Chapter 26

Chapter Twenty Six

Evie

Seven Month Postpartum

The familiar BBN$ song blares in my little space as I am pulling a bralette over my head. Quickly, I pull the bralette in place and use my hands to get the ladies just right while making my way to the bed, where I am fairly positive I threw my phone before I started to get dressed.

The music stops, “Shit.” Now I won’t be able to pinpoint exactly where in the covers my phone is.

Grumbling, I begin to feel around the bed, grabbing the hem of the comforter and pulling it back.

Then in slow motion, my brain registers the weight on the bedding, but it’s too late.

Watching my phone get catapulted a couple feet and it lands face down onto the bedroom floor.

“Fuck a duck. This is just my luck.” grumbling every possible curse word under my breath, closing my eyes as I grasp my phone and bring it to my chest. Taking a deep breath, I open my eyes and pull my phone away from my body. Anticipating the worst.

“Oh thank fuck.” I breathe out as I look at my screen, free of any cracks or damage. A new phone is not in my budget right now, and I plan to ride this old android phone until it’s so ancient that even the cavemen would say that it’s old.

My screen lights up again, and the music starts as Harper’s name flashes on the display. Quickly, I accept the call and put her on speaker.

“Hey babes–” I don’t get much further than that when Harper interrupts me.

“Happy Birthday bitch!” She screams through the phone. A cackle leaves my body as Harper proceeds to horribly sing happy birthday.

Once she’s done, I shake my head, a smile permanently plastered on my face. I love this girl so much. I know I tell her that she’d crash and burn if I wasn’t a part of her life, but in all reality I don’t know how I would have been able to move forward without her in my life.

If I didn’t have Harper in my life, I don’t even want to think about how I would have handled everything that happened a couple years ago when things ended with Markus and I.

Shaking my head, I grab that thought and slam it back in the chest I usually have it locked in.

Securing it with more locks and throwing it back into the very dark and unused spot in my mind.

“Thanks babes, I appreciate you.” I tell her, grabbing a cream colored blouse to throw over my bralette. “Are you coming to the greenhouse with us this morning? Josie said she was going to message you.”

Feet sliding into my sandals, I secure my phone between my cheek and shoulder as I step out of the loft and lock the door before marching down the stairs.

“Of course, Xavier is giving everyone their breakfast and then we’re heading over. I’m just throwing the ball for Winnie so he can burn some energy.” As if on cue, I hear the bark in the background of my friend's American bulldog telling her to throw the ball.

“Yay!” I squeal. “Then we can head out after to Bearclaw for tacos and margaritas!”

“I’m going to probably regret margaritas… but I convinced Xavier to drop us off and pick us up after so we don’t have to worry about ordering a ride share, or one of us not drinking.” Harper tells me.

“I bet you convinced him so good, all his toes were curling.” I tease her, and when she snorts at my response I know I got her. I laugh out loud as I walk through the main door of the Montgomery’s.

“You’re too much, but I love it.” Harper giggles, followed by another bark. “Okay, I will meet you guys there. Love you!”

“Love you too babes, see you.” I end the call and place my phone in the back pocket of my jean shorts.

Everyone’s in the kitchen when I walk in.

Hayes in his high chair, oatmeal in a bowl and he’s got a spoon in his mouth.

Shiloh has one hand on his spoon as he shovels his own oatmeal in his mouth, while his other hand has a marker, forehead furrowed in concentration as he colors whatever picture in front of him.

Josie sits at the table with the boys, she’s making chewing motions to Hayes as he tries to mimic but realistically he’s just making a mess.

Which is okay, he’s only seven months old and we just started to introduce solids with the baby led weaning method.

When Josie told me that’s how she wanted to introduce foods, I spent that night looking up everything I could find on the subject.

I joined groups on social media, and scrolled through there alone for an hour.

They had so much information readily available.

I haven’t told Josie or Monty this yet, but I bought a cookbook specifically for Hayes.

It won’t be here until later this week, but I can’t wait to try new foods with him during the days.

“Good Morning!” I sing-song as I head toward the coffee machine. Monty is at the sink cleaning the pot that was used to make the oatmeal. I slide up next to him and may rub myself against him as I grab a coffee up.

His deep chocolate eyes connect with mine, and electricity sparks across my body as I watch him take me in. His pupils dilate with hunger as I walk backward away from him with an innocent smile on my face.

“Good morning little minx.” He says low enough for only me to hear, which just makes my smile wider. “The coffee just finished so it’s fresh.” He says a bit louder, rinsing off the pot and placing it in the dish rack.

“Perfect, thank you.” I tell him, turning around I fill my coffee three quarters of the way. Leaving enough room for me to add my sugar and creamer.

I hear the fridge open and close behind me, then there’s a presence behind me.

“Okay Shiloh, come with momma to brush your teeth and help me get Hayes cleaned up and changed.” Josie says, I hear the scrape of her chair as she stands up, I listen as they exit down the hallway. “Happy birthday Evie.” Josie hollers behind her, “we’re happy we get to spend it with you.”

My cheeks flush, “Thank you, I’m excited for today.

” I shout back to her. When their footsteps are far enough away, hands grasp my hips and I’m spun around and pinned to the counter.

A gasp leaves me as I look up at the man before me.

His dirty blond hair is tossed up into the most deliciously sexy man bun.

His hair has been growing out since Hayes was born, and I swear my panties were toast when I first saw him toss his hair up.

His hand creeps up my neck and his fingers tangle through my hair before he tugs it, causing my head to tilt back more.

Leaning down his lips hover over mine, so close, yet so far.

I can’t close the distance with the grip he has in my hair.

A whimper begins to climb up my throat, as my hands trail up his front, before wrapping them around his neck, trying to pull him closer.

A deep chuckle rumbles through him and he shakes his head. “So impatient.” He quickly presses his lips to mine before continuing, “Happy birthday Evie”

A sigh leaves me, “Thank you, and for coming with me to the greenhouse this morning.” The need to thank them again for spending the day with me.

I used to spend birthdays alone, with no one to celebrate with.

I had pulled away from Harper at one point, and it’s not that she didn’t try.

She called me multiple times, but I just ended up shutting my phone off and curled up with my kindle until it was time to make something to eat for Markus and I.

A firm squeeze on my hip brings me back to the present. To the very yummy man in front of me, and smile, his hand loosens in my hair.

“Where’d you go just now?” He asks, a hint of concern playing on his face.

“Oh, it’s nothing.” Pushing up on my toes I bring our mouths together again, grazing my tongue along the seam of his lips.

Causing a quiet groan to leave him as he opens up and we fight for dominance, that I quickly give up when he pulls me into him before leaning down and lifting me onto the counter.

My arms tighten around his neck as he places me down, our tongues tangling together.

My body heats, as I pulse between my legs.

Begrudgingly, Monty pulls away, running a hand down his face. “Fuck.” He says, and when I look down I see the very thick outline of Monty’s cock pressing against his sweats.

We all haven’t had much time alone together. It’s hard when you have two littles around, and usually by the end of the day we’re all exhausted and just end up enjoying each other's presence. Watching movies, and snuggling on the couch.

We take turns distracting the kids for short periods of time to allow for some sneak away time, but it never goes past some heavy petting.

Like how Josie did just now, the other day Monty came home early and took the boys for a walk and I surprised Josie after her last appointment.

Backing her up to the couch and climbing into her lap, kissing and grinding on top of her, I left there with a wet spot in my leggings.

We haven’t had the alone time to do anything more than that unfortunately, but I’m hoping that changes soon.

I hop off the counter and continue to mix my coffee with the creamer Monty brought me. When my coffee is the color of toffee and I add my sugar I turn around as I mix it.

My eyes zero in on a gift bag that’s sitting on the island and I raise my brow to Monty in question.

He shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck, “We got you a little something. Wait until Josie gets back before you open it though please.”

“Yeah of course.” I give him a smile, but my mind begins to go a million miles a minute. This is too much, they didn’t have to get me anything. “You guys spending the day with me is enough, you know. I don’t need anything.”

Before Monty can say anything else, Josie is entering the kitchen again with Hayes on her hip and Shiloh racing around her.

“Happy Birthday Evie!” he shouts as he launches himself at me. I have just enough time to put my coffee cup down before readying myself to catch him.
