Chapter 123
Dario
Outside The Hospital
Our Mercedes turned left out of the parking lot, and we glided down the side street that bordered the side of the hospital.
“Go slow, but get ready to floor it,” Lars instructed Renzo.
As soon as we pulled even with the front of the building, we saw them:
A long line of black SUVs parked in the fire lane.
I couldn’t see much because of the tinted windows, but there were two men in the front seat of the Cadillac closest to us.
The driver looked like a Camorra thug – shaved head, short beard, football jersey.
I barely even registered the man in the passenger seat.
“It’s them!” I barked.
“Stay behind me,” Lars told me calmly, “but let them see you.”
He lowered his car window –
Then pointed his Glock out the window and fired repeatedly.
BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM!
“GO!” Lars yelled.
As Renzo roared off down the street, I turned and watched out the rear window.
The Cadillac’s windshield was a spiderweb of cracks, but it must have been bulletproof, because I could see the driver jerking around in his seat and staring at us.
“Hopefully that got their attention,” Lars said as he rolled up the window.
