Chapter 40 Lily
Lily
I’m laying practically on top of Parker’s body because I feel like I can’t be close enough to him.
I would crawl inside his skin if I could.
Does that make me some sort of psychopath?
Probably, but I don’t care. I can’t believe I ever thought I could hate him.
In no world could I truly hate him. I think back to what my mom said before I left, and what I told Parker.
“If we’re meant to be, then we will.”
I rest my chin on his chest, a smile on my face. His eyes are closed, but I know he’s not sleeping. He must feel my eyes on him because they open to look at me, and his lips spread into his own smile.
“Guess it’s safe to say we really are meant to be, huh?” I tell him.
“I never doubted that for a second.”
I look to the side, breaking our eye contact. “Me either.”
Parker chuckles. “It’s okay if you weren’t sure. I was sure for the both of us.”
Dropping my head down onto his chest, I breathe in his scent, the familiar body wash and mix of sweat and sex has me practically feral for him again. My voice is muffled by his skin. “Why do you always say the right thing?”
“You know more than anyone that I don’t at all,” he disagrees.
I turn my head on his chest, my ear pressing against his pec so I can hear the steady thump of his heartbeat. “You do to me,” I murmur. Then, I remember something else and pop my head up. “Wait, you said you got me a birthday present.”
Parker chuckles. “Were the orgasms not enough of a present?”
“Nope, I get those whether it’s my birthday or not.”
“You’ll get those every day for the rest of our lives,” he teases, dropping a quick kiss to my lips before moving off the bed, despite my weak protests.
I watch his sculpted, naked form get out of bed, and my mouth waters at how perfect he is.
He’s toned and tan, every inch of him looks like he was made just for me and my greedy eyes.
His dick is only half hard and his size is still notable.
His chestnut brown hair is disheveled from my hands, and I want to mess it up even more.
His mustache that only adds to my pleasure when he’s eating me out brings back the vivid memories from just like an hour ago.
The spot between my legs throbs both in need and soreness.
Though, I’m willing to push through being sore and jump on him right now.
Parker grabs something from his dresser, turning around with a box in his hand, and my heart speeds up in anticipation for what it could be. He comes back to bed, settling under the blankets and pulling me back onto his chest.
He holds the box in front of us, and I reach out to touch the black velvet. Before opening it, I look up at his face. “For the record it’s not my birthday anymore, so you were late with it.”
He scoffs out a laugh. “Just open it.”
I’m smiling as I open to reveal a gold bracelet inside with a metal bar with something engraved on it. I bring it closer so I can read what it says in the low lighting of his room.
I’ll love you forever.
“Flip it over,” he whispers.
I take it out to see the other side where a P I hate how he treated me and I hate how long it took me to get back to Parker.
I use all of those feelings of regret and anger for the time I’ve missed to face one of my biggest fears.
Ginormous bugs. I can do this. I don’t need to be saved from this situation, or any other one I find myself in.
I’m a strong independent woman, and the only reason I need a man is because I want to have him there.
I can do this.
I look around to see if there’s any sort of large stick like object I could use as a weapon, but all I see is my dad’s grilling tools. Something tells me he wouldn’t be too happy with me if I used one of those to murder a bug.
My shoes also don’t look like a great option either.
I learned throwing them doesn’t work so I would have to get really close.
I look around a bit more and finally see an old piece of wood resting off to the side.
Picking it up, I put it in the path of the beetle and pray to whatever being there may be in the universe this thing doesn’t choose to take this moment to attack me.
It climbs onto the wood, and I rush off to the side of the deck, dropping the wood onto the ground below. I throw my arms up in the air in victory. “I did it!” I call out to Tulips who looks up at me with her tongue hanging out, completely oblivious to the win I just had.
“See, I don’t need anyone!” I announce proudly.
Again, I hear Jerry Lee inside squawking. I can’t help but think he’s celebrating with me. He may not understand the significance of this moment, neither does Tulips, but I do. It may seem silly to most people, but this moment is for me. I know I can do anything, and don’t need a man.
But I want Parker, and I can’t wait to tell him about this. It may seem silly, but I know he’ll understand. He always understands everything with me, no matter how ridiculous it may seem.
Tulips and I go inside, and we aren’t alone for long because my mom comes home with Ethan who chooses to ignore greeting me and focuses completely on Tulips.
“I guess I’m chopped liver,” I tell my mom as Ethan drops onto the floor to hug Tulips tightly.
“Don’t take it personally.” My mom shrugs. “Especially when you have kids of your own, this is what every day is like.”
I gasp. “You could never be chopped liver to me, mom.”
She scoffs. “That’s a lie, but I appreciate it.”
“Lily worm! Bitch!” Jerry Lee barks.
“Did you just call me a bitch?” I gasp, turning around to face Jerry Lee.
“Probably,” Ethan says from the floor with my dog.
“Okay now I know I’m even less than chopped liver,” I huff.
“Ethan, that’s not nice,” my mom scolds, but I see her trying to hold back her laughter.
“Sorry,” he mumbles, back to focusing on playing on the floor with Tulips.
“That felt sincere,” I say sarcastically. “See if I let you come to the Amity Strawberry Festival with Parker and me.”
“Hey,” he looks at me, “Parker invited me, you can’t take it back.”
“Watch me,” I threaten with a smile.
“Oh stop, of course you’re going to go,” my mom tells Ethan gently. I’m standing behind her and shake my head at him mouthing, “No you’re not.”
“Lily, stop,” Mom scolds. I’ve always wondered if she has eyes in the back of her head like people say.
“I didn’t do anything,” I lie.
“Go get more sleep if you’re going to be rude.” She waves me off and my jaw drops while Ethan laughs loudly at my expense.
“You all are mean to me, wait until dad gets home, he’ll be on my side,” I announce proudly.
“There’s no sides.” Mom shakes her head. “You both are my children and I love you both equally.”
I give her a pointed look. “Right, well I’m going to shower and you both can think about the way you treat me.”
“We will definitely do that.” My mom’s sarcastic voice sounds a lot like mine.
Add in how much I love my family to how amazing my life has been. We’ve always been close, but now that I’m back to living here it feels better than ever. Even though I do want to find a place of my own sometime soon, I won’t be leaving Amity again. Amity is home.
