

I’m not waiting any longer.

Even if I dark bond Acadia. I’m finding her, and I’m biting her. Right now.

“No, Kol!”

I hear Oscar yelling as I run from him.

I have no more time left.

She’s mine.
