I’ve represented his disfluency using repeated sounds, as well as breath-elongation techniques (you’ll see a mid-word em dash, like ca—t, in places where he’s working through a block).

These choices reflect real-world methods of navigating speech interruptions with patience and persistence.

Sev, our prickly chef, is Deaf-slash-Hard of Hearing after a bout of meningitis. He’s working with a faulty cochlear implant, and it’s left him a bit dickish—mostly because he hasn’t connected with the Deaf community, nor has he really learned to communicate without tech.
