Chapter 3

Brooks

My angel’s cheeks turn pink, but she shakes her head.

“Listen, I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but I want no part of it.”

I hold up my hands. “No game, Angel. Promise.”

“Then why chase me?”

“Why not?”

She glares, looking fucking adorable. “You’re doing it again.”

“I came after you because I didn’t want our night to end.”

That’s the truth, too. This Angel caught my attention—something that hasn’t happened in a long fucking time—and I want to see where the night goes with her.

“Unfortunately for you, my Uber is almost here.”

“At least give me your number.”

She bites her bottom lip and looks at her friend, who is nodding. I don’t know who the chick at her side is, but I like her for urging my angel to give me her number.

She huffs. “Fine.”

She rattles it off and I enter it into my phone. I send her a text right away, and her phone dings.

She looks at the screen and snorts. Actually snorts.

“You want me to save your name as Kitten?”

“Sure do, Angel.”

“Whatever,” but she’s smiling.

“Are you certain I can’t talk you into staying? We can have a drink or two.”

“The bar is about to close,” she says.

“We can use the minibar in my room.”

Her cheeks turn pink at the mention of my room, and, fuck, my cock takes note. I shift, hoping she can’t tell that I have a semi right now.

“As tempting as that sounds, I really need to go. I have class tomorrow.” Her nose crinkles. “Well, technically later today.”

Fucking hell. It never crossed my mind to get her age.

“I’m going to be devastated if you don’t mean a college class.”

Her lips lift into a smile. “I’m twenty, if that’s what you’re asking.”

“It is.” I pretend to wipe my forehead. “I was worried there for a moment.”

“How old are you?”

“Thirty-seven. Is that a problem, Angel?”

“Because you’re practically ancient? No.” She gives me a cheeky grin. “I’m joking, by the way. I don’t think you’re ancient.”

“You know what they say about age, don’t you?”

She shakes her head, and I move closer. So close that her breasts brush against my chest and I get a whiff of her perfume. It’s flowery, with a hint of something sweet. It also makes me want to smell her neck while I pound into her.

“With age comes experience, and I’m very experienced, Angel.”

Her cheeks are rosy now. “Use that line a lot?”

“You’re the first.”

I mean it, too.

She hums under her breath. “I find that hard to believe.”

“Why is that?”

“Because you’re Brooks the Body McGruff. People probably throw themselves at you all the time.”

“They do,” I agree. “But you’re the first I’ve chased after.”

“Let me guess. It’s because I told you no in there.”

Well, shit. It kind of is. Don’t get me wrong. I was interested in her before, but as soon as she told me no, I knew I wanted to get to know her better. No isn’t a word I hear very often because of my status. I’m a professional wrestler known around the world for my character in the Olympus Wrestling Federation. I’m about to break out in the film industry. I’m the Face of The Defiant God Brotherhood. People have chased after me for years. But not her.

Who knew someone telling me no was such a fucking turn on?

“Let’s say that definitely got my attention.”

“See? That’s what I thought.” She glances somewhere past me. “My Uber is here. I need to go.”

I put my hand on her arm, stopping her.

“Promise you’ll at least text.”

She waits a beat before nodding. “I can do that.”

Relief courses through me. I could find her if she didn’t text me, but I’d hate to go from zero to sixty right off the bat. Thank god she’s going to make this easy on me.

“Be safe getting home, Angel.”

She doesn’t answer and hurries to her friend’s side. Her friend has a shit-eating grin on her face and says something that makes Hannah blush. Hannah shakes her head and pushes her friend toward the waiting car. When she slides into the back seat, she meets my gaze. I give her a slow smile that she returns. The crazy thing is that I stay out there long after she’s gone.

Lifting my phone, I send her a text.
