Chapter 17
Braxton
I never thought my mate would have to get physical to defend our relationship. The way she ended shit with Fonda had me smiling from ear to ear, but with Megan challenging her, it turned out to be something I didn’t anticipate.
During our late teenage years, Megan and I started messing around. I guess because our mothers were so close and hers would always bring Megan to our house during the summertime when she worked for my mother. Although I found Megan very attractive, I never promised a future of us being together. Our situationship had always had that understanding. We knew we weren’t mates, so it was established long ago that once we officially found our mates things between us would automatically end.
I cut things off with Megan months ago because she started getting clingy and acting like she was my Alpha Female. It was as if the terms we discussed prior had gone out the door with her. True, I hadn’t found Nyah then, but something in my gut was telling me to distance myself from Megan. Maybe it was the Gods preparing me for when I crossed paths with Nyah...I don’t know.
Either way, Megan showed her ass, and I will not tolerate that type of disrespect towards my mate. My mother should have left her ass in Texas. Mother was coming to meet with family, so why bring her? I’m still a little peeved about that shit.
Nyah played nice throughout dinner, but I felt the agitation emitting from her. I knew she had questions, and like I told her, I would answer any she asked. One thing I won’t do is keep any secrets from my mate and hope she felt the same with me.
When my mother said the ‘Like father, like son’ bullshit, I had to bite my tongue before addressing her. I have much respect for my father and my mother but promised myself a long time ago that if I found the one that is destined for me, I would never treat her the way my father did my mother.
Other wolves frowned at my father for not claiming my mother, but they didn’t know the reason why. Let’s just say things are not always as they seem.
The dinner ended with Levi instructing one of the guards to drive Kenia’s vehicle to the hotel while she and he rode back to Hillard Hotel with Nyah and I. After going back and forth, my mother finally agreed to ride to the hotel with my father. She thought she could escape the tongue lashing he had in-store for her. Yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. Their car left before ours.
“I’m going to need a stiff drink,” Nyah said as we pulled away from the restaurant.
I couldn’t help looking at her phone as she typed away. She texted someone at the hotel to have a bottle of Hennessy and Pink Rose’ sent to the suite. She then turned to me with a serious expression and said, “Please, inform your guards that someone will be coming to the suite.”
I just nodded my head.
I should have engaged her more on the ride, but I was more focused on her calming down after her altercation with Megan. Levi and Kenia sat across from us laughing and talking about the whole ordeal. I wanted to add my two cents but kept them to myself because I didn’t know how Nyah would react or go off about Megan being there in the first place.
Once the car was parked in front of the hotel, I invited Levi and Kenia up for drinks. My guards surrounded us as we exited the car and went inside the hotel. I was grateful Nyah was at least letting me hold her hand. Personally, I was ready to get to the suite to have that drink but that was derailed when we heard loud profanities coming from the check-in counter. This day just keeps getting better and better.
“Fuck you! I booked a suite here three weeks ago,” the disgruntled man spews to the associate that I now know is Lisa.
Behind the counter Lisa smiled back at him, but her reddened cheeks showed that she was embarrassed.
“I’m sorry sir, but as I stated before, we have no reservations under your name. All the suites are booked, but we do have deluxe rooms available if you would like one of those.”
He looked at the people he was with and said, “This is the bullshit I have to deal with.”
They laughed with him as he focused back on Lisa. “You need to check again. I have a reservation for a fucking suite. Do we look like the type of people who would stay in a deluxe room? So, unless your hotel wants to lose money, you will make that shit miraculously appear on your screen.”
Another thing I hated with everything inside of me is an entitled prick. Letting Nyah’s hand go, I went to the counter. Lisa notices me as I approach. “Lisa, there is no need for you to continue to go back and forth with this gentleman. He nor his party will be staying at the Hillard Hotel tonight or any other night.”
A sense of relief comes over Lisa as she starts to tap away at her computer. Nyah goes around the counter, then begins to whisper to Lisa.
“Who the fuck are you to make that kind of decision? And what the Hell is her black ass whispering about?”
Nyah’s face twists into what I’ve learned is one ready to do bodily harm. I silently instruct Levi to block her path as a low growl leaves me. I backhand the shit out of his ass. How dare he disrespect Nyah or any other person of color like that. The hit was so hard it left him on his knees with his friends trying to help him up.
Covering his mouth as slob and blood leak from it, he slurs, “You’re going to regret this.”
“The only thing I regret is you coming into my hotel. Now get the fuck out.”
He shakes his friends off of him, then digs inside of his name brand suit jacket and pulls out his wallet. He opens it, then slams down a black card. I scanned the card for his name. Robert Van Hynes. Yep, even his name sounds like a prick.
After taking the cloth handed to him from his female friend to wipe his mouth, Mr. Van Hynes points to the card. “This right here will give me access to anywhere I want to. So, unless you have one of those, you need to get the fuck out of my face.”
I glance at Levi who shakes his head from side to side before responding to Mr. High Society. Laying my hand flat on my chest, I say, “I’m sorry Mr. Van Hynes, I didn’t have the chance to introduce myself.”
“I don’t give a fuck who you are. All I want is the suite I reserved,” he barks.
Ignoring his ass, I ask Lisa, “Was there a deposit made?”
“No, sir and there is no deposit for a reservation,” she replies.
“Then there’s nothing more to be said,” I say before facing the idiot. “I am Braxton Hillard, the owner of this hotel.” He still gawks at me as if he wants to attack, but I continue. “My employee was very accommodating in offering you another solution, but you turned that down. At this point, you are now trespassing, so I would advise you to leave my establishment on your own accord or I can have you physically removed.”
“Do you know who the fuck you’re messing with?” Mr. Van Hynes seethes, displaying blood coated teeth.
I widen my stance, sliding my hands in my pockets as I hunch my shoulders. “You didn’t give a fuck who I was, so why should I care about who you are? We have no business together, so I’m going to tell you again to leave this hotel.”
Mr. Van Hynes chuckles along with the two other men with him. “And if I don’t?”
Shit, I could show him better than I could tell him. With just the snap of my finger, my men and a few of father’s encircle Mr. Van Hynes and the others. The women shriek as the large men crowd their space, leaving them no room to escape. The two men with Mr. Van Hynes look as if they’re about to shit their pants which I found quite comical. The best part about it is Mr. Van Hynes himself changing his tune.
“Fuck it, we’ll go but this isn’t over,” he threatens.
Waving my hand in front of me, I return, “Yeah, yeah, we’ve heard that once tonight and it didn’t end well. Just get the Hell out of my hotel.”
The cocoon of the guards begins to move them towards the exit as Mr. Van Hynes steadily throws out threats. Under normal circumstances I would have taken him to a dark room to add to the slap I gave him and made him beg for forgiveness, but he wasn’t worth it. I’ve dealt with his kind throughout my life, and they had more words than action. If Mr. Van Hynes wanted to come back, feeling all Braveheart and shit, I can promise you he will never leave this hotel the way he came in.”
After making sure Lisa was okay to continue her shift, we went up to the suite. On the elevator ride up the sisters huddled into a corner and spoke in a hush tone. This time I used my keen wolf hearing to hear what they were talking about.
“Are you okay?” Kenia asked Nyah.
“For the most part, I am,” Nyah replied. “I just didn’t think having a mate would lead to so many physical alterations.”
“It comes with it, sis.”
“I know now, but you know I’m not for all of this physical violence. This bond has me in a choke hold so tight, I want to pull the lungs out of every female that smiles at him, and you know that’s not me. The shit with Fonda earlier, then with that Megan chick...”
Kenia rests on the back of the elevator. “Trust me, I know. I felt the same way with my destined mate.”
I look over to Levi who keeps staring straight ahead. I’m about to find out what the Hell is going on with those two. At dinner days ago, they were in a heated conversation, then tonight he invited her out with us. Something’s up, and I’m going to get to the bottom of it.
The elevator doors finally opened. We stepped out with two of my guards standing on both sides. The one on the left says, “Alpha, a member of the room service came up to drop off liquor bottles. We tested them to make sure they hadn’t been tampered with, and they weren’t. They are sitting on the tray outside of the suite.”
“Thank you, Cornelius,” I say as they escort us to the suite.
Levi steps forward and taps in the security code, which security didn’t have to unlock the door. Which is why the drinks are in the hallway. The light on the panel turns green and Levi opens the door.
Nyah and Kenia disappear to the master bedroom, leaving me and Levi standing in the living room. I guess they needed to have a one-on-one sister chat.
Going over to the coffee table I take four glasses from the tray. As I filled them with Hennessy, I thought of how to engage Levi to be truthful instead of demanding him as his Alpha. That shit flew out the window like a paper airplane.
After filling the glasses, I pick up two and extend one to Levi. He takes the one from my left hand.
I present us with a toast, “To the normal shit, health, wealth, and success, but what I really want to toast to, is whether this one should be towards you and Kenia’s mating.”
