Chapter 36
Braxton
“Nyah, who are you talking to?” I ask, walking through the tree line, then sitting the fish basket on the picnic table. I find it odd to hear Nyah having a conversation with someone but only she and Crown are standing there. What confuses me is normally I’m able to understand her words, but this time they sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher speaking.
Nyah turns to face me, smiling.
“I was just telling Crown, we need to hurry and get everything out before you come back, but you beat us to it,” she replies, coming to me, then kissing my cheek. “We were playing so much, time got away from us.”
“It’s fine, love,” I say, picking up the basket, I add, “I caught dinner. There’s even enough for Crown.”
“I see,” Nyah laughs. “Looks like you have enough for dinner and breakfast. As for Crown, we won’t be feeding him meat of any kind. His species are herbivores, so the last thing I want to do is get him used to the taste of flesh.”
Shrugging my shoulders, I respond, “Dinner yes, but as for breakfast, you should know by now I need coffee the first thing in the morning or else the beast will be released.”
Nyah laughs, swatting my chest. “Yes, I do know. How about we take out what we have for dinner and the rest, we can hang in the shed to dry out. If you like beef jerky, then you will love dried catfish.”
While I do love beef jerky, I’m not sure how dried catfish would compare to it, but I nod, agreeing.
Nyah hugs me tightly before saying, “Come with me to the shed. We can gather the tent, sleeping bags, and extra clothing.”
She giggles as I nibble at her ear, dropping the basket to wrap my arms around her.
“I think we should leave the tent and sleep under the stars. We can also forgo the clothes. I think we should stay the way we are now.”
“Yeah, that sounds good,” she pants when my dick jumps against her skin.
A low growl leaves me as the scent of her arousal hits my nostrils. Her nails skimming over my back only makes me want my mate more.
In a hoarse tone, I tell her, “Nyah, I’m going to give you two options.”
“Okay,” she returns, holding her head back to look me in the eyes.
“Either I fuck you now and feed you afterwards or I feed you now and fuck you after. Either way, I will fuck you.” I stare at her through hooded eyes, not knowing which option she will take. Whichever one she chooses is a win-win for me.
Nyah thinks over her options before saying, “By the way you’re looking at me, I’ll take feed me now, because I think I’m going to need the nourishments to replenish the energy I spent earlier and to have some extra in reserve.”
“Then let’s get to it,” I say, undoing my hold on her. “We’ll take out what we need from the shed.”
Nyah holds up her right pointer finger. “But first...”
Drops down to one knee, then begins to whisper something to Crown like before. When he takes off towards the path that leads to Alpha Lightfeather’s cabin, I’m really starting to question if the fawn can actually understand what she tells him.
Watching Crown disappear into the woods, Nyah stands.
Unable to keep my curiosity at bay, I ask, “Does he really know what you are telling him?”
Nyah points in the direction of where Crown went. “What does that tell you?”
“A lot but not enough,” I reply.
“Well, let me try to simplify it for you,” Nyah starts. She takes a deep breath, then continues. “I know you basically grew up in the city, and although our Packs are alike, there are some things that are different.”
“Such as?” I urged.
“Such as, within our Pack some members are chosen as guardians of another kind. It seems that the God’s have chosen me as Crown’s, and just like any other member of my Pack, I will forever protect him.”
Now that made sense, in a way. I’ve seen how protective she is over Crown. Being an Ancient, Alpha Lightfeather must have sensed her connection, which is why he safeguards the fawn as well. I’ve never seen anything like this within our Pack, but now I’m curious to know if I am a guardian too.
So many revelations have come to light today. My mother and Megan’s deceit, Nyah’s destined wolf emerging, and to know that we could be guardians to those we normally see as prey.
Although I have many questions, the main one that sits at the top of my mind is why hasn’t my destined wolf shown himself yet? I’ve been through some crazy shit in the past, nothing life harrowing as what Nyah went through. Shit like that starts to put negative thoughts in my mind. What if my destined wolf never appears? Does that make me a lesser mate? Will Nyah and her wolf still want to be mated with me? Am I really the mate that she needs? I’m a strong-minded no-nonsense type of person who is ready to take over the world, but when it comes to this mating aspect, this is foreign territory to me. I thought once you were mated, that was it. This whole destined wolf popping out is something my father never told me. I guess he and I will have a talk about it tomorrow.
As if she could hear my thoughts, Nyah says, “You are who the God’s chose for me and because of that, we will forever be mated. You are my Alpha King, and I am your Alpha Queen.”
“But, Nyah what if...” Nyah cuts off my words, pressing her fingers against my lips.
“There are no what if’s, Braxton. We’re mated and nothing else needs to be said. Whatever doubts you have brewing in that handsome head of yours, ignore that shit. We,” she moves her finger between the two of us. “We are one. Nothing and no one can come between that. Trust me, your destined wolf will wreak havoc when the time is right.”
Raising my eyebrow, I ask, “And how do you know that?”
Nyah softly pinches my chin to pull my mouth closer to hers. “Because look at everything we have been through in the short span of time of knowing each other. After all of that, here we are still together. Lies, accusations, and other bullshit won’t tear us apart. I’m willing to go through the pits of Hell for my mate, are you willing to do the same?”
“I will walk, crawl through whatever it takes to keep you safe,” I swear.
Nyah backs up from me. When she reaches the edge of the table, she hops on top of it. “If you’re willing to do whatever, then come over here and make your Queen call out your name.”
