Chapter 14

Chapter Fourteen

Monty

Four Months Postpartum

The smell of coffee invades my senses as I pull the cup closer to my face and take a gulp. The hazelnut creamer splashes across my tastebuds and I sigh with approval.

Last night was a rough one. Hayes has started a sleep regression so between Josie and I we were up constantly with him. Our one saving grace is that Shiloh went for a sleepover at Xavier and Harpers to try and give us a bit of a break.

What kid wouldn’t want to sleep at their uncle's house who has a farm attached to it?

I mean– I want to have a sleep over there too.

Xavier and I haven’t had one on one bro time in awhile. Maybe, I should suggest the idea to Josie later to see if we can go out one weekend just me and him.

Maybe I can take Shiloh with me and we can go fishing. Xavier and I usually go fishing during the summer, but we’ve never taken the kid with us. I think he’s old enough to understand and learn.

“We should get Shiloh a fishing rod for his birthday this summer.” I say out loud to Josie.

She doesn’t miss a beat, used to my random outbursts. I mean they aren’t outbursts per say, but when something sticks in my head I say them out loud so I don’t forget them. Especially when it has to do with something I want to remember. I find saying it out loud helps.

“Hm, a fishing rod, eh? What got you there?” She asks, she never dismisses what I have to say, but encourages me to ask the questions or say the things.

“Well I was thinking about the summer fishing trips me and Xavier go on. I thought this year we could bring Shiloh.” I grab the carafe of coffee, topping myself up before turning and pour some more coffee into her mug as well.

“That would be fun, he would love to spend time with two of his favorite guys.” She smiles at me, and I find myself gravitating toward her. I walk around the island until I’m by her side, her eyes never leaving me as I close the distance.

She turns her body toward me, spreading her legs to accommodate my legs as I step between them. I slide my fingers through her short brown hair, admiring how soft it is between my fingers. Gently tugging on the end of the strands before I lean forward placing my lips against hers.

Josie leans forward, deepening the kiss.

When I feel her tongue slide across my lips I open up.

Our tongues tangle, her hands wrap around my neck, fingers tugging the hair at the nape of my neck.

Leaning forward I grip behind her thighs and pick her up.

A yelp leaves her as I place her on the counter top.

“Benjamin Montgomery!” She silently squeals as the cold countertop hits her thighs. Her grip on my neck tightens as her body adjusts. “What are you doing? The baby could wake up any minute.” Her breath comes out in a pant. Her eyes give away to the lust she’s feeling.

I bury myself in her neck and drag my teeth along the column of her throat, her body visibly shakes and I smirk.

“Let’s take advantage of the silence while we can.” I purr in her ear, sucking on her neck. Turning her to putty in my hands. Her hand travels down the front of my chest before disappearing into my sweatpants.

The slam of the door jolts us, followed by footsteps that grow closer.

“Good morning! I know it’s my day off, but I also know Hayes has been giving you guys a rough go at night so I thought -” We scramble to get ourselves decent. Josie removes her hand from my sweats and I quickly turn and walk toward the coffee machine.

“Good morning!” Josie exclaims, as I hear her hop down from the counter. “That’s so thoughtful of you. We were just enjoying some coffee and silence while we had it.”

I subtly adjust myself before washing my hands and starting a new pot of coffee. I make quick work of grabbing a cup for Evie and place the cream and sugar on the island counter so everyone can prepare their cups.

“It definitely looked like it.” Evie quips, a sexy as fuck smirk dons her face as she looks between us. I bring my hand to the back of my neck and rub. It was a close call, if Evie would have been just a few minutes later she would have walked in on me balls deep in my wife.

It should be a reminder that we need to be more careful.

It should be.

So, how is it that all I can think about is wanting to see what Evie would do if she did walk in on me and Josie. Would she sit and watch? Would she join in?

My dick twitches in my sweats, liking the idea. He’s actually really liking the idea and if I don’t think of anything to get it down then I’ll be standing here with a tent in my sweats.

Come on Monty. What’s something gross you can think of that will get your dick down.

Dirty diapers.

Runny, exploding diapers that get shit everywhere. Literally everywhere. Where you can’t do anything but put the kid in the tub and just hope for the best.

“Well,” Josie sips her coffee, shrugging her shoulders slightly, “with two boys you don’t know when you’re going to get some alone time. We were definitely taking advantage of one of them being gone.”

I chuckle, grabbing the now full coffee carafe and filling up everyone's cups.

“Of course.” Evie counters, she has her eyes on my wife. I see the mischief dancing in Evie’s hazel eyes. “Although, you have to take advantage of the time when you have it.”

“Exactly,” I say as I point a finger toward Evie. See she gets it.

“Maybe, I should stop by more often.” Evie quips. “You know, to join in on taking advantage of the free time.”

The inhale I take in reaction to Evie’s words comes at the exact same time as I was gulping down my coffee. Sputtering, I slam the coffee cup down on the counter. I cough the foul drink as it comes back up my throat and to my nose. My eyes burn as I try to breathe myself through this torture.

Both Josie and Evie are at my sides now. Josie smacking her hand on my back. Evie trying to talk me through it. I think she’s telling me to breathe, but honestly it’s all garbled words at this point.

I finally begin to breathe without the crackling of liquid. I straighten up, take my coffee cup and bring it to the sink. “Well, I think I’m done with coffee for right now.”

Like good old fashioned timing goes, the monitor begins going off. Letting us know that Hayes is up.

“I’ll go get him, he’s probably hungry.” Josie adds her coffee cup to the sink, grazing her hand across my lower back before taking off toward the bedrooms.

Evie and I are left in the kitchen by ourselves, I now realize that I have only been left alone with Evie a few times. There was always Shiloh or another adult with us when we’ve been together.

Yes, I know I am also an adult. I should be able to have an adult conversation with her without someone else being here.

For whatever reason, I just have absolutely nothing to say to keep a conversation going right now. Come on, Monty. Use that brain of yours, it literally thinks of thousands of things at any given time, but now is the time it chooses to have nothing readily available.

“You like pictures?” I blurt out. Smooth Monty, real smooth.

“I mean... Who doesn’t?” Evie responds, her lips in a straight line, but I can tell by the glimmer in her eye that she’s trying to hold in a laugh.

Sighing, I continue, “I mean, taking pictures. You like taking pictures?”

Her mouth pops open, before she closes her mouth, looking down at her hands. “Yeah. I do. I actually used to have a Canon EOS Rebel. It was one of my favorite things to do.”

“Used to?” I ask her. If she said it was her favorite thing, then why doesn’t she have it anymore? I’m curious, and invested now. The photos she took of the boys for Josie were stunning. I have one of them as my lock screen right now.

“Yeah. It broke when I was moving out of my last place.” She chews her bottom lip between her teeth, and looks up at me. “Money’s been tight so I just haven’t got around to replacing it yet.” With a shrug of her shoulders she tries to brush it off.

I can’t help but feel that there is more to the story, but I don’t push.

We sit in a comfortable silence together, I get the coffee cups rinsed and put into the dishwasher and Evie takes out some frozen meat to defrost for supper. We work in tandem getting a small breakfast put together as we wait for Josie and Hayes to join us.

It’s weird in a sense that it’s not. Where Evie’s presence in our life doesn’t feel like an extra person who’s helping out or our employee. She feels like a piece that could easily fit into our lives.

Maybe even make it better.
