Chapter 11
Matteo
I 'd tracked Rain to the Hellfire Club but hadn't been able to gain entrance. Naturally I'd texted Jason.
He hadn't replied in the hour I'd spent waiting.
It didn’t take long for Rain to emerge from the club though. And when she had, it’d been on the arm of the Ito family's golden son.
I'd run him through every system, and database but not much had appeared. He was simply a businessman on paper, but I knew that was some sort of front.
It had to be.
He was also a reckless fucking driver.
I nearly lost them on the freeway but managed to keep up, making sure to stay behind a good distance.
They arrived in the gated cookie cutter community forcing me to park on the street. If I still wanted to run any sort of surveillance, I was going to have to sneak into the community.
I had on all black anyway, and not because I had planned on sneaking around, but I was thankful for the fashion decision I'd made.
Sure, that enough time had passed, I found myself walking around the perimeter of the community. A few security guards on duty drove by with flashlights shining from the golf carts they were on.
"Fucking rent-a-cops," I hissed with disdain as I threw my body flush up against a tree.
When they passed, I eased out onto the black paved path and sprinted. By my calculation, I was roughly six houses away.
A sound caught my ears and I stopped running.
"Big Black! Get back here...!"
A yelling voice cut through the quiet.
What the fuck is a Big Black? I didn't quite get the chance to decipher what it was because I swiftly moving behind some trees and out of view.
Moments later, I got my answer.
A huge black dog appeared, standing where I'd just been moments before. He had to be the size of a bear cub and he was beginning to growl. The animal's lip had curled back, a snarl starting to form.
I had no idea why but, at the base of my neck, a tingling sensation began to form.
Maybe my body was reacting to potential danger.
"Hey boy, what do you see?" the teenage girl who'd been calling for her pet appeared.
She starred into the darkness beyond the tree line but I was sure she couldn't see me. I was confident because she would have been screaming by now.
"Come on," she whispered. "Nothing is there."
I knew she was trying to convince herself but finally the dog let her drag him away. Sure that they were gone, I eased out of the trees and foliage.
I let out a deep breath, still listening to the sounds of the night. The trickle of water running told me I was near some sort of creek, frogs were croaking. Crickets were chiming in with their wonderful sounds. What would I have told someone if I'd been discovered? If I’d gotten caught out here snooping around in the dark. I had no idea what story I’d have to concoct.
The rest of the way, I used the darkness and blended into the night.
Once I was in the back of Ito's mansion, I scanned for security cameras that might pick up my movements. Gravel crunched lightly under my feet, and when I was satisfied that I wasn't being seen, I found myself going through the back gate.
The pool was on, and it was illuminated. The shadows were my friend and I used them. My ears picked up on chatter the closer I got to the windows.
Cassie and Ito were sitting cozy and calm together. Talking at first and it pissed me off.
You could kill him , a thought whispered to me.
Jealousy tore through my soul. The tingling had started up at the base of my neck again. The voice was getting louder inside of my head, and it had me questioning my sanity.
What the fuck is going on...?
This time the voice did something extremely unusual.
It answered me.
You’re pathetic.
Fear threatened to override the jealousy. Was I having a conversation with myself?
Was I fucking answering myself was an even better question?
Sweat began to slide over my body, a sheen of perspiration broke out along the edges of my temples.
“What is going on?"
The voice sighed. You're also a fucking idiot as well.
My hand went to my throat, it was beginning to feel tight. I tried to stop thinking and pay attention to Rain and Kenji Ito.
Then the strangest thing happened, even stranger then when I’d just answered myself.
Kenji Ito pulled Rain into his lap so fucking fast that I thought I was seeing shit.
What the fuck? Can't be . I thought.
You know what you just saw, the voice replied.
Taking a breath, I continued to watch the two of them from my hiding spot.
Lets just say, I thought.
Let's just say what? The reply came instantly, quicker this time.
"Fuck," I whispered out loud, this was weird as fuck.
Taking a deep breath I allowed the conversation to take place. “Let’s just say that, I saw what I just saw. What in the fuck am I about to do about it?”
You know what you saw. You just saw another Corsican in action, and you need to get the fuck out of here before he realizes that you’re watching him. But I do still suggest killing him because he’s about to fuck our girl.
“Christ,” I whispered. “She’s not our girl.”
She is, and if you’d stop being so fucking weak you’d have her under us by now. Must I do every fucking thing around here?
Wait, I took a breath.
The voice sighed. Yes, dumbass. I’m awake now…it was her. She woke me.
Realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
My Corsican, it was awake.
My brothers all had one.
I had one but he’d never…
He’d never talked to me.
He seemed like a grouchy fucker too.
I did take his advice though and slipped away unnoticed. I’d left my cellphone in the car. The second I was inside, I dialed Mason and Carmine.
They answered at nearly the same time.
Not even giving them a chance to speak, I let my words go. “We have a huge fucking problem.”
Mason spoke first. “Tell me it’s not dad.”
“I don’t give a shit what it is, I’m about to get some pussy,” Carmine spoke.
Whipping the car down the street, and I brought it to a stop at a stop sign just as a cop car drove by. “I think I found one of those other Corsicans. And I think…I think mine is starting to wake up.”
Carmine let loose a whistle of disbelief. “And to think, it’s only Saturday.”
“Come to my loft,” Mason said.
“I’m getting my dick sucked right now,” Carmine offered up. “Text me the details.”
He hung up on both of us and Mason muttered something.
“I’m on the way,” I told him before ending the call.
If anyone could help me solve both of my problems, it was Mason. He had managed to get his Corsican under control. They worked in sync with one another, especially when it came to making their woman happy.
The only thing was, I didn’t have a woman.
Yet, a voice whispered to me, and chill rolled down my spine.
