Chapter 11 #2

He could—we would probably get several looks though. I could always use magic to hide his pregnancy, but I didn’t need to. “I will go wherever it is that you’d like to.” I was enjoying our time away, but we both knew it was coming to an end.

Camden squirted shampoo in his hand before handing me the bottle.

I hadn’t been in the water yet to wet my hair, so I held on to it for the time being.

“Nothing extravagant. Just a walk on the beach, maybe a bit of swimming. And by that, I mean up to my knees wading. I’m still not that fond of the idea of swimming in the ocean.

I know you’ll keep me safe, but I just don’t want to. ”

I nodded. Camden moved to the side to lather up his hair while I took his place in the water. “You don’t have to swim in the ocean. Or any of the lakes back home. I will say that the water there doesn’t get nearly as warm as the water here.”

Camden shook his head. “I’m good. I like pools. My fox will swim in a lake if needed, but I’m still more fond of pools. And in this form and not the other.”

“I can’t wait to see your fox. I wish we’d thought about that before it was too late and he decided to rest while you were pregnant.”

I squeezed shampoo into my hand, and after replacing the bottle on the shelf, I started washing my own hair. I moved out of the water so Camden could rinse.

“I’m sorry I didn’t think about it either. He was certainly eager to come out and meet you, but now we have to wait.” Camden dunked under the spray, and I took that moment to quickly scrub my hair.

“It’s truly not an issue. I’ll certainly be perfectly fine with having to wait another two months. I don’t have anything such as that to share with you though.”

Camden rolled his eyes. “You have magic. It’s a pretty green color too.”

“It’s not a requirement, but a lot of warlocks that are doctors tend to have green or greenish magic. It’s not something we decide; it’s simply there when we start to come into our powers.”

I rinsed my hair and found Camden staring at me. “I think it’s fascinating. You have all of these abilities that I have only ever dreamed about. I’m not upset I’m a fox shifter—my brush is amazing, and my fox is gorgeous. But I certainly appreciate those that have extra abilities like yourself.”

I chuckled at that. I knew what Camden was saying, but I was also aware that he loved having a warlock for his mate.

He didn’t have to cook if he didn’t feel like it, and he certainly got extra perks when it came to travel.

We wouldn’t ever fly commercial again or be forced to drive across the country.

Well, partway, but it was still a very long drive.

“What would you like for breakfast?” I asked. “I guess I should have asked if you were hungry. You’ve not complained or anything of that nature.”

“I’ll eat anything. I’m up for all of it. Food.”

I smiled at my One. I could help with that.

We finished our shower, talking about plans for the near future.

We needed to discuss letting our parents know we were mated and expecting.

Camden wanted to tell mine before his, and from what I’d seen of Elizabeth in Camden’s memories, I didn’t blame him even a little.

There was also the nursery to get set up, further discussion about putting our little one into the childcare center or not, and how soon we wanted to try for another.

“Question for you,” Camden said as he dried off after we’d stepped out of the soothing shower. “Have you thought about going somewhere else? Maybe somewhere a bit more private?” Camden asked as we stepped into the room and heard the other tourists outside.

“I thought about it at first, but didn’t know if that was something you’d want,” I told him.

I walked over to the window to see what the commotion was.

There was a couple arguing, and I could see it not ending well for either of them.

I closed the window and turned to look at my One. “Where would you like to go?” I asked.

Camden shrugged. His bare shoulder was tempting, but I needed to feed him, not fuck him.

“You have magic. You could pick anywhere for us to go hang out for the next week. Don’t you know somewhere that it’s just the two of us?

You have your magic to take us anywhere and to poof food. Or showers. Or even houses.”

I did, actually. “Is that something you wish for?” I asked as I pulled him close. He’d seemed as if he’d enjoyed himself while we checked out several of the tourist areas.

“I think so. It’s not like we won’t be able to eat or anything like that. You can get us off of the mountain and back in Montana in a blink. But wouldn’t it be nice if it was just the two of us for the next few days?”

I nodded. With a thought, I had us a good distance away. We were on a very secluded island. Just the two of us. The small bungalow we’d been in was replaced with another, and although the waves could still be heard, there were no other people on this island.

Camden looked left, and his eyes widened. The bungalow was open to the beach for the most part. He walked through the entryway and out to the white sand beach.

“Did you make this all up? Is this some sort of magical illusion?”

I shook my head. “That’s a good idea, but no. We’re the only two people on this island. You can drop your towel and run down the beach naked if you wish. This place is in the Pacific, and I’ve been here more than once. It’s a very soothing place to unplug.”

Camden sighed. “Yeah, that sounds perfect.” He took a step toward the water, his feet hitting the sand, and I watched as he did a little wiggle.

His towel dropped to the ground, and after he glanced back at me, he started toward the gentle waves as they came in.

I dropped my own towel, leaving it and Camden’s there on the beach for later.

When I made it to my One, he was already walking in the surf of the water. “This is so warm,” he told me.

“Different ocean. The Pacific is still a quite deep ocean and certainly has some cold waters. But here, it’s shallow and tropical.”

“I’m not even going to ask where here is. It’s amazing, and you’re the best. Even if you weren’t a warlock and you were a shifter like me, I’d still find you amazing.”

My smile grew. “You’re pretty amazing yourself,” I told him. I laced our fingers together, and after bringing Camden’s to my lips to kiss, I started walking down the beach.

“Can I ask a personal question?”

“You certainly can. What is it that you wish to know?”

“Did you ever think you’d bring your mate to this beach? Or I guess island?”

I shook my head. “No. It’s certainly a nice way to spend time alone and get to know someone.”

“See, that’s sweet. Here, we’re alone. Secluded. Granted, we were at the other place as well. But this one is all alone. And I love it.”

I couldn’t help but smile at Camden. He was so excited about the smallest things.

I sent out a silent thanks for being gifted such an amazing person as my perfect other half as we walked down the beach, completely naked.

It was so freeing, and he was absolutely right. There was nobody here to disturb us.
