Chapter 33

Nyah

Megan screams like a banshee as she rushes towards me with her arms extended and her manicured nails replaced with claws. Big mistake on her part because she attacked off of emotions, not strategy. I hold my ground until the last moment, then step to the side. Just as she’s parallel to me, I elbow her to the side of the head, causing her to stumble to the side, almost coming within inches of the circle.

“That’s right, little sis. Show that heifer you not a punk,” Kenia yells, but I let it go in one ear and out the other. The fight has just begun and knowing that Megan is a descendant of Fenrir, I’m sure she probably has some tricks up her sleeve.

“Lucky shot. Anyone can get a one off before they are humbled,” Megan tries to play off as she rubs the side of her head. “But it won’t happen again.”

“If that’s what you think,” I return, not letting her get into my head, but I will do my best to get in hers. “But I’m sure it will.”

Megan snickers, asking, “And why are you so confident about that?”

“Because you’re all talk and no-show,” I pause, then say, “I lost my momma at an early age, but my little mind held onto something she used to tell me.”

“And what the Hell was that?” Megan asks when she should be getting ready for the ass whooping I’m about to serve her.

I grin, showing my pearly whites just before her canines break through. “She said never let another take what yours is. Whether it’s your mate, your family, or your life. And you have tried me one too many times.”

Megan stares at me, then laughs, “Fuck you and your momma . If the only thing she taught you were a few meaningless words, it’s probably good she’s dead.”

“This bitch,” Kenia growls as she tries to enter the circle, but Levi pulls her back.

She struggles in his arms. “Let me fucking go, Levi,” Kenia roars with her voice mixed with her wolfs.

“No,” he argues, doing everything in his power to hold her back. “This is Nyah’s fight. You cannot intervene.”

I see the tears in my sister’s eyes from Megan’s hurtful words and I know she wants to join me, but the circle has been made and she can’t cross it no matter what Megan says.

As I give Kenia a settling look, it’s enough for Megan to take advantage. She slashes her claws across my chest before sweeping my feet from underneath me. I cry out from the pain as my body hits the ground hard, knocking the wind out of me.

“Nyah,” Braxton cries out as Megan drops down, straddling my torso and pinning my arms.

The last person I see before Megan starts her assault is my daddy with his eyes closed and his lips moving rapidly.

Blood fills my mouth and oozes out when she connects with a right hook followed by several more. Megan then claws the side of my face down to my neck, breaking the skin. “We’ll see how much Braxton will love your pretty face once I’m through with it,” she sneers, attacking the other side.

Megan wickedly laughs as I scream from the unbearable pain. She treats my body like a cat playing with a mouse before killing it. With the little energy I have left, I try in vain to push her off of me, but it’s no use. This is not how I foreseen my life ending. I saw Braxton and I having a happy life as mates, with children and family surrounding us. I envisioned watching Crown to grow into a large stag, finding his mate, and having fawns running around him. I wanted so much out of life, but it’s all about to be wishful thinking...No, fuck that. I’m not going to let Megan take me away from everything I deserve. Ignoring my tears, I close my eyes tight and begin to pray to the Gods and my momma for strength.

Suddenly it feels like a bolt of lightning striking through my body. I convulse under Megan, who grins with delight, thinking she is the one causing it. As she brings her fist back again, a howl so deed and feral comes from me as I shift.

Gasps and whispers circulate through the Pack. Braxton tilts his head to the side with a look of shock and awe.

“Willa,” Daddy whispers, bewildered.

I don’t know why he said my momma’s name but with my wolf under Megan, I use my back claws to slice into her skin. It’s enough for her to roll off of me.

Megan ends up with her left knee on the ground and the right one bent, looking like a knock off version of Batgirl, ready to shoot out the fictitious web.

“So, this is how you think you’re going to beat me by using your wolf? You might as well step out of the sacred circle. It will be a more honorable death done by your own Pack members than by my hands,” Megan declares, standing up right.

I’ve heard about Caucasian people turning white, but I’ve never seen it myself until just now when I tell Megan through my wolf, “The honor will be mine after I literally feed you to the wolves.”

“What the fuck?” Megan shrieks.

“That’s right, bitch, you might be a descendent with diluted blood of an Ancient, but my bloodline is stronger.”

Megan bays in the air as she shifts into a brown and gray wolf, then charges at me. Not giving her a chance to think of a strategy, my wolf attacks Megan’s wolf, biting and slashing into its fur. Megan’s wolf fights back, clawing at my legs but the pain isn’t radiating to my brain.

Megan falls on her back, allowing me to dig my claws into her chest. A few of her men shift, moving towards the sacred circle trying to come to her rescue but Braxton, Levi, and Kenia have also shifted. They pounce on the men, giving them a fight they weren’t ready for. The rest of Megan’s men find themselves unable to move their limbs. I learn why when I quickly glance over to daddy and Bryant who both are standing towards the men. Their arms are out in front of them with their palms up, chanting.

With another slash to Megan’s chest, exposing the ribs protecting her heart, I lean down almost touching my snout to hers. “ My daddy is one of the original Ancients who helped take down Fenrir. If I didn’t have his strength or will to live, you might have been the one to walk out of the sacred circle. ” With my paw pressed against Megan’s exposed ribs, I feel her heartbeat race.

Megan shifts back into her human form, coughing up blood. She grunts through her pain with her eyes locked onto mine.

“Ancient blood or not, if you kill me, more of my people will come,” she pants out. “The only hope for you and your Pack is to let my men take me out of here.”

“Bitch whether I let you live or die, your people will come,” I hissed through my teeth. “Just by you being here, let me know there is a war coming and my Pack is ready for it.”

“Then their deaths will be on your hands,” Megan says before spitting blood mixed with saliva in my face.

As a woman, half human, and wolf shifter, spitting on someone is the ultimate form of disrespect. I can overlook someone calling me a bitch or even the N-word, but what Megan just did, there’s no overlooking.

I keep my eyes focused on Megan’s crazed eyes, semi shifting my right paw. She tries to hold in her cries of agony, but it doesn’t work. She calls out to Fenrir for help as I work my claws through her chest cavity before reaching her heart to grip the pulsing heart organ.

Holding onto her lifeline, I tell Megan, “I hope in the next life, you’re on the right side because in this one, your bloodline put you on the wrong one,” I whisper before squeezing her heart in my fist.

Megan continues to choke silently, not even putting up a fight. She knows there’s no hope for her and there isn’t anyone left to come rescue her. All she can do is accept that death is seconds away.

I’ve killed many prey, and felt a bit of remorse but with Megan, there is none. With one quick snatch, I rip her heart through the ribs. Staring down at Megan, I watch as her life fades from her eyes. Her heart throbs for a few more seconds before it goes still in my hand.

Glaring down at her lifeless corpse, I let out a victorious howl. My Pack members joined me. When I finish, I throw Megan’s heart to the pack. The older members move to the side to let the younger one’s feast. Next, I grab Megan’s body in my jaws, then toss it outside of the sacred circle. Elder Nelah clicks her tongue, and four members retrieve Megan’s body and take it into the woods, followed by the rest of the Pack. Elder Nelah gives me a motherly smile before walking away.

Going back to the middle of the circle, I lower my head and front legs, watching the melee going on outside of it.

Braxton rips away the neck of the man he’s fighting with. The man’s blood sprays out like a water hose. Kenia and Levi’s mouths and fur are covered with blood as they finish off their opponents.

The men daddy and Bryant are holding like statues, eyes pleading to be let go. Then the father’s chants stop. Together, they slowly form their hands into mighty fists. The men begin to tremble as they grunt and moan. Blood begins to run from their ears and noses. As Daddy and Bryant rotate their fists, you would think someone is next to the men, snapping their necks, killing them instantly. When the last one hits the ground, daddy and Bryant lower their arms.

I rise, moving towards the edge of the circle, ready to shift, but daddy stops me.

“Wait, Nyah,” he says as they make their way to the circle.

“ What’s wrong, daddy ?” My wolf and I ask.

Daddy proudly peers at me. “Nyah, I know you just went through a lot, but have you noticed your fur?”

Shaking my head, I look down at my front legs. Black, not brown fur covers them. Startled, I stumbled back on my hind legs.

Braxton’s wolf jumps into the circle. He cautiously approaches, speaking to me through his wolf. “ Nyah, mate of mine., It seems the Gods have blessed you. Do not be afraid.”

He looks over to Levi, who along with Kenia have shifted to their human forms and now have blankets covering their private parts. Braxton jerks his head towards the foil pans stacked on a table daddy is using to feed the Pack.

Levi runs over and grabs one. He unwinds the edges as he walks back to his spot outside of the circle. Kenia helps as they roll out the heavy-duty foil.

I turn my head to the side when they have the pan fully rolled out and Kenia brings the metal to me.

My wolf and I are confused and have more than twenty-one questions as to why this has happened.

Daddy enters the circle, then drops down on his knees in front of me. He cups the side of my wolf’s face. “You look so much like your momma. Down to the black fur and red eyes, that’s why I said her name after seeing your transformation. Just from seeing this, I know Willa is still with me, raising you girls.” Daddy eyes leave from me to Kenia then back to me. “You two have proven you are daughters of Willa, the fierce Shifter Maidens.” He closed his eyes, then opened them. They are a neon green color. His radiant eyes regard me with intent. I almost shift as he drops down on his right knee.

“And you will not shift,” Elder Nelah directs to me as if she heard my thoughts. She appears with a young woman behind her, carrying an engraved wooden box.

Elder Nelah reaches daddy’s side, then takes the box and hands it to daddy.

“Thank you, Elder,” he says. Elder Nelah nods before taking two steps back.

Daddy opens the box and smiles. “I have waited a long time for this moment. Your momma and I had pieces fashioned for you and Kenia. We were to give them to you together if your true inner wolf ever emerged. I wish Willa were here to see how beautiful you are.”
