Epilogue
The past four months have been a dizzying experience due to the number of things that have happened in my life. Discounting the whole mess with Cherisse, Baker, and Cass, Mayhem’s and my lives hadn’t been dull or slow.
A month after our nighttime visit to Cass, Mayhem got down on one knee, in front of the entire club, and proposed.
Of course, I said yes, then burst into tears as he slid my gorgeous engagement ring on my finger.
We’d been congratulated, hugged, and kissed for an hour, and I showed off the ring with pride.
There had been no contact from Cass, and I heard through Spawn and his online grapevine that he’d put in his papers to retire. If he thought that would get him out from under the watchful eyes of the Iron Punishers, he was mistaken.
As for Baker, his disappearance was treated as a missing person, though the police were more than half convinced he’d left the country and had been murdered over where he’d been chasing a trail to his brother’s last mission.
It was a place where people easily disappeared and their bodies were never found.
There was no whisper of suspicion of foul play here in the States.
Work has been a dream come true for me. I had flown numerous flights for the Dark Patriots, but they stuck to their promise that I wasn’t gone for days on end.
The couple of times I had an extended trip, we knew of it in advance, and Mayhem came along.
We spent time exploring wherever we went, while waiting for the return trip.
The club was also undergoing some changes.
Ratchet and Gravel, out of the blue, announced they were tired of living in the clubhouse and were building their houses on the compound.
Plans were found, and work commenced quickly.
They would be done by the time Troian and Lash’s baby was due.
They were receiving advice from all of us on what to include and how to decorate.
The poor guys would tell us to shut up one day, but until they did, we kept it up.
As I’d gotten to know the club, I met others they associated with outside of it.
The kids at the Fortress of Bravery were one such group.
I enjoyed my time there. Everyone in the club took turns volunteering.
And it was with pride on her face that Lark watched as the club introduced one of the kids from Fortress.
They’d known him for four years. He was young, only twenty years old, but he’d finished high school and attended junior college.
Those were things he promised the club to do.
With them complete, he was now permitted to prospect.
The joy and disbelief on his face when it was announced at a celebration were heartwarming to see.
When I heard his history, I knew he was a classic example of someone Lark was fighting to save.
The slamming of the door between the house and the garage startled me.
“Babe, I’m home,” Mayhem called out.
I rushed to meet him partway. I jumped into his waiting arms, and he swung me around as we kissed. When we grew dizzy, or I did, he stopped moving and slowly ended the kiss. Raising his head, Mayhem gave me such a loving, tender look.
“I missed you, Fury. I love you more than I did this morning,” he said.
“I missed you, too, Jamie. And I love you twice as much as you love me now,” I teased.
It elicited the reaction I wanted from him. He growled, causing a shiver of desire to shoot through my body. “I think the way to settle who loves who more is to go to the bedroom. I’ll show you and you can show me,” he said, smirking.
“I thought you’d never ask,” I moaned.
I shrieked as he swung me off my feet and put me over his shoulder.
As he walked through the house, Mayhem warmed me up.
Each slap to my ass heated my body and made my pussy grow wetter.
God, I was forever thankful I’d been at Eden the night Haven needed help, and then again at her studio.
If I hadn’t, I would’ve never met Mayhem, found this life, or become Mayhem’s Fury.
