Chapter 6 #3
When I entered the bedroom again, Mel was still asleep, so I eased onto the bed and curled my body behind hers, then wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her to me.
I felt something shift deep within me as the connection I’d always felt with her since the moment we met snapped into place.
I breathed her in, as if absorbing some of her sweetness and light would banish the shadows in my soul.
Her silky nightie had ridden up as it always does when she sleeps, so the only thing between her delectable ass and my bare cock was a pair of tiny panties.
The blanket shifted when I moved, exposing her bare shoulder.
Knowing how she hated to be cold at night, I pressed a kiss to the soft skin, then pulled the cover back over her and tucked it under her chin.
I slid my hand up over her body to cup her tit, loving how it fit so perfectly in my hand.
My cock thickened against the curve of her ass, and I had to tamp down the urge to thrust against her.
This is what I should have been feeling last night.
Melanie. My gorgeous, sexy, incredible wife, not some random stripper straddling my lap and shoving her oversized tits in my face.
She stirred restlessly, then shifted, dislodging my hand in the process.
I thought about waking her but knew I shouldn’t push it.
It was late – well, early – and she was sleeping so peacefully.
It would be a dick move to wake her up now, especially since I had essentially ghosted her all weekend.
Besides, I knew that I need time to shore up my defenses before facing her, or else I’d give myself away.
Telling her serves no purpose. It will only hurt her.
Those two phrases had become my own personal mantra since Mitch and I had talked about it at the hotel.
Although opposed to the idea of it at first, the more I thought it over, the more convinced I was that he was right after all.
It wasn’t fair to assuage my guilt by telling her what had happened, especially since it would never, ever happen again. I’d make damned sure of that.
I carefully removed my arm from her body so that I didn’t disturb her, then rolled over onto my back.
I stared at the ceiling, willing my erection to subside so I could get some sleep myself.
It felt like it had been weeks since I’d made love to her, and I realized with a jolt that I couldn’t remember the last time we’d done anything aside from a quick blowjob.
Not that Mel’s blowjobs aren’t fucking fantastic – they’re by far the best I’ve ever had – but there’s nothing like sliding inside her warm, wet pussy, and feeling her body mold around mine as if she were made just for me.
Even after all these years, the connection between us when our bodies are joined together is so much more than physical, and it’s still the best feeling in the world.
I shifted on the mattress, trying to ease the tight, throbbing ache in my balls .
Christ, our dry spell must have been even longer than I remembered if just thinking about being inside her made me hard enough to nut.
Things were clearly going to have to change.
Regular date nights. Frequent sex. No more strip clubs, my conscience whispered, that fucker determined to have the last word.
That reminder did the trick. My hard-on deflated in an instant, replace by a lead ball of regret and dread in the pit of my stomach.
She deserves better, I thought, vowing there in the darkness that I would be better, and that I would make it up to her somehow.
Melanie was still sleeping as I quietly got ready for work the next morning.
It was a little before six, but I wanted to get an early start at the office since my unexpected day off on Friday had thrown a wrench in my schedule.
Mitch had called me an hour or so into the workday to let me know about winning the trip.
Luckily, my boss, Dave, hadn’t had a problem with me taking off at the last minute.
“Sure, but you’ll owe me lunch one day next week.
Oh, and if you win big at the casino, you have to promise me that you won’t quit,” was his smart-assed response when I’d run it by him.
Still, I didn’t want to take advantage of his easy-going nature, so it was going to be a long day at the office as I tried to catch up.
The scent of roasted coffee beans greeted me as I walked downstairs and toward the kitchen. I pulled my travel mug out of the cabinet, then filled it with the life-giving brew, before adding more sugar than usual. I had a feeling I would need an extra energy boost to get through my morning.
I scribbled a note for Mel, then propped it up next to the coffee maker where I was sure she’d spot it, before pulling on my coat and gloves. As soon as I opened the door to the attached garage, a blast of cold air from the unheated space hit me, making me curse under my breath.
“Fucking Indiana winters can kiss my ass.”
I slid behind the wheel of my pride and joy, hit the button on the remote to open the garage door, then fired the engine.
I loved the sound of the resulting rumble, and it made me smile in satisfaction every single time.
There was nothing like having that much horsepower under the hood.
The drawback was that the rear-wheel drive and low ground clearance made it a bitch to drive in the snow and ice.
Still, this car was my second-favorite girl in the world, next to Melanie, of course.
My gloved hands tightened on the steering wheel as I thought of the woman sleeping upstairs, blissfully unaware of what I’d done.
I dropped my head as the weight of my guilt slammed into me for what seemed like the thousandth time.
It was a feeling I was going to have to learn to live with though, one way or another.
With that resolve firmly in place and my guilt tucked away deep in my soul where it would hopefully never see the light of day, I put the car in gear and backed out, carefully maneuvering around Mel’s car.
Noticing at the last second that her windows were frosted over, I parked and got out, grabbing the ice scraper from my trunk to clean them off so she didn’t have to.
Freezing my ass off for her was the least I could do in my quest to fix what I’d so nearly destroyed.
