Chapter 42

Nyah

“Is that a threat?” I asked Hanna.

She looks down at her manicured nails. “Not a threat, just my opinion.” She glances up at me, smiling, “We all have one, right?”

Oh, this bitch is really trying it, but I’ll remain professional. Skia enters my mind.

“Who the Hell are these two bottom feeders?”

“The one with the mouth had plans of seducing Levi, and the mousy one thought she could do the same with Braxton,” I replied.

“She must die,” Skia snarls.

A growl so intense vibrates through my skull causing me to close my eyes with pain. With everything in me I fight to keep Skia from trying to take over. Braxton sensing something wrong, grasps my hand.

“Nyah, are you okay?”

Skia calms her rage before I respond, “I’m fine.” Opening my eyes, he peers at me with concern. Squeezing his hand, I assure, “Really, Braxton I’m fine.”

Suddenly, the doors to the conference room opened. Two guards walk in, then move to the side. Standing behind them is the asshole, Robert Van Hynes, Braxton kicked out of the hotel.

With a cocky smile, he takes a seat next to Fonda.

What the actual fuck? Quick on my toes, I shoot a text to our IT department. If shit gets ugly; and I’m sure it will, we’ll have all the pertinent evidence needed to back us up.

“This just keeps getting better and better,” Braxton sighs.

Placing his briefcase on the table, Van Hynes chuckles as he opens it. “I told you that night things weren’t over between us. So, imagine the enthusiasm I had when the suit filed by these respectable women against Hillard Hotels came across my desk. This is not only personal, but now it is business.”

“I’ll let you have this now that you’re here,” Hanna says, handing over the envelope to him.

Van Hynes takes the envelope from Hanna, then turns to Braxton. “Luckily, I made it just in time to explain the suit against you in laymen’s terms. I’m sure under any other circumstances, you would have your overrated legal team here to run interference which is why I instructed my clients to do things this way.”

“And you’re right,” Braxton laughs. “But even if I had prior knowledge of this,” he lazily moves his hand between them, “I wouldn’t even waste my team’s time. Whatever these ladies and I’m trying to be respectful when I use that term, shared with your firm is ineffectually far from what actually took place. It’s probably wise for you and them to silently leave the way you came in before things take a turn down a road none of you are ready for.”

Van Hynes scoffs at Braxton as he pulls out papers from his briefcase and neatly sits them on the table. “And I’m sure that’s what you’d like us to do, but unfortunately neither my clients nor I will be bullied by you. They have a legitimate complaint, and unless we can come to a mutual agreement on compensation, there’s no other recourse than for us to take this to court.”

Not able to keep silent, I ask, “Is that what you really want to do?”

With bravado higher than his IQ, Van Hynes slumps back into the chair. He fans his hands over the papers.

“I have here documentation that proves Fonda and Hanna had exemplary work history without any writes-ups or infractions. Both had stellar annual reviews from the prior owner. So, with all of that, I can’t see why they were let go because of some harmless flirting. I mean, come on, what secretary doesn’t flirt with her boss?”

“A professional one,” I quickly replied.

Van Hynes raises his brow. “Nevertheless, I believe they were let go because of something else.”

“And what might that be?” Braxton inquires.

Van Hynes leans forward, responding, “Discrimination because they aren’t your kind. Yes, they told me about your dirty little secret.”

Braxton tensed, ready to explode but the extra pressure I applied to his hand, kept him in his seat. Shit, if I couldn’t get the pleasure of chopping Fonda and Hanna up, he can’t get it either. At least not yet.

“With one swipe of our claws I can end them right now,” Skia breaks through my thoughts. “You’re sitting here trying to be nice with them, but it’s obvious they wouldn’t give you the same respect. Either you kill them now, or they will keep popping up like rag weeds.”
