Chapter 38 I Have a Secret Recipe
Clara Bennett walked over calmly, her expression composed.
Mason Reed now understood her plan.
She had captured compelling evidence of the school bullying, and these high school students were all over sixteen, legally capable of bearing criminal responsibility.
Once the evidence was submitted to the police and a lawsuit was filed, these students would carry a lifelong stain.
Clara looked at them with a cold gaze.
"You've bullied more than just Ethan, haven't you?" she said deliberately. "I've already called the police. They'll investigate everything when they get here."
Everything was under Clara's control.
The bullies were taken away by the police and interrogated according to standard procedures. They confessed to the bullying, and the charges were upheld, resulting in a satisfying outcome.
Clara finally got justice for Ethan.
"Third Brother, your wife is really something," Chase Ye said, impressed, after hearing about it from his friends in the police department. "She's calmer than you in a crisis and knows the law well. That was a smart move!"
Mason smiled lightly.
Since they got married, Clara had been constantly surprising him. However...
He hadn't contributed much to this situation, but at least he had knocked those high school students down in the end.
Given Clara's nature, she should reward him well, at least by preparing a lavish meal for him.
But she hadn't shown any sign of doing so.
Moreover, he felt she had been noticeably cooler toward him lately.
She hadn't mentioned him sleeping in the bedroom again.
He had hinted at it a few times, and with Clara's intelligence, she must have understood his intentions, but she pretended not to get it and brushed it off with various excuses!
As a result, he was still sleeping on the couch...
Mason sighed, his expression cold, his brows furrowed in thought, so distracted that he didn't even notice the cigarette burning down to his fingers.
"Hey, Third Brother!" Jasper White quickly snatched the cigarette from him.
Mason snapped out of it.
Jasper had never seen Mason look so dazed before.
"What are you thinking about?" Jasper waved his hand in front of Mason's face. "By the way, there's news from Central City again. Ha... your uncle mentioned to your grandfather that they want to choose a princess consort for you!"
Mason's eyes darkened.
He ground the cigarette butt into the ashtray, his expression turning fierce.
"Everyone in your family is a handful," Chase said worriedly. "If you ever go back one day, Clara..."
"She won't go with me," Mason said softly. "We're from two different worlds; we can't merge into one."
Chase and Jasper exchanged a look, understanding each other.
It was obvious that Mason liked Clara.
But he always kept a stern face, claiming that their marriage was just a cover for him, that he only felt a sense of duty toward her.
He used these excuses to deceive himself, but Clara had already taken root in his heart. When the day came for them to part, he would have to uproot her from his heart, and no one knew how he would handle that pain.
After a moment of silence, Mason suddenly asked, "Do you know any good gynecologists?"
The two men stared at him, looking as if they'd seen a ghost in broad daylight.
"What... what?" Jasper tried to hold back a laugh as he looked Mason up and down, raising an eyebrow in disbelief. "Third Brother, you're amazing! Is Clara pregnant already?"
Mason's face darkened, and he rolled his eyes.
Chase frowned. "Can't you let Third Brother finish his sentence?"
Mason cleared his throat and said in a low voice, "I just wanted to ask what's good for a woman to nourish her body."
Jasper couldn't hold back anymore and spat out his brandy, laughing uncontrollably.
Chase looked at him as if he were an idiot for a long moment.
Mason's face grew darker.
Lately, Clara had been looking at him with doubt and fleeting melancholy, seeming anxious and uncertain.
He couldn't figure out what he'd said wrong or what had caused her to misunderstand him.
And just now, a thought flashed through his mind like lightning: he had seen a few packs of sanitary pads in the bathroom early in the morning... He had heard that women's emotions fluctuate before and during their periods, which was normal.
So, was Clara being distant because of her period?
That would explain it.
He had seen her in pain during her period before, curled up on the bed, her face pale and sweating.
He didn't know what kind of pain it was, but he wanted to make her feel better.
"If you don't know any doctors in that field, I'll ask someone else," he said calmly, looking at the two of them.
Jasper clapped him on the shoulder and puffed out his chest, chuckling. "Third Brother, you don't need to ask anyone else! I'm an expert!"
"I'll tell you... I have a secret recipe!" he said mysteriously, lowering his voice. "Just give it to Clara, and I guarantee she'll be as fierce as a wolf... no, as lively as a dragon!"
