Chapter 35

THIRTY-FIVE

SUMMER

“I can’t believe he ordered a donkey for Eleanor. That’s so sweet.” Emi sighs and sits back against the couch.

“And the blue and pink ribbon around its neck, so cute,” Ava tacks on.

My cheeks hurt from smiling so much. It’s like I won the jackpot with Mase. How is this my life right now?

I sure as hell don’t deserve it.

“You deserve to be happy, Summer, and trust me, Mase Campbell is going to make you happy.” Gia pats my hand, and all the girls nod with smiles almost as wide as my own.

“She’s right, you do,” Travis adds, and I smile at my best friend.

Thank you, I mouth back to him, and he grins.

“Poor Reed looks like he’d rather be anywhere else,” Emi comments, and we all look in his direction.

“Is he always so …” Travis thinks for a moment. “Intense?”

“Yes.” Gia smiles proudly, and we all nod. You can see the love pouring from them just by a simple look, and it’s so adorable.

“He got lumbered with leading the donkey round the grounds. I’m pretty sure Tate used entertaining Bryce as an excuse not to take his turn.

” Emi smiles, and I steal a glance at Tate; he’s in a pop-up soccer net playing the goalkeeper while Bryce takes shots at him.

Reed’s eyes bore into him like lasers, and I smile at the anger radiating from him.

He looks like he’s seconds away from detonating.

His face is getting redder by the second, his eyes are sharpening, and I can even see his chest heaving from where we sit. Definitely wound up.

“He looks …” Emi muses, then tilts her head from side to side. “A little angsty.”

“He looks like he’s about to blow a fucking stack,” Ava tacks on, making us all giggle at her blunt words.

Gia pops another chip in her mouth nonchalantly, then sits back and crosses her legs, a smile playing on her lips like she’s watching a movie. “Let’s see how this plays out.”
